I'm a Small time TH-camr and I make my own videos and editing and I just started following this guy and I feel like he can guide me to my fullest potential
All great tips. May I add: Get a youTube channel and upload your edits and effects works. And don't worry about getting clients right away. The worst thing you can do is to get a paying client who wants their show turned around quick and you're stumped with suddenly finding your footage off-line, or lost audio, or needing to color grade the footage or getting your track keys to work. Get the basics down. There is no "learning on the job" with a client wanting their project done now.
Come next week, I retire from my 25 year career as a Java programmer, which was my 3rd career. I taught myself Java. Then I plan on making video editing with Premier Pro my retirement gig.
Well before I became a Java programmer, I was a workers compensation claims adjuster. That my friend is the worst job on the planet. My desire to change careers is what created the discipline needed to study Java and get a job. And now that I'm retiring, I have no desire to sit around and do nothing. So perhaps it is the desire to change that creates the discipline@@capabledronecraft
If I were to do it all over again, I'd probably do it the same way. I bought a book and went through it from start to finish. Then I took and passed the test for the Java programmer certificate. In scanning the books available on amazon, this one caught my eye-----"Learn Java 17 Programming" by Nick Samoylov. That's my two cents worth.@@nicehunter250

I just recently started the switch from Premiere to Davinci. I got worried at the start of the video because I saw your point. You want to have a good understanding of one program before switching. After I thought about it you actually installed some confidence in me...I feel I definitely have a solid base with Premiere. I love grading in premiere and it makes so much more sense to me...but like I said I'm very thankful I have my Premiere base. Keep it up my dude!
Stay on Premier. Davinci is much more advanced and has a much steeper learning curve. Premier is much simpler to use and you can combine it with after effects IF you need to add advanced motion graphics.
Excellent. It is like photography. Master the camera you have. Study and mimic the photographers you admire. Practice, practice, practice with goals in mind. And yes, communicate with others with experience.
Honestly I have wasted nearly a decade just "wanting to learn" about making videos because I have been such a heavy consumer of content and that life always seemed appealing to me. I achieved other dreams but I'm nearly 30 so I got to do it. Good words for motivation.
The staying consistent part is so real. I'm in film school now, already have taken edit 1 and 2, and of course, I started getting caught up in other classes/things, so I haven't made time to edit. Now I feel like I'm back at square one to a degree.
i only have like 3 hours every night to learn and start my project on editing. im using premiere pro right now and sometimes im feeling tired after work hours and unmotivated but i kept forced myself to doing it everyday. sometimes i fell asleep on my desk while editing and wake up mid night lol
3 hours is a lot of time. Focus on learning small skills each day and at the end of every week create something with everything you’ve learnt in that week. Once every two weeks create something with every skill you’ve learnt from the start. As you keep going you’ll eventually start to combine all your skills and your edits will begin to improve. Good luck!!
Im starting in capcut. I am so glad I saw this. Because I began with AE, Premier Pro, and Kinemaster. That drove me crazy and confused me more. this makes great sense. I am glad i saw this.
thank you, I found it really helpfull, expecialy in the minute 7:48 when you said "the slowly way to make money with this skill set is always seek the fastest path to getting rich with it", so true!
Guys. I'm interested more in colour grading, transitions, etc. Basically, the cinematic type of editing. How can I go into this niche? Is the too narrow?

What is a realistic timeline for a complete beginner to become very skilled in Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects if I dedicate at least 1-2 hours per day?
Thank you for this information. I've just started my channel and need to learn how to edit my videos (until I experience success and then I'll hire that out...) I've watched some tutorials, however one thing I wish I could see is the instructor's hands working on their Mac. For example, I'm having difficulty with dragging items in imovie (working with the "mouse pad" on the imac), and I wish I could watch the instructor's hands and fingers while executing the different functions. Does that make sense?
Dang bro. 8 years....do you have people on your staff? I'm learning in my 40's but have great experience with most other things due to life experiences.
I'm not interested in Editing for a career, or full time...or even part time. I just want to edit a few demo vids of my band every now and then. Not interested in joining a community or mastering anything or making money or etc...etc...etc. So, what's the easiest to use occasionally? What program do your recommend for a very occasional user.
I have a question as i started learning video editing, i bought davinci resolve studio version, my question is if i learn davinci this software can edit any kind of advance editing and animation which we see in top youtubers channel
I just download youtube videos. Also i subscribed to envato elements, i think its like 16 € a month. On there you get all the templates, stock footage, graphics, sound effects, visual effects you would ever need.
Do a day in the life video and use your phone to film it, you will become a better editor filming things (and vice versa). Edit together a montage of a friend's day, or ask an influencer you know to give you some clips to cut together. If there's something that you are interested in, go film that or somewhere you like to visit, film that...the scope is pretty endless. Hope that helps.

Ok great, but do you teach editing? The first thing I edited was a teaser trailer for a movie. I knew the basic principles of editing theoretically but had never done it and didn't know anything about the software so I fumbled my way to a pretty solid result. At the time I didn't even consider trying to start making money with it because I figured I would not be able to compete with everyone who went to film school.
