Not a massive fan of driven shoots but wouldn’t want to see them disappear either as living in the Welsh countryside it’s clear what areas are managed by shoots as the varied amount of wildlife is prolific compared to non managed (wild) areas, this in part is due to keeping ground predators under control so you will see far more lapwings curlews and any ground nesting birds etc the biodiversity is massive on shoot owned land I see it first hand every time I go out for a walk most people haven’t got a bloody clue😞

@@DaveGraham-ci7st I shoot in a small syndicate shoot (of which there are many in Wales) and can confirm that they are wildlife havens when compared to unmanaged land. If you want to see a real wildlife desert then go look at a golf course. Two shoots I have been in adjoined one & the difference in wildlife numbers & variety was immediately apparent. If you doubt this go and watch a shoot drive through a wood on a small syndicate shoot & see how many song birds move through once the beaters start the drive. Control of vermin such as rats & grey squirrels makes a huge difference to the successful clutches of these birds. The RSPB know this, they don’t like to admit it but they do practice it themselves (albeit generally quite ineptly) & at huge expense funded by government grants. They are currently trying to wipe out hedgehogs & stoats in the Scottish Isles having been given millions of pounds in funding to do a job that a few experienced gamekeepers could do for a fraction of that cost - although most gamekeepers would probably refuse the task as they work to control pest numbers to manageable levels, not to wipe them out, it seems the RSPB has fewer qualms about genocide though.

@@DaveGraham-ci7st I’m fully aware what migratory fieldfares & Redwings look like, & yes they are there in numbers because the woodland is maintained for shooting & this provides them with the habitat they require. But I’m talking about native British song birds, especially the smaller species such as long tailed tits, which we have a lot of, as well as blackbirds & many other species. Additionally there are jays, woodpeckers & other larger birds which aren’t normally encountered in suburban gardens etc. but are plentiful in the woods maintained for & by shoots. And please stop using inaccurate & childishly emotive terms like “gun wielders” to describe responsible shotgun owners who are amongst the most heavily vetted civilians in the country & all of whom have been deemed fit & suitable persons to be issued a permit by the police. Unlike say a certain Mr Packham who has admitted to egg theft & illegally taking a young kestrel from the wild - perhaps you should turn your vitriol against the actual criminal instead?
