Jim, I've got to say, you've got a lot of brilliant videos, but this one is one of my favorites out of your catalog. Something about the scenery, the blue sky, the curves of Route 8, and that brilliant Stevie Wonder song, plus the insanity that is the I-84 interchange at the end, all come together to make an excellent viewing experience that I keep finding myself coming back to!
Jim, it don't matter when you produce your videos, they supersede my expectation. your videos make me anticipate watching the next one. I can't commend you enough for your phenomenal work, but I thank God and you for your awesome videos!! (GVJ)!!!!!!!
Jim, this is the one I've been waiting years for. And let me say, you handled it masterfully! Route 8 was probably my most frequently traveled non-interstate highway. Being from Connecticut, it was an essential artery for many of my busines s and pleasure travels. And when the last segment was completed in the early '80s, it provided an uninterrupted mini-holiday on wheels. I moved away from CT 12 years ago. Thank you for bringing one of my all time favorite highways back to me!
Naugatuck is my home town! I'm so thrilled you came to CT! I've been watching your channel for a while now; all your videos are great! I appreciate the history and background you provide along the way. Side note: They call the intersection of Rt. 8 and 84 "the mixmaster." Can't wait to see Hartford next!
Thanks for personally recommending this drive to me, back in 2009. Had a lot of fun driving this freeway. Definitely one of the more interesting freeways, out on the east coast.
Thank you! I don't know much about the port of CT-8 north of Waterbury, never drove it. There are several websites that have more info on it if you are interested. yes the interchange with I-84 is very cool, nothing else like it!
Great videos Jim, lots of memories on this one doing bridge work back in the day. Raining one morning waiting on a ramp to get cancelled and a guy went by doing doughnuts into the median, rolled 3-4 times ended up on the roof, climbed out took 2 dizzy steps sideways and fell over knocking himself out on the guardrail just as a cop pulled up. Keep up the good work.
This road reminds me a little bit of parts of the highways on Need for Speed Most Wanted- the 2005 video game that had some freeways after seeing this I swear were inspired by some of the roads on the east coast! Awesome vid, great soundtrack as usual and I hope you have safe travels!
Always wanted to see the I-84/CT-8 interchange from the CT-8 perspective. FYI, I-84 is the only interstate which goes through my home area of Dutchess County, NY. Also, excellent choice of music. Makes me want to hop on I-84 and head towards Waterbury... :)
SUBSCRIBED!! great video, can wait to check out more of your videos. I grew up in Bridgeport and lived up and down Rte 8 through out my young adulthood. brings back good memories!! thank you sir!! btw, if you want to see some crazy interchanges come visit us out here in Southern California. LA has the craziest interchanges in the world.. LOL cheers!
Loved this video, drove this way many, many times when I lived in CT. CT-8 becomes even prettier north of Waterbury, through Torrington and into Winsted. It's a lot hillier and windier when you head further north.
When we went to Boston last time, we took interstate 84 the whole time and then the mass pike. We used to take i 95 and there were lots of traffic and that was a longer way.
went threw The Valley probably the only scenic highway part in CT there is more scenic views but not seen from highways that much. Plus some of the most beautiful Mcintosh Apple Fields around
One thing I noticed after looking at this route on Google Maps is that CT doesn't measure their exit numbers off of mile markers. Exit 33 is actually 29.5 miles from the beginning of CT-8. I-84 eastbound from the NY state line to the MA state line is 97.4 miles and the last exit on I-84 is exit 74. I'm not a fan of numbering exits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 etc. I prefer the exit numbers to be in sync with the mile markers and using A, B, C, etc. for multiple exits within the same milepost.
Great job...your work is always top notch. Seeing violator getting pulled over was an unexpected twist; he should have pulled the black suv for that boneheaded move its driver did just before you came up on the cop...maybe here's a new theme..."Real Stories of the Highway Patrol by FreewayJim"!
Florida, Georgia and Pennslyvania also used to do that but switched around the late 90's early 2000's I agree with you aon that I hope the few remaining states switch soon.
Thank you! I stopped mentioning EVERY exit on the roads I filmin 2010, it just junked up the footage too much IMO so I only point out the important/relevant interchanges.
1:56 You'll have to do better than that, officer! You can't stop Jim! You just can't! :) 6:52 What about the part north of Waterbury? When was that completed? GREAT VIDEO! I've never been on this freeway before! I especially love seeing that massive interchange from Route 8 (I've only driven through it on I-84). :)
Thank you Carlos! I was in the LA area just a few weeks ago as part of a two week road trip and shot a ton if footage! Check out my current videos and follow along on the trip! Texas has equally crazy interchanges as there are in California.
Yes that was the British character "Mrs. Naugatuck" if I remember right. The writer was operating under the misconception that Naugatuck is an English name but it is Indian in origin.
Very great video and soundtrack Mr. Freeway Jim! 10 out of 10! Just one important comment and question: I noticed in most of your freeway videos you mention every interchange you drive past! However, in other videos, you refrain from mention the exits! Do you have a certain type of critieria you have to follow when producing your videoes? For example, importance of exits, points of interests, video upload size, or number of notations per video?
It's sped up to cover longer distance in a shorter time, real time driving videos IMO are painfully boring. The footage is sped up to match the tempo of the particular music being used, that's basically what this channel is, as all videos are made that way.
You're Welcome! BTW, S/N: (1) Under which standards do you go by in determining whether a major city is a good or bad choice to visit when producing a highway video? Crime rates, important highways, traffic environments, frequency of disasters, points of interest, etc.? (2) Do you ever get to visit Springfield, MA; Buffalo, NY; Syracuse, NY; Harrisburg, PA; or any major northeastern city other than ones have recently filmed?
I film what I think will be interesting which is based on previous experiences, photos, Google Earth or in some cases recommendations. I have Springfield Mass & Albany NY videos coming soon, I have filmed Harrisburg back in 2007 but those videos are not up any longer for a variety of reasons.

That's an oldie from the pre-HD days, glad you enjoy it, thank you!
I love the green scenery through route 8, and the music fits perfectly with it!
Thank you!

Much, much appreciated, thank you!

I've travelled that road plenty of times.. when I lived in Boston.. yes awesome. you can't go wrong with Steve.. :)))

CT 8 is replete with strange interchanges along its entire length.
I agree and that makes it an interesting drive.
Great video as always! I have never been to Connecticut but I talk to a lot of people there because of my job(I work for a major seller of flowers)
Great Drive to Waterbury to I 84. Thanks for the tip. Next Time we go up to Mass. or Maine. Can't wait for the next video. =)
Great scenery and great music, thanks for the ride!
Thanks, we had safe travels and have been back home in ATL for 2 months now.

NFS freeways are insanity

Nice driving and perfect choice in music!
Thanks! Love me some "mixmaster" would love to do a "360" video of it someday when I have the time to spare.
When we went to Boston last time, we took interstate 84 the whole time and then the mass pike. We used to take i 95 and there were lots of traffic and that was a longer way.
Thank you, I did not film CT-9 but on the next video I go under the half-abandon stack on I-84.
Thank you, yes SITKOL is an AWESOME albumI very deserving of it's place in music history. That puppy experience must have been quite the adventure.
This one is My favorite
Thanks, glad you enjoy it!

You are welcome! glad you enjoyed it.
Jim you do cool vids
❤
Thanks, glad you enjoy them!
GG
GREAT JOB
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Mrs. Naugatuck, Maude's maid from the sitcom, was named after Naugatuck, CT. Great song btw.
Thank you!
Thanks, probably not anytime soon, but it is a nice ride.
Florida, Georgia and Pennslyvania also used to do that but switched around the late 90's early 2000's I agree with you aon that I hope the few remaining states switch soon.
Nice one Jim! You nailed the track for this one.
Thank you!
Hello, Love the vids FreewayJim, any chance of you hitting I-70 through Maryland in the Future?
Thank you! I stopped mentioning EVERY exit on the roads I filmin 2010, it just junked up the footage too much IMO so I only point out the important/relevant interchanges.
Thanks John
This is another very enjoyable video.
That is Atlanta where I-85 and I-75 South merge together.
Thanks, much appreciated!
Love your videos, would you ever do the West Coast or Canada?
Waterbury is also called the Brass City, but most of the the factories have moved, but it still hold on to that name for some people
I love this video. So dope can't wait till I have a car so I can travel around the US !!
If I ever get to those places I would.
1:56 You'll have to do better than that, officer! You can't stop Jim! You just can't! :)
6:52 What about the part north of Waterbury? When was that completed?

And the best cider you'll ever have!
Thanks!
Probably Friday, I'm on a Monday-Friday release schedule.
Thank you, I think the policeman was going to assist that car on the side of the road.
@6:00...Naugatuck was the name of the housekeeper on "Maude"
Yes that was the British character "Mrs. Naugatuck" if I remember right. The writer was operating under the misconception that Naugatuck is an English name but it is Indian in origin.
Sorry, "Native American" I should say!
Copyright issue for the most part, the YT police zapped it....it was just one video now that I think about it.
Very scenic country!
I wonder if they will ever finish the Bridgeport to Newtown freeway.
Nice vid and soundtrack as well!
Tee J Thank you!
good stuff Jim!

Thank you, I try :)
Uggh, you're the 10th person to ask me about that road, maybe one day but it is not high on my list.
WELL done!
Thank you!
Maine is the only state in New England that measures exit by mile-markers, and that's only within the last few years.
Question for FW Jim: What did you mean by, "It wasn't me, nobody saw me do it..."?
state trooper @1:56
Driven this way sooooo many times! It’s weird to see on camera
The north-south freeways in CT go through some gorgeous country and are very pleasant to drive. The east-west routes(84 & 95)not so much.
Why do you have it so fast?
It's sped up to cover longer distance in a shorter time, real time driving videos IMO are painfully boring. The footage is sped up to match the tempo of the particular music being used, that's basically what this channel is, as all videos are made that way.

You bet!
MERRITT PARKWAY @ night. No street lights. Love the Merritt.
I film what I think will be interesting which is based on previous experiences, photos, Google Earth or in some cases recommendations. I have Springfield Mass & Albany NY videos coming soon, I have filmed Harrisburg back in 2007 but those videos are not up any longer for a variety of reasons.
I was going 60-65 most of the way
is there a way I could get lots of viewers right away
Bridgeport was full of factories and other industries back in the day
+MinecraftGuy 13 What?

Welcome to the MixMaster at 8;22 lol

copyright issues, YT/Google account problems, too many dislikes/flags, reasons you don't want to disclose
The bus almost missed the exit.

Probably not.
There isn't much worth filming there, sorry. Maybe I-95N to I-91N when all the construction is done would be worth a video.
at 3:12 to 3:22 yeah lets not encourage too many ppl or there will be more traffic :)
Reylyn
