About the aesthetic of the Old Republic, it's important to remember that Star Wars in science fantasy. In a medieval fantasy like Middle-earth, the technology and overall look doesn't progress over thousands of year (and no one expects it to). The same should apply to a science fantasy. We can assume lightsabers, droids, and FTL travel was invented at some point but I doubt it will ever be put to film.
I think there needs to be a balance. While not much, there is measurable tech progression from the Prequels to the Sequels, seen in the escalating superweapons and new technologies like Interdiction and Hyperspace Tracking. When they go back to the Old Republic era, I hope it is actually functionally different enough affect things, but not enough that it totally derails the Star Wars look and feel. For example, it would be cool if only very large ships could jump to hyperspace (not fighters), and possibly even they could have large structures reminiscent of the Prequel-era booster rings around them: if needed for the plot, the "Millenium Falcon" equivalent ship could be the first one with an internal hyperdrive or something. Maybe blasters have to be reloaded revolver-style. I'm not sure of the specifics, but I would really like to see some tech function changes.
Also, this actually mirrors real human history. If you look at the way people lived in the Middle Ages and compare it to the 18th century or even the 19th century, it really isn’t all that different. It isn’t until we come to the twentieth century that we have massive change with telecommunications, aircraft, and the internal combustion engine.
Cameron Leach I agree. Me personally, I see the StarWars galaxy as a civilization that pretty much stalled out thousands of years ago. Yes time has passed, and yes there's room for changes in fashion and social reform, but the tech it's self? Once you've learned how to manipulate gravity, have a well developed medical field, and a reliably powerful FTL drive that is cost-effective enough for anyone to own one, then that particular type of civilization can't really advance beyond refinement. And even refinement can only go so far.
I really appreciate how you define your positions in this video. I don't have to necessarily agree with all of your positions to respect your perspective.
There were Snowtroopers in ESB, then Biker Scouts in ROTJ. People forget that every one introduces new vehicles and variants, and it's not too difficult to invent reasons why we hadn't seen them before. The Shoretroopers are still my favourite new design in the whole of the latter releases.
What is the origin of the Mandalorian skull we see on their flags? How come they use it as the design for their flags? Was it an ancient creature from Mandalore?
For me, Legends is comprised of so much Star Wars lore a lot of it can be considered one’s own headcanon until proven otherwise. Take the Darth Bane trilogy for example. Bane himself is canon, and his creation of the Rule of Two is canon as well. So having Darth Zannah as his apprentice, the finding of Revan’s holocron, and the annihilation of the Brotherhood of Darkness is valid to me until a new story comes out that invalidates it.
John McKenna that’s how I do it too. I accept the new canon, but until something in it contradicts legends, those parts of legends are gonna be canon. Example. The Darth Plagious book is canon IMO until something in new canon contradicts it
I understand the frustration people have with the Legends situation. I was one of those people back in 2014. I did a 180 since then. Still, there is a place in my heart that aches for Kyle Katarn LOL...
CharlieFoxtrot I'm more of a new Canon guy than EU. However I have the EU on audiobook. Which one is it that features Kyle Katarn ? I know that I could just search for it, but I like SW conversations. Hence my presence here, obviously.
I am totally and honestly impressed with your analysis of why some people are having such a hard time accepting new canon. I'm old, I've seen them all, read the books for a time, but never considered the generation that MOSTLY had the books to draw on. The James Bond connection was perfect too (Yay Roger Moore!). Very well done, something to think on for sure.
I agree. Insight like that is why I'm subscribed. It seems to me that one of the reasons the fanbase is so conflicted is because people don't want to accept that all of those different "generations" matter equally. Ironically, I think that's the beauty of the Legends split. All of those stories are now enshrined and protected, and will never be changed or overwritten by the new canon (which was happening in the Clone Wars era before the split).
I'd be EXTREMELY surprised if they made 3 Solo movies And y'all are being unreasonable. If the movies explained every little detail it would be 3 hours long and y'all would complain about too much exposition. No Star Wars movie has done that. Not even the OG trilogy
Eric Santucci I can agree with what youre saying to a degree. The example you gave is a great one. But im speaking on everything I've seen fans say should have been explained in the films. Snokes Background Reys Background Where the Knights of Ren are Whos DJ Hyperspace Kamikaze mechanics The bombers propelling bombs downward aka "Dropping Bombs" hyperspace tracking Who is the 1st Jedi how can force ghost use the force (haha this one cracks me up) etc and etc....i can keep going but you see my point. Most this stuff shouldn't have to be added and some of it is even common sense. The fact ppl are saying these should have been added shows me how nitpicky and bias the fandom is. I didnt even like TLJ much and i can see the hypocrisy in the fandom
Eric Santucci I agree she is a blank slate and it can be a little frustrating... but i'll say this, Im a HUGE one piece fan (obvious from my pages content) and one of the biggest things i love about it is the build-up to everything. The mangaka rarely gives you details up front. You usually have to wait dozens of chapters to get answers. It builds suspense. I said all that to say. I think the way they're handling Rey is pretty good. If youve read anything in Legends, you'll see her power growth isnt something new. Legends is full of powerful force users who had very little training at one point but still displayed tremendous strength. (ex: Bane, Zannah, Anakin, Viciate, etc) plus It's a trilogy. I'm absolutely ok with waiting til the 3rd movie for the big reveal. NOW if the 3rd movie comes and they still leave the big questions Unanswered, then I'll have a problem.
Alex, you're absolutely right about how we all like the Star Wars we grew up with the best. I was born in '98, so I grew up as the prequels were coming out. I grew up watching all 6 movies, and as a kid I didn't even realize the distinction between Original and Prequel. They were all Star Wars to me, and I loved them all the same. I still hold that belief today.
Guys, guys. A New Hope is Rogue Two. Another time rebels infiltrate an imperial station and steal a prisoner and another time the rebels are on a sand planet and another time Dr. Evazan is a jerk...
Andrew Waples 1) True. 2) The way you want. For years, many people considered it cannon yet G.Lucas didn't. Today, there's people who deny the sequels' title of canon. You go the way you want to enjoy star wars.
Andrew Waples In my view, there is a faction of Star Wars fans who just like to complain that whatever Lucasfilm is doing, they should be doing something else instead. If Lucasfilm suddenly decided to start brining a bunch of Legends stuff into Canon, the same people who were calling for more Legends stuff would be like, "Why are you giving us all that old Legends stuff? Give us new stuff! God, my childhood is ruined!!!"
Andrew Waples Lucas always saw legends as Canon, but he never saw it as HIS canon. It was a separate Canon. Star wars/Pokemon/Dragonball and so forth have separate canons. Legends is over but it's still canon, just not Disney canon. Or Lucas Canon.
Lucas never considered Legends as canon because he didn't want to have to write around it. He still DID in some respects, and he took elements from Legends and used them in the Prequels or the Special Editions, but he always saw it as parallel universes purely to simplify things and because he knew there would be people who didn't read the books or comics. As for the attachment, well, you always remember your first love. While I saw the movies first, my first Star Wars book was Heir to the Empire, and I'll always hold that in a special place higher than canon, despite how much I prefer canon over Legends (for pure quality reasons; there was much more crap in Legends and canon has been more consistent). Another reason would be that Legends was used to fill in holes in the movies that either came about because of deleted scenes or just because George Lucas thought he said A when he really said B in certain scenes, so Legends existed to explain what Lucas didn't. Despite his feelings on the matter, there were some parts of Legends that Lucas had direct involvement in. He gave specific instructions for the writers of The Force Unleashed, and he detailed what happened right before Revenge of the Sith to James Luceno (Labyrinth of Evil) and Gendy Tartakovsky (2D Clone Wars), and he loved Shadows of the Empire a lot.'' TL,DR: There was a lot of love for Legends and Lucas did still have a hand in it despite not considering it canon to his movies.
Lucas himself didn't really care about legends to much he helped out definitely but kinda let creators do their own thing basically it was "go do your own things guys I'll be here if you need advice or if I need you for something"
The globes on Star Destroyers as sensor domes or shield generators? Former is what was obviously originally intended, if you look at real world analogues. The Executor's shields failed due to the bombardment Ackbar ordered, not the globe being destroyed. Thoughts on the misnomer possibly being canon according to some reference books?
I love that you embraced RLM haha. Love both channels. Both have their roles. You’re the best news and updates channel and you explain your opinions really well
for the jetlag question, in the novelization of the first season of rebels, Ezra experiences a bit of that the first time he hyperspace travels on the ghost. also, hera mentions that if you jump too many times within a short period of time, then you do start to get a bit sick
I think what you've said here about specialised Stormtroopers applies just as much to the Porgs. So what if they were only made to sell toys? Just pipe down and pet the thing.
. . . you really think Star Wars fans would've have just ignored the fact that a very distinct earth bird was all over the place? I mean sure, Star Wars has had ducks in it and its most famous ship is named after a Falcon, but it would be a little weird and random to have Luke on a planet full of puffins.
starwarsnerd100 not that weird, most people wouldn't even think about it. But star wars "fans" would've found a way to complain no matter what happened.
For the jet lag question, the TLJ novelization does mention that making planetfall disorients Leia. She finds it weird that a distant object (the planet viewed from space) suddenly becomes her entire surroundings. Not quite hyperspace jetlag, but it's still an interesting view on casual space travel.
Do you think Star Wars Resistance will be the last animation for star wars that Dave Filoni does? After that he will then move onto Live action? If so, what are the chances of his first live action show/movie involving Ahsoka and what happened to Ezra and Thrawn etc?
I do like certain aspects of the new Canon such as how they explain away where were the temple guards during order 66, thanks to the Vader Comics we found out they abandon their post the night Order 66 was issued and swore fealty to Palpatine. because had the Guards been Vigilant it most likely would have been a lot harder for vader to take the temple.
Just so you know, the movies relying on external sources is NOTHING new, and it does bug me a lot when they do that; while Episode III is my favorite of the movies to date, it really does feel (at least to me) like it banks a bit too much on people having watched the animated series that came out leading up to it, and read so many of the books that came out leading up to it, etc. Like, it expected that you already knew General Grievous, who was introduced in the aforementioned animated series, because it presents him like he needs no introduction in the film. Now, this is coming from someone who DID watch the series, and DID read all those books leading up to Revenge of the Sith, so I might be seeing things that aren't there, but regardless, this is an issue that predates even the Prequel Trilogy.
I think the reason why the NR fleet was by Hosnian Prime is that the NR thought that if the First Order were to attack the NR, it would attack the NR's capital (Hosnian Prime) by sending the fleet there. So the NR's fleet was logically at Hosnian Prime to defend against such an attack.
Really like how you talked about the EU and how where a fan starts with SW tends to define their fandom a bit. Spot on theory, man I agree. One of the best things about SW is that it has something for everyone. I wish some of the hardcore fans could accept that SW is bigger than them. It's bigger than ANY individual fan. But that's what makes it so freaking great. It gives all of us the same feelings, just in different, very personal ways. Great video, as always. May the Force be with you.
This isn’t a question but I would love a 15 minutes long video where you rank all the Star Wars movies. Also love your q and a series👏 EDIT: also think your q and a series are very cool very cool very cool
Darth Awesome Those videos usually just end up making mad because I disagree with the people making them 😂 But I know Alex would have a good ranking and be respectful in ranking them so I’d definitely like to see that
I don't care too much about post-ROTJ legends personally. But I was sure they would have continued that story-line by now. People want it! There's no great excuse, just print legends on the cover. No one's gonna be confused. Hopefully after episode 9 they'll consider it.
I really hope so. I don’t want them to continue it forever just fill in the gaps between Fate of the Jedi and the legacy comics. Then they can be done with legends forever
Yeah. A final book trilogy or something like that with some fan favourite authors to finish it off would be a smart move and show a lot of respect to that side of the fan base. A small part of me thinks that if that was going to happen they would have done it already. Hopefully that part of me is wrong.
People think they're doing sequels for Solo? Lol. It's a PREQUEL! That's what the majority of Star Wars movies are. Can't wait to watch Han get younger and younger. I've always wanted to see what he was like as a baby.
6:07 - I am a real fan of the old republic era, but I have to say, it would be very interesting to see canon telling Revan's history, for instance, but using the visual references from the Tales of the Jedi storyline (protosabers, the strange clothes, ships with several pieces together, hyperspace space stations because the hyperdrivers were not powerfull, etc)
RE stormtrooper variants: even the old Visual Dictionary for the OT makes reference to Lavatroopets and MineTroopers and Aquatroopers who are specialized in training and armor for lava world, mining operations and water worlds
Alex, Kudos for another great video keeping fans up-to-date on the latest Star Wars news. I want to respond to your comments on Rogue One. Honestly, I had no trouble understanding the motivations of the film's characters even though I never read the tie-in novels. For example, in the Rogue One teaser trailer, Jyn Erso is clearly being forced to help the Rebels. This baffled me since who wouldn't want to join the good guys. Rogue One brilliantly explains this. Erso was a true believer in the Rebellion because Rebel leader Saw saved her after her mother's death and father's kidnapping. But Erso grew disillusioned with Saw's brutal tactics and finally quit when he abandoned her. After that experience, I could sympathize with Erso cynically viewing the Rebels as no better than the Empire. So, Erso's journey of moving from cynicism to selfless heroism is compelling This human touch made the new heroes and villians of Rogue One alive . That's what impressed me about the film, which is now among my favorites in the franchise. Rogue One avoids my biggest gripe about the prequels, whose mostly flat characters didn't connect with me on a personal level. (Episode 3 is the exception for the same reasons I like Rogue One.) Thanks again for your enthusiasm and though-provoking commentary.
Do you think in the Solo featurette when it referred to that the Empire is in the height of its power it could be referring to the destruction of the final Separatist holdouts. Mimban was mentioned to have fighting on it in the clone wars as well as it would make sense that the Empire would be at it's height when it finally destroys the separatists.
@2:19 - As a fan of storytelling, I can halfway agree with you. If it's something technical like the inner workings of a Hyperdrive Module, that's okay to leave to books. But if it's something crucial to understanding the plot - Holdo and Tico's motivations, for example - I feel that it absolutely must be given in some form in the movie. To do otherwise, in my opinion, removes the necessity of telling the story through the use of film.
On the force ghosts they could have so much fun with it. Lets say perhaps that while the others on the panel talk about how to best guide Rey in her next challenge, Anakin could say "You know its time I have a talk with the boy" (Ben).
S.W.E, Any chance you will ever do a weekly live podcast here on youtube? TH-cam has the chat feature which would be kind of neat to pile in and chat while you either answer questions, just chat, or play battlefront or something
Regarding the EU... First, hard to say what exactly I 'grew up with'. I was too young to see the OT in theatre, but was introduced to those films first on VHS once old enough. From there I took to reading all the novels and playing all the video games (did not get into the comics, though I was aware of some of the stories). Suffice to say I do have a deep connection with the EU. As for me though, I did not panic or such when Disney announced all of it as Legends. And that is because legends are a thing. Until the canon says something that specifically contradicts a legend, then the legends are canon as far as I care. Like... 'Hey, did you hear the rumor... the Empire supposedly has a starfighter that can cloak... though they are few in number.' Or... 'Malachor V? Yea, I have a theory on what happened there nearly four thousand years ago.' Etc. Dash is still out there doing his thing. Jan and Kyle are taking on various missions. And Vader may have had a secret apprentice... since it is a secret. It is all good. No need to presume everything you love is 'worthless' just because another fan (or Disney) wants to write stories without having to account for that. Lucas did that, but he did also incorporate bits of the EU, and so is Disney.
In my opinion, the Old Republic stuff is still canon. None of it contradicts anything in the new canon as of yet, and it’s got a lot of good stories. And I kind of hope some of the better stories might get officially canonized, so that I can sleep better.
I'd like the Old Republic era to have smaller ships, blasters with slower rates of fire (or even a greater reliance on slug-shooters), and much more limited hyperdrive travel.
In TLJ, why didn’t the resistance flew their transports in the big canon of the FO? If they had enough fuel for the speeders, then maybe they could have put the fuel into the transports and make a big bomb out of them.
Grand Master Skywalker Do you really think fuel for 8 tiny speeders will fill up a transport? And even if it did how would they get it out of the cave? Why would they open the door? That would allow the 20 gorilla walkers to focus all their power on them.
I like the EU & New Canon but I lean a little more on the EU because I grew up with it and has lots of good stories. I think they could’ve had the Sequel Trilogy after Crucible or after Legacy
I haven't read the book but I can relate with you on the lack of character development in Rogue One. It's the reason why I rank it lowest among the new era movies, even though its third act is one of the best things in Star Wars history.
I really hope the technology in The Old Republic is shown to work slower, including hyperspace jumps and the equipment to be more sensitive to impacts. To not have ships with powerful shields and that kind of things.
Question:: How can Felicity Jones sign up for multiple viewings? Answer: two words. Jyn Flashbacks (or guest star voice on the small screen and x number of appearances equals one movie). Basically, if they need her, they got her. Ps. That cut to that scene from Rouge One got me 😂😂
I think a way to solve jet lag would be to go to one point on the planet that has the same time zone as where you were. Again days could be shorter or longer though. Also the point you want to go to on that planet might not be in that specific time zone
Jet Lag is something you experience when changing time zones, because you're trying to get your sleep cycle to sync up with the daylight hours on that side of the planet. So no, hyperspace has nothing to do with jet lag; If you depart at 12 noon from Tatooine and decide to land your ship in a time zone on Endor which is currently 12 noon, you'll have no jet lag at all if they spin at the same rate. If you stay in space, there's no reason to experience jet lag either, just keep going with the time it was where you left from. It's only if you land in a place planetside where it's a much different time of day than where you started from that will cause you to get jet lagged, hyperspace or not.
I'd like to see a toned down version of how technology is portrayed in 'Tales of the Jedi'. It was also my only complaint about Kotor where 4000 years doesn't seem to mean anything ^^
I believe that Mon Mothma's goal of demilitarizing the Republic was her attempt at making the galaxy go back to the way it was before the clone wars. Back when the Republic had no army and they didn't have any threats, thousands of years of peace happened in the Republic before the Separatist movement and during that time they had no major military force. Mon Mothma was a senator during the clone wars so she was around before the clones and saw the peace of not having a military so after the downfall of the Empire she wanted to bring the galaxy back to that stage of demilitarized peace. The problem was that she did it so soon after the Imperial surrender so any high imperial commanders and loyalists remaining were free to rebuild their empire without the threat of the Republic. That's why the First Order grew so large. If Mothma would have waited 50 or so years before demilitarization most imperials would have died out and under the threat of the Republic military they wouldn't have been able to acquire such a big force and so much resources. The threat of the Republic would have made it 10x harder for the Imperials to recrute and brainwash so many loyal children to use as an army so the scale of the stormtrooper army would have needed to be a lot smaller to stay a secret, resulting in a weaker force that after the natural death of the Imperial officers and loyalists would have left the few inducted First Order soldiers without a plan or big enough force to overthrow the Republic. Thus they would either be desroyed by the Republic fleet or be disbanded without the leadership of the old imperials. Mon Mothma's intentions were noble and understandable to demilitarize tve Republic and go back to the peace before the Clone wars, but she did it so soon that it allowed the remaining Imperials free reign to rebuild the Empire without opposition
Here's a question ! Recently some Solo posters have been released with the name of the actors as their characters like "Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo" or "Emilia Clarke as Qi'Ra" and for every other major characters of the movie... except Chewbacca, there is no poster with "Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca". So what do you think about it ? Is there a reason for that ? Personally I don't think it's fair for the actor.
Alex what are your thoughts on Obi-wan's discovery in TCW S6 that Dooku was Tyranus and why he didn't seem to think about investigating the clones? (i.e. he just found out the sith had a hand in creating the clone army, yet they don't look in to it?)
In the show the explain why. They are too heavily involved in the war using the clone army. They can't withdraw the army and replace them because they are at war. Plus, they think that if it becomes public knowledge the republic citizens will not trust the Republic since their army was created by the separatist leader. I also think the Jedi don't suspect the clones are the tool to their downfall. I feel the Jedi think the Sith just wanted to start a war for the chaos it brings and that's how they will gain power. They don't suspect the clone themselves as the weapon, they see them as pawns in the Siths game.
if you had to recommend the best conon materiel (movie, comic, book) and the best Legends material for someone to enjoy what would they be respectively.
I;m torn on the EU stuff. I was born the same year Empire came out, and so I could arguably be considered to be part of that EU gap, but the main thing is I grew up with the original films as part of my childhood and wanted more. I checked out a lot of EU material, and, I mean, I enjoyed some of it and a lot of it was trash. And of the stuff I enjoyed, a fair share has aged poorly. I can understand why some people are upset with it, but...I don't really mind the switch to Legends.
Solo A Star Wars Story, the prequel to the originals that is a sequel to the prequels that canes before the first one that is episode 4 and is a second stand alone after rogue one that takes place 10 after it. Man! That a big mouth full!
I’m I just have a question for clarification, in the book “Last Shot” it is implied that the senate or “The New Republic” is on Chandrilla 2 years after the battle of Jakku but in the Aftermath book the capital was moved to Nakadia because of the bombing on chandrilla so was the capital moved to nakadia then back to chandrilla or did they get the capital wrong ?
Could you do a personal ranking video for all the Star Wars films after Solo? You won’t need to make that video for a while considering 9 isn’t out until December 19’ 👍👌🙌
About the demilitarization of the New Republic and the fleet at Hosnian Prime, maybe we will get a story that tells the Resistance went after the New Republic shipyards to control and defend them, and also had to gather the remaining New Republic fleet back together or something. Not that I think we will get it in Star Wars 9, I think the war will end there, and what I described would be necessary in the very beginning.
I like that we get new stormtrooper variants. To people that say well where were they in the original trilogy I think the the only two places where other troopervarients would have made since is on tatoine and endor but then I think. On tatoine they were not expecting much resistance and they can't possibly have EVERY variant on every star destroyer. And on ended there isn't really a good excuse but I explain it as if the empire were so overconfident that they felt like they didn't need any camouflage. On hoth the troopers wore white uniforms and other than that we don't se them on any other planet, just on different ships and bases.
I am like very split with Legends and Canon because obviously I like the Old Republic era a lot and it's sad that we have small fragments of that era in canon so I just love writing Fan Fictions because you can to an extent do what you want.
I'm with you there. I'm actually liking the new Canon better, but there are inevitably a few creative decisions I don't agree with: erasing Jacen and Jaina Solo is a big one for me, as is completely destroying the Nightsisters. I'm still holding onto the hope we'll see Mara Jade in the new Canon some day, but it's clear she probably won't be serving the same role she did in Legends, at least when it comes to the post OT era. (Maybe she could be an Inquisitor?)
I know it was hard working backwards to make the timeline work making the movies, but why wouldn't Owen and Beru just give Luke their last name? Especially if Obiwan told them to keep him hidden. Has anything about this been brought up in canon or legends?
About the aesthetic of the Old Republic, it's important to remember that Star Wars in science fantasy. Maybe blasters have to be reloaded revolver-style. I'm not sure of the specifics, but I would really like to see some tech function changes.

I don't want to see a wooden star destroyer

Darth Calanil yes very likely!
Eric Santucci Agreed
What is the origin of the Mandalorian skull we see on their flags? How come they use it as the design for their flags? Was it an ancient creature from Mandalore?
So Han doesn't die in Solo confirmed?
Cosmo77 yah but Chewie will die because his head will hit a rock on a train

Snokes Background
Reys Background
Where the Knights of Ren are
Whos DJ
Hyperspace Kamikaze mechanics
The bombers propelling bombs downward aka "Dropping Bombs"
hyperspace tracking
Who is the 1st Jedi
how can force ghost use the force (haha this one cracks me up)
etc and etc....i can keep going but you see my point. Most this stuff shouldn't have to be added and some of it is even common sense. The fact ppl are saying these should have been added shows me how nitpicky and bias the fandom is. I didnt even like TLJ much and i can see the hypocrisy in the fandom
Unfortunately most of the world building is done in the books. Not ideal... but eh.
In ESB, han solo says '' then i'll see you in hell ''. Does this mean that there is hell in the star wars universe?
anton laatikainen well obviously at least the concept of it..
People say that a lot in the real world, does that mean that hell is a 100% confirmed in our world?
I think that was already answered in a previous Q&A.
Emilio Alvear, I mean, is there a common religion with hell in the star wars universe
Probably a concept of hell
Not to be THAT guy. But do you know any canonical reason for the Elite Praetorian's blade disappearing whilst fighting Rey?
The High Ground I know right
They shoulded have made Rey force the guard to drop that thing and THEN go with the move
Force with a pinch of nanomachines.
tbh people would probably complain about feminism power or something stupid.
She Mary Sues it away
Alex, you're absolutely right about how we all like the Star Wars we grew up with the best. I was born in '98, so I grew up as the prequels were coming out. I grew up watching all 6 movies, and as a kid I didn't even realize the distinction between Original and Prequel. They were all Star Wars to me, and I loved them all the same. I still hold that belief today.
Rogue One, just a SMIDGE behind Empire as #1 movie. The Last Jedi doesn't even belong on the list as I refuse to believe this movie was cannon.
Isn’t the solo sequel a new hope?
No.... It happened before, atleast 5 years before ANH
No it will be Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story
Guys, guys. A New Hope is Rogue Two. Another time rebels infiltrate an imperial station and steal a prisoner and another time the rebels are on a sand planet and another time Dr. Evazan is a jerk...
Nirate Goel It's more like ten years
I love RO. I cried when Jyn and Cassian died.
K2 got me the hardest. I’d never considered the fact that they’d kill off a droid sidekick before then.
The music was what I loved about it.
rogue one is amazing
I love RO.1 to but I didn't cry when Jyn Erso & Cassian Andor died BUT I cried when K2SO died 😢
Is anyone online by chance?
That RLM reference, though... Very cool. ;)
I love that you suggest writing fanfiction, you're seriously such a cool down to earth dude like it's so easy to hate on fanfic. I love your channel!!
Isn't true though that Lucas never even considered "Legends" canon to begin with? If so, then why this attachment to it to begin with?
He gave specific instructions for the writers of The Force Unleashed, and he detailed what happened right before Revenge of the Sith to James Luceno (Labyrinth of Evil) and Gendy Tartakovsky (2D Clone Wars), and he loved Shadows of the Empire a lot.''
TL,DR: There was a lot of love for Legends and Lucas did still have a hand in it despite not considering it canon to his movies.
You’re the best news and updates channel and you explain your opinions really well
it's hilarious how you linked Redlettermedia. I was thinking the exact same thing when you showed the clip!
for the jetlag question, in the novelization of the first season of rebels, Ezra experiences a bit of that the first time he hyperspace travels on the ghost. also, hera mentions that if you jump too many times within a short period of time, then you do start to get a bit sick
Red Letter Media and Star Wars Explained crossover? Very cool.
I think what you've said here about specialised Stormtroopers applies just as much to the Porgs. So what if they were only made to sell toys? Just pipe down and pet the thing.
Also applies to the A-wings and B-wings, and they're considered classic designs.
Porgs were needed to get rid of the puffins on skellig Michael
GZSW Sports54 I mean, they could've just had the birds in the background. They wanted something cute to sell. That's fine, too.
. . . you really think Star Wars fans would've have just ignored the fact that a very distinct earth bird was all over the place?
Man, that question at 8:00 gave me chills. I remember how I reacted when finding out they said that none of it matters anymore.
Love your Thrawn Funko Pop. It's probably been there all along but this is the first time it's jumped out at me.
Do you think Star Wars Resistance will be the last animation for star wars that Dave Filoni does? After that he will then move onto Live action? If so, what are the chances of his first live action show/movie involving Ahsoka and what happened to Ezra and Thrawn etc?
Brandon I hope not, I just love the animation series. I think he is really talented in that medium.
I think they said that thier a live action show(s) in the works for the Disney streaming service
I’m still holding out hope for a clone wars style show in between episodes 8 and 9.
I'm glad you're honest with your view on TLJ.
Also love your q and a series👏
EDIT: also think your q and a series are very cool very cool very cool
Darth Awesome
Those videos usually just end up making mad because I disagree with the people making them 😂
But I know Alex would have a good ranking and be respectful in ranking them so I’d definitely like to see that
I don't care too much about post-ROTJ legends personally.
When Han says "That's not how the Force works!" isn't he technically wrong?
Great video as always.
7:20 that is a really good point...
Honestly never thought of that.
Alex,
Kudos for another great video keeping fans up-to-date on the latest Star Wars news.
So, Erso's journey of moving from cynicism to selfless heroism is compelling
This human touch made the new heroes and villians of Rogue One alive . That's what impressed me about the film, which is now among my favorites in the franchise. Rogue One avoids my biggest gripe about the prequels, whose mostly flat characters didn't connect with me on a personal level. (Episode 3 is the exception for the same reasons I like Rogue One.)
Thanks again for your enthusiasm and though-provoking commentary.
Star wars news with class. Thanks dude.
On the force ghosts they could have so much fun with it. Lets say perhaps that while the others on the panel talk about how to best guide Rey in her next challenge, Anakin could say "You know its time I have a talk with the boy" (Ben).
Jet lag is a thing in star wars because in Lost Stars one of the characters complains that their space lagged
Catherine Nyxsera I’m experiencing all of the trilogies semi-equally
In my opinion, the Old Republic stuff is still canon. None of it contradicts anything in the new canon as of yet, and it’s got a lot of good stories. And I kind of hope some of the better stories might get officially canonized, so that I can sleep better.
Your answer to the EU vs Current Canon is IMO dead on.
Thanks for voicing my heart ache 8:30 Alex.
I'd like the Old Republic era to have smaller ships, blasters with slower rates of fire (or even a greater reliance on slug-shooters), and much more limited hyperdrive travel.
Is there any explanation of Darth Mauls earring?
Nelkir, Sohn von Balgruuf He's gay.
In such a huge galaxy there has to be some random obscure stormtrooper variant that only appears in a particular sector I guess
I highly doubt those speeders even had compatible fuel. You can’t fill up an airplane with the regular gas you get at the station.
I think I remember reading of Leia commenting about not liking how she felt after hyperspace jumps in the TLJ novel, but I could be wrong
I have the exact same calendar in my room...
Agreed with all your points!
Just a what if question, what do you think about Benedict Cumberbatch playing a live action Thrawn?
Who would win in a battle against each other..
The Ghost, Poe In his X-wing, or Han and Chewbacca in the Falcon?
Very cool
Question:: How can Felicity Jones sign up for multiple viewings?
Answer: two words. Jyn Flashbacks (or guest star voice on the small screen and x number of appearances equals one movie). Basically, if they need her, they got her.
Ps. That cut to that scene from Rouge One got me 😂😂
Would you ever consider doing a fix it style video where you would make changes to some of the things you don’t like about the movies?
Could you please do some more live streams for Battlefront II and could you try to do them weekly?
The allies that Leia was talking about in TLJ are probably gonna be a bunch of Gungans
Alex answered my question about patron questions what a legend. Not like EU legend but more like Luke Skywalker legend
Do you think characters like Sinjar from aftermath will appear again?
Some Battlefront II characters have appeared in some one shots in a magazine (forgot the name), so maybe we'll see them more soon
Has there ever been a way to give people force energy in canon or legends?
Cathal Keaney mother talzin gives savage the force in the clone wars
Could you do a personal ranking video for all the Star Wars films after Solo? You won’t need to make that video for a while considering 9 isn’t out until December 19’ 👍👌🙌
Hyped to see Solo but I would not have liked to have sequels of it though
About the demilitarization of the New Republic and the fleet at Hosnian Prime, maybe we will get a story that tells the Resistance went after the New Republic shipyards to control and defend them, and also had to gather the remaining New Republic fleet back together or something. Not that I think we will get it in Star Wars 9, I think the war will end there, and what I described would be necessary in the very beginning.
Good vid
Nice shout out to RLM, was not expecting that.
Very cool.
I clapped when I saw that, I clapped
I like that we get new stormtrooper variants. To people that say well where were they in the original trilogy I think the the only two places where other troopervarients would have made since is on tatoine and endor but then I think. On tatoine they were not expecting much resistance and they can't possibly have EVERY variant on every star destroyer. And on ended there isn't really a good excuse but I explain it as if the empire were so overconfident that they felt like they didn't need any camouflage.
On hoth the troopers wore white uniforms and other than that we don't se them on any other planet, just on different ships and bases.
We have the exact same SW movie ranking ! =D
hey explained, if there was a story that you like in legends and you wanted to be canon, what will it be and what changes will you do to make it fit.
I would rather have the legends canon than movies that are coming out know, it just has a special place in my heart.
CaptainEz Gaming is it a trap😁
You’re entitled to that opinion. Personally I like big stories but I “root” for canon because I want to keep getting new stories
I am like very split with Legends and Canon because obviously I like the Old Republic era a lot and it's sad that we have small fragments of that era in canon so I just love writing Fan Fictions because you can to an extent do what you want.
I knew you'd bring up SOLO apparent sequel thing. Because all he says is he could appear in more sw movies
Is that a note with a smooch on it on the desk next to the right speaker?
Very cool.
Alex referencing RedLetterMedia - a crossover more ambitious that Infinity War
The contract is so that if they do make more in the future, he has to do that movie instead of other projects.
I love both Canon and Legends but I want a Hier To The Empire movie so badly gosh dang it!
