Thank YOU, Boomer for supporting the Model Railroad Community by sharing your most incredible modelling skill sets and efforts. And with producing all of your truly incredible tutorial videos. You've opened up an entirely new perspective for an alternative approach on many levels that leads to amazing quality, durability, efficiency, and ultimately much happiness for so many individual modelers - you are a true blessing! Thank you, thank you!
That was a real treat. The music fit perfectly. There is just a special overall quality that makes you look twice. Most layouts have something that immediately catches your eye to spoil the illusion; not so here. Beautiful!
Those trees, just so beautiful, and then you discover other stuff like that blue boat at the side of the dock, or the grass growing on that flat bed, not a singular story, but many if you are keen eyed enough to discover them.
I don’t know if I missed it before or if it was just another of your Easter eggs, but I caught the Boomer graffiti on the end of the boat ramp. Just like every artist… you signed your masterpiece
I love the part where the switcher is running light around the cut of cars. It takes me back when I worked as a brakeman on a three man crew. The brakeman worked the "field" while the conductor handled switches on the lead. On a long move you'd see the engine coming off the lead towards you from a distance. In the early morning it was a cool thing to see the engine moving almost silently through a little haze or fog till it got closer. You'd radio the car count till he could see your hand signal to the coupling. Couple, stretch, air him up and send him back to the lead. Basic railroading yes but full of the prototypical ambiance you've seemed to capture so accurately here. Meanwhile, here in Whoville I've run out of cork. Off to the store! Cheers!
Outstanding Boomer!!! Never get tired of seeing your layout and watching that MP15 moving a cut of cars is pure bliss. My son occasionally crews on an MP15 (they usually use one of three GP38's)... An "operating session" video would be great.
Remarkable attention to detail! The level of artistry in this compact layout reveals more the longer observed. Lovely sound track as well, and I didn’t miss the moose!
Good to see you using those flatcars as idlers, keeping the weight of the engine off the ferry. Probably should be off of the floating ramp as well. Excellent work.
@@boomerdiorama Interesting -- on the Great Lakes ferries I know, ships of about 400 feet length, the locos never went near them. May have been more a factor of the loading ramp facilities than of the ferries themselves.
Wow, really cool to see the RR in action. Absolutely superb detail at every and any angle. Totally incredible! Thank you for producing such high quality videos to help us all become better modelers. You are the go to man for all the right stuff. Cant stop watching!
What’s not to love about little switchers !!! I’m partial to Gen1 ALCo units but everybody has their favorites, right 😃😃. The short line we had here in Green Bay was all ALCo roster and their little Rs3 (later rebuilt to Rs20s) switchers were some real workhorses and always fun to watch. Your little switcher with all that glass needs an engineer inside 👍🏼👍🏼
@boomerdiorama I ask myself, the weeds indicate that the flat cars have been neglected, like strings of boxcars stretched across prairie sidings. So why are they being shunted into use -- what loads are they being readied to carry?
I'm amazed and in awe of the fine details. The power lines going to the buildings look so accurate. If I didn't know it was a model railroad, I would swear I was looking at the real thing. Very well done sir. I am envious of your modeling skills.
Took me back to when I was young ( about 65 years ago ) and we went to the docks in a small town in Michigan and watched them load train cars on one of the Lake Michigan ferries.
As someone said, it's the small things that matter. 🙂 On the ferry the coiled hoses (on both sides) along with the jacks, chains and other stuff takes you into another world. Your camera work and lighting shows everything perfectly! Well done!
You've created quite the stage for many stories and this was a pleasant display of the handful we've watched evolve. As always, I love the details and mini-scenes, plus the various lighting, be it signals or streetlights or the beacon at the end of the wharf... This certainly rivals any of the master-modelers I grew up reading about in MR and RMC back in the old days, especially with the modern-day techniques and materials that are available now. Truly superb. :)
Well, done boomer very inspirational enjoy the detail work brings everything to life just adding a few things to make it jump out at you. Great videos enjoy the rest of the day and take care
Boomer, What a way to start the day Breakfast and a slice of River Road, magic. The Princess must have docked overnight I thought I heard it. I can see a pack of "Lone Wolves" moving in. Cheers, Chris Perry.
Truly an outstanding video. The myriad of details throughout every scene adds a depth of realism. In many scenes, it might be indistinguishable from real life if it weren't for the limited depth of field of the camera.
Nice work. Takes time to shoot all those different camera angles. But it's worth it. I had fun speed matching my new-to-me Athearn MP15 this afternoon. It's the yellow and grey LTEX, former UP, former SP. Sharp looking loco. Take care - Bill.
Operating video! Finally 😻 The classical theme was beautiful as a background, but I do missed your lovely loco sounds snorring like Dusty on top of it. 😘
I love the music and usually like to hear you speak but your layouts do their own talking. Brilliant planning, detailing and operational potential.........
Captivating as usual. Have you seen the youtube video, "Model railroad with awful track"? Not up to your standard, and not a scale speed, but at least it got a non-enthusiast interested in the subject - and here I am years later!
Feel like I can smell the ocean in the ferry scene. Feel like I’m getting eaten alive by bugs in the forest scene. Feel like I’m gonna get accosted by a meth head under the bridge scene. Simply amazing
If only there was a way to give those little puffs. I'm an o scaler and the diesel smoke units smoke almost like steam engines and its just too much. The smoke units need like a smoke box with a flapper, so when you Rev it up you get a puff and the little fan whirls up but that's it.
Nothing comes close to matching reality than River Road! Btw: it looks like the old lady has backed away from the fence line. Does she suffer from vertigo? Lol
2 questions on the operations shown. 1. does the Carrier Princess have to be loaded to balance the car loads within the boat (loads/ empties)? 2. for the freight cars that are dropped inside the boat are you using a Kadee coupler in a delayed mode so that you don't have to reach inside?
They do balance the load from the center to the outside usually. Kadee coupler's can be used to push, in the open position if you were not aware. Cheers.
I feel like I'm watching something on public broadcasting, with the classical music and cinematography. It just needed someone with a very British accent to do voice-overs! Is it just me or do you move your vehicles around randomly, park them a little differently, like real life....?
Thank you for such a terrific layout and nice video. Btw, I don’t see any yards on your layout, do you make it hide somewhere or don’t you have a yard at all? I watched many videos telling how important a yard was for operation, what do you think of a yard? Is it a must or will the operation go well without it? Thanks.
I don't need a yard. The operations are "Last Mile" locals. The yard is offline staging - like the Ferry which goes to an interchange off layout. Cheers.
Fun game, play "Spot the 'Boomer' " This was also fun and calming to watch. Nice a simple, but a good showcase. How do you uncouple in the ship? Do you just kind of have to make concessions about not being able to stick something into the model to uncouple or can you uncouple without easy access?
When I push them on they are gimbled first in the open "uncoupled" (shoving) position. But only when the back-stop is in place if you know what I mean . . . ;-)

Kadee couplers can push with open knuckles so they uncouple automatically when you back up.

There are three people already . . . and a moose . . . lol. Maybe more down the road. This build is huge and long term so no rush.
