Phenomenal editing, super chill video to watch. The "Sir Duke" at the end gets bonus points, that run is probably my favorite bassline to play. Definitely subscribed
Thank you! People don't realize how hard editing is. I easily spent 30+ hours on the edit, trying to make it fun while explaining what's happening and why.
That's so cool back in the 80s I thought that would be neat to have something like that!! To see someone actually build one and play it !!! Wow I'm blown away!!!!!😮😊
That's so cool! If you ever think of making another niche but complementary combination, try a Bass VI on top, and a fretless 5-string jazz on the bottom. It gives you the precision highs, and the smooth lows. If you're gonna defret them yourself, you can go Squier for this one again. They make Bass VI's and fretted 5-string jazz's.
I'm in the process of doing the same, but with a full size Jazz bass on bottom and a 12 string Strat on top (reusing my old VM Jazz neck with a blank body, and a 12 string kit)! Good bit of inspiration from this to keep going and things to watch out for..
Very cool. Do you think you'll be able to reach the first fret of the bass comfortably if it's on bottom? For me that would not be reachable on a 34" scale.
i say this guy really looks big with this thing which already looks big too me like that's honestly very cool. i admire this guy's level on doing this, mad talented 🔥🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
This was once an idea of many of us to create one, but you must be proud of yourself that you did it. It's a awesome journey to make this beauty. Only i will choose to put the bass above and the guitar beneath wiith a tremelo. Awesome job of you.
I agree, if you have a 34" full scale bass it probably has to be on top. However, it's also very hard to play barre chords if the guitar is on bottom. My solution was to put a short scale bass on bottom so playing guitar would be comfortable.
Very nice build my friend! The body design, the contrasting pickguards with that seamless curvilinear transition are really great. I would only choose a solid color instead of transparent, just to hide the many different pieces of wood. Groovy playing as well! Well done!!
Thanks. The reason I did a stain instead of paint is to save weight. The original paint on the Strat body weighed 5 ounces! So I could be saving up to half a pound by not painting the body, not to mention saving a ton of work.
This is awesome. Ive been considering building a headless version. Save even more weight. Basically my solo project is just like yours but sounds more like el ten eleven. I might just siffice with a 6 string bass tho
Mike Rutherford of Genesis had either done this or had it down with 2 Sherwood guitars 1 bass and 1 guitar....video's show it it's has actual bolts showing where it was joined.
Thanks! I should mention that I bought two of the cheapest Squiers they make. The guitar was about $250 and the bass was around $200. It turns out it was cheaper to buy complete instruments than to buy all the parts separately!
Beautiful work! Way more than just a simple cut and glue. Wondering how a white humbucker on the strat might look. Mirror image of the bass and maybe even yin yang vibes. For Q&A, how much did the actual amount of effort compare to your initial expectations?
Nope, no biscuits, just wood glue. I think I ran one side through a jointer first but the table saw cuts were very clean.

funny just yesterday i rewatched an episode from the first season of Mythbusters, where they test an ancient wood canon, and they happen to visit a place called The Crucible, in California. same ppl there in the end of the video? wild! great project!
Yup, same place. It's an incredible facility with glass blowing, welding, metal working, ceramics, wood, etc. Plus it's a non-profit and offers terrific classes (although I did this on my own): www.thecrucible.org/
Thanks, I worked hard on keeping the weight down. In fact, the double neck body weighs less than the original Strat body when both were empty and unpainted!
It's funny you say that. I would love to have an acoustic bass/guitar double neck and have thought about combining two of the entry-level Guild bodies. The problem is the necks are glued, and I'm not convinced I could build a body that would stand up to the string tension.
They are the stock Squier tuners from the Mini Precision Bass. They are smaller, lighter, and closer together than normal Fender bass tuners, which is another reason I chose that neck.
Yeah, it's a tradeoff. An angle between the necks makes tuning a little easier, but it makes it slower to jump your left hand between the necks during a song...
Thanks. When I play standing up the weight is OK but there is some neck dive. It's hard to avoid because the tuners are heavy and so far out. If I build another one I'll consider going headless which would balance better.
@@mojomusica.0169 You're right, that would work but it would also increase the total weight, which is more tiring. I may start by cutting down the 70s Strat headstock to a 60s shape.
Phil. from Dunkirk
@@danieljules If you say OK for you, so it's good for you. In my case I prefer to play with my Aria Pro II Super Twin ST1504. It's the Best Double Neck Hybrid of the World. Phil from Dunkirk 😉👍
Well done, now I’d like to see you make a Stratocaster/Thin Walled Acoustic Guitar doublneck so you can play both electric and acoustic guitar parts without having to switch guitars.
Check out my Q&A video where I answer your questions below: th-cam.com/video/Ob7ory7CPxE/w-d-xo.html
Finally someone did it right. I never understood in these guitar and bass doublenecks why they always put the bass as the top neck.
I always assumed it was for tuner clearance...guess it doesn't matter tho. I would have gone w/ 2-1-1 for that pure strat sound.
Maybe the other ones are made for bass players...
Hats off to you for properly documenting the whole process! This is some fine work my man. Sounds great too!

EXCRUCIATINGLY AWESOME YO! 💯
KUDOS ON THE BUILD!
Nice result. I’ve been pondering trying something like this.
I'd encourage you to go for it! I learned a lot by building it and it was very satisfying to play for the first time.
@@danieljules I wonder how difficult it would be with a couple inexpensive kits like those Leo Jaymz ones they have on Amazon?

Nice job.
cool , if you get a left handed bas neck you can probably tune it eazier (tuners on the bottom)
Yup, but unfortunately Squier doesn't make a lefty version of this bass...
u should do this with custom shops!
A pick holder would be nice for fingering the bass and playing with a pick on the guitar
Nice 👍
this is pretty awesome, it's not the worst sound either. great project for a tight budget
i think upgrading the pickups would improve the sound a lot , it has enough body to resonate
The new pickups are already ordered! :)

How about a double necked bass? One neck fretless, the other piccolo?
Nice, this double neck is still lighter than my plexi dan armstrong copy!
Thanks, I worked hard on keeping the weight down. In fact, the double neck body weighs less than the original Strat body when both were empty and unpainted!
now for the tripple neck
Exactly! Because if two is good, three must be better. :)
mini precision ? short scale in other words?
Yup, it's the Squier Mini Precision Bass (or it used to be!). The scale length is 28.6 inches.

I love the guitar and everything It really is nice but I'm sorry I have a question about your peddle board system What is the big one called?
The big one is the Headrush Looperboard. It's a four track looper plus four FX racks. It's discontinued now but still gets the job done.
@@danieljules wow ok thanks
What tuners did you put on the bass? Looks like Peavey Foundation tuners to me.
They are the stock Squier tuners from the Mini Precision Bass. They are smaller, lighter, and closer together than normal Fender bass tuners, which is another reason I chose that neck.
My only suggestion would be next time put a slight angle between the necks for better access.
Yeah, it's a tradeoff. An angle between the necks makes tuning a little easier, but it makes it slower to jump your left hand between the necks during a song...

Why does that Strat Body has a veneer on both sides, even though it's painted? O_o

Why didn't you find a couple of used Squires to build the double neck? Seems a waste to buy two new guitars and strip them down.
Should have gotten a left handed bass neck.
