  • Extremely happy to be re-vamping my book recommendation list, as well as exploring new genres and ideas. If I missed a book you feel like should belongs in this list, please comment!
    Reminder: These are my personal recommendations of books that I have read for one reason or another - if you disagree, or don't feel as though a book is good, that is OKAY! You do NOT have to read a book that I recommend, and if I feel as though some books are great for only one reason (The Black Arts is a good read for historic esoteric context, albeit relatively Christo-centric... past that I don't find it useful) I will do my best to be open and transparent about that.

    regarding your book: it is the first witchy book i bought hardcover and pre-ordered ever and i was so excited for it and it met all my expectations

      also i only ever used kindle or ebook format for witchy books and it was a revelation for my adhd ass that a physical book is a lot easier to finish in one sitting than a ebook.

    Hi Frankie! I just want to thank you for making all of this information accessible for beginners and other more experience practitioners. It's amazing to see all the people you've helped through your platform. I've been following you for a year, around the time you made the channel introduction and I'm so happy I found your channel because the content you make is incredible and provides a solid, bullshit free, base for novice witches to start off. I wish you the best in your new projects, and in your path, thank you for all you do.
    Happy holidays!!!

    I have the book of candle magic and its amazing. I couldn't believe just how much infirmation it contained. I'm used to buying these types of books that just contain little info and alot of spells. This book really brings home the information.

    I recently found your page etc and bought your book the other day. I find it hard to read for a long time, but I've read yours in two days which is practically unheard of from me! Although I've been practicing for a couple years now I still really enjoyed your book, it's beautifully written and I loved to read your perspective on certain things; including trying out new ways to do the 'basics'. You covered a good array of topics and explored them enough so as to not feel as if it was 'droning on' but you are also getting a good amount of knowledge at the same time. Thank you for the read! I hope to see another one from you in the future. :D

    I dont have anyone that can teach me about this sort of thing so I'm so glad I managed to get hold of a copy.

    Thanks for sharing this video with us Frankie! I haven't watched the first video yet, but you mentioned that there was an herbalism book that you had included in that list but took it out of this one because it was problematic. If you felt comfortable doing so, do you think you could do a video going over such books so that we could have a reference as to which ones to avoid or if you feel like it still has good information, we would be aware of them being problematic before reading them? If you feel like that wouldn't be a video you wouldn't be comfortable doing no worries. I can't wait to read your book when it comes out in April. Already have it pre-ordered.

    I tried to ask this on a TikTok live but it got too busy. Do you have any recommendations for books about similar subject matter to "Year Of The Witch" that aren't that book?
    I got it a couple months ago but returned it (along with two others, for similar reasonings). I liked Temperance on TH-cam before, but her book made me really uncomfortable. She basically says that pharmaceutical medicine can dull your natural magick/magickal connection to nature (when she discusses her history of being on BC), denies humans' effects on climate change, and there is at least one section that is very trans-exclusionary (when she says women menstruate and men don't). I'm a non-binary person that unfortunately does, but I am close to many people who would be affected and hurt by these statements. It's hard in general to find good witchy books that are trans-inclusive, but I digress.

    • @bojii2939
      @bojii2939 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just bought that book! I haven’t finished reading it but how did I, as a non-binary person, miss that 🤦

    • @bonnieequality
      @bonnieequality 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bojii2939 It's ok, I almost missed it too! After I received it in the mail, I got the strangest vibe just from holding it. I decided to double-check reviews for some reason, and I was gobsmacked. It just wasn't well-written or proofread either, IMO. My fiancé is trans, and we share our library (especially the witchy books). YOTW isn't something I would want him to read, and then potentially be hurt by. I knew I had to return it. I've had to return two other witchy books for similar reasoning.
      I'm much more excited about Frankie's book, however, since they are non-binary as well.
      A lot of the witches on YT/IG/etc. are all friends with each other. It's good to have a wide, diverse community, but... They don't really speak critically or from a neutral/unbiased about each others' work. This makes it harder to do research into which books/materials are good and at least very minimally problematic.

    • @bojii2939
      @bojii2939 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bonnieequality yeah besides all of that I was really disappointed by the making your own wheel section, since that was the whole reason I bought the book. I thought it was really lacking.

      @@bojii2939 That's why I bought the book too. A lot of reviews also said the section on the wheel was so small and full of easily-Googled info that there was no justification for it being labeled as a book about the wheel. I'm looking for better books about it, even if they're older.

      I've gotten some likes/notifications about this comment I left recently, so I wanted to come back and note some things. First of all, I still love Frankie's content (as of writing this comment). Seeing as they're also non-binary, I know they will at least understand my POV even if they disagree with it (which I expect that they will, since they're closer to TA than I initially realized), and they won't condescend to me or take it personally. I plan to check out Frankie's book as soon as I can. Unfortunately, however, the bristly and dismissive response I got to the same question (recently) from another creator (on their own book recommendation video) left me with a lot of fear and apprehension about bringing up this topic to anyone else in TA's circle. So, to be honest, I don't really want a response anymore, and I won't be asking the initial question I left to anyone else unless they are or can be unbiased. I'm leaving this comment up, however, so that others who might be negatively affected by the book (and TA's incredibly condescending attitude toward those who merely disagree with her book's content) will know what to expect ahead of time. They can make their own decisions about whether or not to purchase/read it at that point.
