    The fire glass actually serves some very important features. Aside from being "pretty", the fire glass helps to spread the gas after it comes out of the burner, which produces a fuller, more attractive flame. Additionally, the glass contributes greatly to the heat output of your fireplace. All in all, it is just a decorative item, but some people enjoy the finer things in life. Fire glass is one of those things.

    Actually, Natural Gas is a very important energy source for reducing pollution and keeping the Earth clean and healthy. In addition to being a domestically abundant and secure source of energy it is the cleanest of all fossil fuels. If more industries relied on Natural Gas as opposed to other fossil fuels, harmful pollution levels would decrease significantly.

    The glass can be reused. In fact, the glass we sell has a lifetime warranty and should never wear out under normal use.

  • @StarfireDirect
    @StarfireDirect  11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes, you can make s'mores or hot dogs on that. Beware that the food grease and melted marshmallow doesn't drip on the glass because that would make the glass dirty and would take away from the overall look of the fire glass.

    Absolutely stunning! Saw fire glass on Amazon for the first time recently. Too many negative reviews of bogus products there and found Starfire direct on-line. Definitely want to switch out my gas “logs” to fire glass in my fireplace for sure. My only concern would be what color to select!

  • @StarfireDirect

    The glass is not chemically treated. It goes through a tempering process which allows it to withstand the heat. Tempered glass is manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling, making it harder and more heat resistant than normal glass.

  • @bilalghouri
    @bilalghouri 9 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    so whats the point of this glass if we are burning natural gas anyway?

    • @druvirus
      @druvirus 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The glass works as a decorative way to squash the gas for a more even spreading distribution. That way you don't just have a rod shooting out gas and fire straight upward.

    • @StarfireDirect
      @StarfireDirect  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Bilal Ghouri Adding to what druvirus said, the glass makes the fire pit look much nicer. It also helps to increase the heat output of your fire pit, when compared to lava rock and gas logs.

      +Bilal Ghouri I've also heard that the glass retains a lot of heat, so you can turn off the gas after it's been heated up to temperature, and the heat that emanates off of the fire glass will persist to keep the area warm

    Not all burners are compatible with all fireplaces. As an example, some burners generate too much heat for prefab fireplaces. Also, non-vented fireplaces are illegal in most states. One last thing, I find that the light color glass (clear or white) can discolor with usage.

  • @StarfireDirect
    @StarfireDirect  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The cost to run your fireplace will depend on the size and BTU output of your burner. On average, a 70,000 BTU burner will cost $0.96 per hour.

    What chemicals are used to treat the glass so that it never experiences heat fatigue? I realize it's the gas source that is burning and not the glass. But, given that the glass had to be altered or made a specific way to maintain neutral composition in relation to the heat it endures, is it something added during creation from sand-to-glass, or is it a chemical coating added after construction of the glass is finished? THANK YOU! :)

    • @StarfireDirect

      Fire glass is an excellent heat conductor, meaning that the fire that transfers through the glass will heat the glass, and the glass will continue to radiate the heat into the room.

    Not a blue flame, so it isn't burning optimally which means either methane is getting away (reddish color) or the full chain of reactions isn't happening to reduce the reactants to the final products of CO2 + H2O. That means more CO and other radicals are being released. Or they are burning additives in the flame, so... again, the final products aren't just CO2 + H2O.

    I just purchased a rectangle fire pit and my owners manual says not to cover the burners with the fire glass. I see in your video that you have the burner covered by fire glass is this still okay to do?

    • @StarfireDirect
      @StarfireDirect  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sal,
      Many fire pits can work with fire glass without any issue, but they have to be designed to work with fire glass. Not all burners are made the same, and if non-compatible burners are used with fire glass, it can create soot, flame issues, or even cause gas to build up which can lead to explosion.
      The bottom line is this: if your owners manual says "no fire glass covering the burner", that's what we will always agree with. We take safety very seriously at Starfire Direct, and whatever the owners manual says is what we will suggest.
      The alternative is to purchase a different fire pit that works with fire glass. We have plenty of options in stock and ready to go!

    Lindsey...is it safe for an outdoor fire pit filled w/fireglass to get rained on or does it need to be covered to protect the gas mechanism underneath the fireglass?

    • @StarfireDirect
      @StarfireDirect  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lisa Platt Most gas fire pits are built for use outdoors. Sometimes the manufacturer of the fire pit requires that it is covered when not it use, and sometimes they do not. Refer to your owner's manual. If you built the fire pit yourself, I would err on the side of caution and cover it in the event of heavy rain. The fire glass is unaffected by rain.

    But as far as I remember burning gas always leaves some sticky substances (i have this problem in my kitchen and i can't get this off my cupboards) , so as well the fire glass can accumulate some of this substances on its surface and get the glass frosted then glued and dirty... It's not hygienic.

    • @mattahearn1428
      @mattahearn1428 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      but the gas burns above the glass, that residue is when the flame touches the cookware, you'll notice you never get that build up on the burner holes

    • @StarfireDirect
      @StarfireDirect  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrJpegi The sticky substance on your cupboards is the grease created from cooking food and is not being created by the burning gas. No "sticky substances" are left behind on the fire glass.

    So basically Venjirai is right, its just pretty.
    Because as far as I know there are an infinite amount of ways to efficiently distribute gas for a "fuller, more attractive flame".
    And you could do so with materials that have better thermal qualities that can either retain heat even after the fire is out, or maximize the heat lost while burning.
    This "finer" things in life is your sales pitch that appeal to narcissistic people, your customers.

    No. The fire glass should not be used for cooking. If you want to check out a fire pit that can be used for cooking, go to our website and search for the following fire pits: Venice, Riviera, Naples, Madrid.

    Hi, would fire glass be compatible with Bio Ethanol fireplaces?

      Jaime Campos You'll have to refer to the owner's manual of your fireplace. If it doesn't say, I would recommend contacting the manufacturer of your Bio Ethanol fireplace and ask them if the Fire Glass is compatible.

    If the doesn't smoke. Could I have a fire going in the middle of living room and not worry about it filling the room with smoke?

    • @StarfireDirect
      @StarfireDirect  9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      To answer your question, No. The fire glass does not produce any smoke because it's not actually burning. Remember, it's the burning of natural gas or propane that produces the flames. All natural gas or propane fireplaces/burners must be installed per the manufacturer's requirements. In most cases an indoor fireplace will require a proper chimney/vent. Please don't start a fire in the middle of your living room... you will hurt yourself.
