I'm the proud 2nd owner of a 259 with the freight set like yours. The set was my fathers who received it one Christmas morning in 1936. We set it up and ran the train every Christmas until he passed in 2016.
I recently bought one on ebay without tender. Hope it runs! Also, can you run these with more modern lionel transformers? I have a transformer that came with a set from the late 90s. I believe its 18v output at 3 amps
