In 1984 the American media lost all credibility with me. I was a Major in the Army stationed at Hilden, West Germany working with WBK III. At the time President Reagan had decided to deploy Pershing Missiles to West Germany as a deterrent to Russia's deployment of SS-21s. There was an anti-American demonstration at the front gate of the kaserne I was staying at. I was 50 yards away watching from the balcony of my room. At the most there was 100-150 people. The polizei showed up read them the riot act, waited 5 minutes, and with much vigor forcibly removed them. Two days later, I fly into JFK and the American media was all about the anti-Reagan demonstration in Hilden, West Germany, where thousands upon thousands of demonstrators showed up! I was there, this was a deliberate lie! Why? The media hated President Reagan and tried to force him to change his decision. I was there!
Thank you, its really interesting and important to hear first hand stories, like yours. But scary to think how our media have been forcing there agenda and propaganda for so many years.
I dont like Reagan, but you have a good point.
The so called media did the same during the Iranian hostage situation in the 70s. I was acquainted with Col. Charles W Scott in the 1990s. He told me that after his release he watched American TV coverage of the crises that reportedly showed untold hundreds of demonstrators outside the embassy. He stated that the demonstrators on camera were the usual bunch that the Iranian government sent out everyday while a block away the city went about its normal business.
While deployed in Army a nice guy told me. There are basically two types of guys;
Nice guys, and guys that get the job done. The nice guys always criticize the guys getting the job done. It makes them feel better than the lazy spectator from the peanut gallery…

I like what Denzel Washington says (and I may be paraphrasing just a bit): "If you don't read the news, you're uninformed. If you do read the news, you're misinformed."
That was a Mark Twain quote that was paraphrased.
“If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you're mis-informed.”

I thought it was Lincoln Welder who coined that.
Try the Wall Street Journal. They will hammer both side when needed and deserved.
@richardmonson8657 can't tell if serious or satire.
"If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you DO read the newspaper, you're MISinformed." One of my favorite quotes.
While writing the quote above, I heard you say, "think for yourself." If people decided NOT to be spoon-fed the "information" they regurgitate, we would be in a completely different America. People are too lazy to even THINK FOR THEMSELVES. HUGE problem...

Many years ago, Richard Salant, then recently retired president of CBS News was addressing a graduating college class said (quote) " OUR JOB IS NOT TO REPORT THE NEWS, IT IS TO MANIPULATE PUBLIC OPINION !
The news media has certainly succeeded in that!
The “news media” is following in the footsteps of Hearst…. Yellow Journalism at it’s “best”😡😡😡
Once the corporations took over what do you believe that we have?
Yes, there has always been yellow journalism in the US, but since the corpos have eaten up all the news outlets we have a very narrow view of news. Chuck Todd and Kristin Welker come to mind of that "left wing" journalism ( see LOL) as they throw softball questions and get pablum answers. Forget FOX. they paid out nearly a billion and they still spew right wing garbage.
This is where we get into trouble today, everything is an opinion and everyone has an opinion, instead of researching and finding and reporting the truth, news and social media report opinions and we citizens only require news of opinions and not the real truth anymore, if we want to find the truth about almost anything follow the money trail.
Research and hard work as journalists once used to do, took time to get to the truth, but now we have instant reporting within minutes of happenings, and this is where we lose the truth.
Have you also noticed where everything and anything is Breaking News! it is all done for ratings on national state local and social media news levels. No one wants the truth or requires or demands the truth, lies and brainwashing has taken the place of truth, now opinions, tribalism, division, fear, chaos, and confusion is what we have and hold dearly too.
Trust No One and Question Everything
But that's just my opinion I could be wrong.
And when you're colluding with government, you should be dismantled.
I don't believe that quote. I searched for those exact words in quotation marks (you DO say it is a quote) using two different search engines, and got absolutely nothing. I searched about Richard Salant and by ALL accounts he was an advocate for truthfulness and integrity in journalism. Under what POSSIBLE scenario is a media person (however biased) going to make such a pronouncement in public? You must think we are all gullible as heck... are you a Russian disinformation troll yourself? 172 people did ZERO critical thinking on this comment!
I'm a 75-year-old conservative who lives in Idaho. I'm amazed at how well-informed many of our younger people are. As for America's future (or at least Idaho's), I am impressed and encouraged by what I see in them.

Sad but true, that "news" has become 90% opinion and 10% information. I was a newspaper man back in the day (25 years ago), and I can honestly say that if I had written the kind of junk I see and hear everywhere nowadays, my editors would have deleted half of my stories and yelled "Do it over, and this time leave your opinions out of it!"
Thanks Hickok.
Yea, they show a 5 second clip of something and spend the next 10 minutes telling you how you should feel about the topic over top a provocative headline and then have an "expert" on the show who agrees with their view point. You won't find much civil debate on cable TV nowadays. I think that's why podcasts are becoming more popular. There's time to sit down and have a back and forth discussion.

@@Curtis_Brusque All the sources, but Fox with a grain of salt. There are other far right sources other than Fox, but not really mainstream. (I wouldn’t call Newsmax mainstream). Seems like most people I know either watch Fox exclusively, or not at all. I would suggest to any Fox viewer to simply take a break from it for a month, watch other sources, then go back to Fox after a month. You’ll notice there’s what Fox says, and what everyone else says. It’s good to understand that about Fox, regardless of what you choose to believe in the end.
Can we trust the news? Absolutely not
Sure you can... you can trust them to tell you what they want you to think.
There are lots of trustworthy news sources out there. Generally people who are saying that news sources are programming you ect,,, are heading to areas of information that support their views, end up in tribal echo chambers of nonsense, which leads to a very vulnerable person lighting himself on fire outside a Trump trial... Go to Reuters for a start. Stop doing your 'research' and start putting some trust in a source that isn't involved in selling the cult of personality. There are trusted journalists out there working for trusted organizations.
Omission of facts here on local news skews a story. My state went Constitutional carry. Local news talking heads made like all other laws were negated. Then my city made "safe no carry" zones.
Hell no!

This is the way.
Voting relies on an informed public. Control the narrative control the vote.
Thomas Jefferson famously wrote, “a well-informed electorate is a prerequisite to democracy.”
The sad part is there are MANY who have a bit of college and think they're smarter than everyone else. I'll tell you my family vote Democrat and have ALWAYS voted Democrat and always will vote Democrat. My oldest sister studied "Journalism" in the 80s at UT Austin. We were in a discussion regarding the 2020 election and she told me Trump was a racist and liar and that's why she was voting for Joe Biden. I told her I'd put together a referenced paper with videos and articles of Joe Biden being blatantly racist, lying and getting caught, plagiarizing, repeating the very same thing over and over, as well as the policies that led to bad outcomes and disasters. I also included the senile and disgusting things he's been caught saying on camera, sexual assaults and inappropriate behavior with kids, as well as the MULTITUDE of scandalous kickbacks and quid pro quos. It was around 13 pages I sent to her to read, and her request was that if she read it, I'd read what she show me in return. Needless to say, I've never heard back from her and she'll be voting Democrat yet again. THIS is the mindset of the "educate" Democrat voter.
Thanks Hickok, it’s always reassuring to hear it from a voice with reason.
I could not agree more. Thank you Hickok, keep telling it like you see it.
You really earned my respect with this video.

I cannot watch CNN or any of the Progressive "news" channels. Every day they preach that Trump is the devil and guilty of everything. For three years, Adam Schiff told us that he had a witness who would testify very soon as to Trumps illegal transactions. Mr. Schiff should be in prison.
They've taught hate, which skews ones ability to reason.
I remember a quote from Mark Twain (I think) "If you read the paper you are misinformed, and if you don't read the paper, you are un-informed!". I think it is the same with TV.
My parents told me,” don’t believe anything you hear and only half of what you see”.
I’m 73 yrs of age, I heard that from my elders when I was a young teenager. If you follow that advice makes you a very smart person.
Marvin Gaye told me the same thing. Well actually I heard it through the grape vine.
I heard it as "don't believe anything you hear and only have of what you read" I need to see it to believe it. :)
Lou Reed told me that.
Believe what you see, don’t believe what you hear.
Love this! Thank you sir! The last few years I’ve seen people of all walks of life, and the big one… people from both parties, becoming more aware. The division HAS got to stop. You have wackos on both sides , that want us all divided. Remember, UNITED we stand. Divided… we fall. This made my day . Thanks again!
That's a great way of thinking. In the Olden Days we called that,"Common Sense"
Common sense is a dangerous thing. Once your opinion is biased and everyone has a common reaction you can easily disregard the truth.
@@cristianocapasso5870 I think you are confusing common sense with common opinion / popular opinion / group-think. Those things have nothing to do with common sense, in the way the poster meant it. Further, popular opinion or group-think often go against the basic tenets of common sense.
With all due respect I believe that common sense it’s long lost and gone. That ones we still believe in it we are blessed
@@jimmyz2098 I am not confusing it at all. In fact appeal to common sense is a fundamental logical fallacy in rhetorics. The concept of common sense feels good because of implicit group acceptance but it does not make anything true.
Common Sense is very subjective and not a reliable way to determine fact from fiction. In many cases Common Sense can be obviously factual, such as 2+2=4 or water is wet. Where Common Sense fails us is when we accept something as fact because it FEELS true, such as from simple observation the sun appears to orbit the earth.

Calm down, mr. Adoring fan
That's real good advice right there: Make your own reading list, do your own reading. Read through, analyze, criticize, synthesize the information. Look at facts, what's actually going on rather than words. Always ask: Who might possibly benefit from this? Are the parties involved in any event in conflicts of interest? Have I exhausted the scientific methods of ascertaining? Are there any flaws in the premises from which my conclusions are drawn?

I learned back in 1992 that CNN was full of it. I was deployed to a location and upon return told that I was never there. A day later I saw on CNN what was going on. Since I was there, I knew they were full of it, but I couldn't say anything. Social Media didn't exist back then and the press wasn't really allowed on the battlefield either. All these years later, you can't run a redlight without being caught on a camera. I consider myself a constitutionalist, because I believe in what this country was founded upon. Not all of my children agree with me, and we discuss it every now and then. One son lives in the big city and thinks like big city folk do. One son lives in the dessert and thinks like hard working oil field folk do and the third son lives in a camper in our back yard and don't really know what to think. I also have a couple daughters who think completely different than the rest of us.... I take all of their views into consideration but still I have my own that I stand by. It's not always easy because some of them are far left, some far right and it's not always the same. I'm proud that they made up their own minds, whether I agree with them or not.
I have a cousin in a major NE city who believes the BS CNN put out.

I'm old enough to remember newscasters like Chet Huntley & David Brinkley, Eric Sevareid, and Walter Cronkite. They hosted the evening news on the big three networks long ago. They would tell the news, as Cronkite would famously say in his daily outro, "And that's the way it is." operative word, "IS". These shows had an editorial portion where they would give their views on perhaps one item in the news of the day, but it was tempered with objectivity. Today it is hard to find ANY news outlet which is objective. I seriously do not think this was the intention of the Founding Fathers when they enshrined _Freedom Of The Press_ in the American Constitution. Freedom Of The Press was intended for precisely the OPPOSITE reason - so people would know the FACTS and from these facts be able to and allowed to form their own conclusions.
YOU are So right, I wish people would do their own research and THINK for Themselves
Our founding fathers were amazingly brilliant, to be able to foresee problems that could happen in the future and write the bill of rights that we the people can use to protect ourselfs.

“What does not kill me makes me stronger,” Nietzsche wrote. But hurt doesn’t make us stronger. Hurt just makes us hurt. The whole place feels like a grave. A cathedral for the dead and the fallen. The ground is littered with discarded books and magazines. A broken crack pipe has been left on a cinder block. There is a garden chair, and overturned crates and buckets. A mangled teddy bear. Death everywhere. If they were not emotionally connected to the person who has died, the body is taken outside and that night it disappears when the truly desperate come and make food of it. We have no place left to bury or hide our dead. Some have begun to pack the orifices of the bodies with poisons even household cleaning chemicals and posting warning signs on the bodies, this is not a deterrent and many get sick and perish because they ignore the warning. In fact, few now spend the effort to cook the meat and simply gorge themselves on the raw flesh. It is now a rare sight to see even a deteriorated corpse unmolested in some way, worse are the sick that have not the strength or means to fend off the starving. No one moans or cries like in the beginning and every face has a vacant empty inhuman look, the eyes desperately searching wildly. Today I saw a woman eating small portions of flesh she had hidden in a child’s pencil case, it was decorated with figures from the cartoon called Toy Story, and when I saw it something in me broke, I am struggling to maintain a positive attitude and ashamed of my weakness and lack of coping skills. On a positive note, I long ago established a thriving cockroach farm in an 80-gallon fish tank stuffed with empty cardboard and egg cartons and have been very disciplined with keeping my meals small so as not to generate suspicion while maintaining my protein intake enough to function. Cockroaches are omnivores, which means they eat both plants and animals, so my day is filled looking for weeds and other insects to keep the farm going and maintain a sense of purpose. Kuru Is a Neurodegenerative Disorder That Is Passed on Through Cannibalism and many now show the symptoms of muscle twitching, loss of coordination. Other symptoms include difficulty walking, involuntary movements, behavioral and mood changes, dementia, and fatal insomnia. You can contract the disease by eating human flesh or coming into contact with open wounds or sores of someone living with it. The only hope now is for the dark silence of death itself.
The woods are starting to green-up a little in Tennessee...
you are a very smart and down to earth man....fantastic channel!
As a child my stepmom told me not to believe anything that you hear and only half of what you see at that point in my life I thought she was crazy now that I am older I think she was correct
Here here, I'm glad You're willing to speak out And agree with you 100% , Buy the way Im Moderate Progressive But I love my guns too.
Hick, truer words were never spoken. When editors were removed from the process, and anyone could post anything objective journalism left the building. Throw in the 24 hr cycle and finding NEWS became almost most impossible.
Amen. Thank you for being a voice of reason in a sea of chaos.
No we cannot but we can trust Hickok.
Down to earth common sense talk is really hard to find. I enjoyed this video very much.
Anyone else admiring the rifle he's holding? What a beauty.
I stopped watching the news a long time ago. So many allegations without facts and/or proof. Add on to that people will lie and manipulate for their own benefit and agenda, no thank you. In my opinion it is no different than religion and politics trying to get believers and supporters with their rhetoric. I am a firm believer that actions speak louder then words and seeing is believing.
Based upon my own experience, when I was getting divorced, people will believe anything as long as it seems believable no matter if there is fact or proof. In my case, false allegations of abuse and lies led me to be criminally charged for something I never did. Just goes to show how powerful the rhetoric can be. I know this is justice system and not news but in my opinion it matters not the system.
Deep thoughts with Hickok45,, I dig it! I've also always chosen policy over somebody's personality to be honest.🎯
Well said
Spot on. It is so important to think for yourself. Life has been a lot easier for a lot of people in recent times. They've had the 'luxury' of being able to relax and think about appealing philosophies rather than having to work hard and intelligently in nearly every waking moment to ensure that they had enough stores for the winter etc. ...... I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are many people who are removed from the practical realities of life nowadays. Some of these folks get into influential positions where they think they are doing the right thing taking from the working/producing class and giving to people, organisations and projects that many of the producing class would rather not support.
Over the last few years I've come to see that the mainstream media is a tool used by the ruling class in an effort to control public opinion. I have lost a lot of respect for the traditional media, some in the medical profession, certain big businesses and many in the 'public service'.
I wish we had a constitution like your one.
Think for yourself. Be guided by the 'Golden Rule'. Know what is right and speak up when appropriate. Best wishes from New Zealand.
as a liberal gun owner, this was refreshing to hear. thanks Hickok45
You said a mouthful, thank you.
