Dude, this video can be TLDR'd to "I dont like Hooper". Man, enjoy the show. Thors deadlift was insane with how quick it came up and it was stupid of Hooper to get Arnold out of his seat but a long rant about sportsmanship? Come on now.
I mean everyone in his channel pretty much enjoyed him being a crowd pleaser. Guy literally won & its typically Canadian to just read the room and laugh it out of his system knowing it's not gonna work out. I've been to strongman shows down in Canada & everyone loves the happy vibe most of them showed when displaying the sport at a fair. Arnold himself has been an incredible showboat & loved to get people talking himself. He loved it, he doesn't need to be defended.
@pontus.andersson I meant Bromley going off on how Arnold was pulled from his seat for his comical flop. Mitch came out a winner & won the crowd. Funny enough I was reading your comment while Bromley ranted & realized "Damn he's still going on about this" when I looked back at the video having tuned it out halfway
The origins of strongman go back to performing circus tricks for the sole purpose of being a crowd pleaser, that’s why I don’t get how Hooper’s incident is being made into such a big deal. He absolutely crushed the competition.
The event order was so fkn dumb. How are you going to do event 4 with a 400lb press for reps, and then event 5 with another akward press after your delts are just totally taxed. Atlas stones to finish would of been way more fun to watch.
Yeah, I agree with that. They just should've had stone to shoulder for reps and been done with it. Would have been much more exciting and a better spectacle.
FYI, Mitch was responding to Arnold Schwarzenegger during the Stone Medley because the announcers gave him the microphone to yell "YOU CAN DO IT!". So, he was just responding to the crowd's energy. I was there in person watching it, I can tell you that the Announcers as well as Arnold interact with the athletes a lot more than you can hear on the Live Stream. It feels like a totally different show with the energy level. But regardless, the Stone Medley was definitely a Victory lap for the Moose. So he was just giving back to the crowd imo. Great commentary! You always make me laugh.
I like Hooper. I think he is trying to become as famous as possible and as quickly as possible to make the most money possible. I have no evidence to back it up, but given his life prior to strongman like running marathons and such is that he plans to shine as brightly as possible then retire from strongman early and on top. Just a my two cents on it. I do appreciate the lift heavy be kind motto though, and he apparently trains really hard and is really strong.
It's definitely not the sport to do for a long-time if someone wants to live a long life. I think Mitchell is hyper-aware of the price he is paying right now to be on top, and wants to get leaner and take less shit, but can't as long as he competes in strongman. Hence why he is going big now so he can go home and clean up later. Basically what Thor should have done, but is too stubborn to do.
As a polish fan, I follow Mateusz on socials etc. It seems that he is struggling with finding any outside help for the deadlift. He tried working with a few people lately, for example Krzysztof Wierzbicki (the guy with 502,5 kg sumo). And of course he lacks confidence.
If not Eddie, then someone from Shaw's team, or even Shaw himself could help him perhaps. I really hope he can somehow "Unlock" whatever is holding him back on the deadlift, because it always hurts him so much on every competition. I'm sure as strong and gifted as he is, with his frame, he should have a 951 or so deadlift in him with the right preparation and people to train him.
That brings its own problems because freak deadlifters cant relate to Mateusz' issues... they do 2 different things. Needs a coach who has worked with all kinds and understands the demands of strongman. Hard to find. If I was him, Id take 6 months off events and dedicate it to pulling
You could tell Thor still has a way to go with his recovery from his pec tear. His shoulder was not stable at all. I don't think the comp was as stacked as it was made out to be. I don't the the polish guy that wasn't mateusz should have been there. Tom Evans was not as good as some other guys that could have been there. Maxime is borderline. Also Hooper is fantastic but I don't think Tom Stoltman should be forgotten so quickly. He's an absolute unit and he has every attribute necessary to beat Hooper. I was surprised he did so well when Luke wasn't there. That is something that could have easily thrown him down into the dark.
Yeah Tom has been chipping away and now has arguebably one of the strongest overhead presses, having it previously been one of his weak spots. His deadlift will continue to increase into his 30s and when Tom is on point, Mitch wont win. The real issue is Mitch doesnt really fall back on any event, so you have to be very good all round to beat him. Like Martins was before he stepped out a bit.
@ashleygarvin7177 yeah I knew Tom was going to be a beast overhead the first year he took second at world's. He was the only person to lift every log in the medley on his side and there was some elite pressers on his side. On the apollon axel this comp his lifts went overhead quicker than cooper's did and hoop was trying to split jerk it. Tom's deadlift is elite. For his size he is really fast. I think this competition has been in his head and that's gone now. Tom was a close second at world's last year after taking a huge break. It is odd how little he is talked about or how no one favors him to win competitions.
@alik5972 he could hardly do any of the events. For a competition that is supposed to feature the most elite, he is far from there. Gavin Bilton, Luke Stoltman and many others were a far better choice.
@@CodyBunkerhe qualified as the Arnold Amatuer champion, he had every right to be there, It was a learning experience for him and he will improve with time.

Another thing that drives me mad is when people say that Thor has to break the DL record on a competition. They have the guts to call that clown show a competition. Eddie Hall decided the rest times, the weight jumps, the lifting order on a plataform tailored for him. After his lift, they interviewed him and made Jerry wait for more than 30 minutes to give him his chance! Than Jerry tries to pull and tear his hamstring. The disrespect to call that a competition when one of the competitors had power over the other competitors and the entire show is beyond disgusting. Eddie never lifted on a competition, that's false. Calling that a competition is the ultimate disrespect, especially towards Jerry. Thor's lift had calibrated and weighted lifts for the people to see and 15 minutes as set rest times. I cannot stress enough how Thor's lift not only was harder to perform because he didnt choose the rest times, but its a much more offical lift with offical parameters and rules. Not the clown fest that Eddie's Hall personal and close friend, business partner Coolin decided while screwing the rest of the "competitors". Not a competition, Eddie never lifted on a competition, it was a clownpetition. 🤡
What's scary about Thor is that his grip is actually better now than it was when he swept the majors. He's also faster. Who had him placing second in both the frame and the Webster stones? Once his pressing power returns, he's going to be an absolute force again!
It’s the Arnold! It’s supposed to be entertaining and not serious. Entertainment is keeping the game close. Hooper dominated when he didn’t have to but wanted too.

I totally agree with you about Hafthor's 501. Eddie whines about what Thor did to him in 2017 about the WSM title but Eddie did the exact same thing to Thor with this lift.
Hooper only has a quick rise to fame because all the other main characters basically all dropped out together. So they needed their new Hulk Hogan of strongman.
I watched this… what a waste of breath critique of Hooper. He looked at the crowd AFTER he’d broken the world record in the Dinnie. He got Arnold up at The Arnold Classic AFTER he’d secured his back to back victory. The crowd at the Arnold Classic like Arnold. It was a bit of fun. Big whoop.
I was in the crowd for the DL. Thor won the event with his second pull, so he passed on his third which would have been for the elephant bar WR. He addressed the crowd and said it was because he was focusing on winning the entire competition. Honestly the female DL was more interesting. Melissa Peacock, all 5'5" 185 pounds of her, deadlifted 601. Defending ASW champion Victoria Long blew her hammie up attempting the WR with her third attempt. Relative strongman newcomer Lucy Underdown broke the EB DL for women with a 662 pound lift. Lastly, Mark Henry was a co announcer for the event and he would. not. shut. up. The main announcer had to cut him off constantly to introduce each next lifter as they began their next attempt.
The women are finally getting the attention they deserve. Holy crap, the level is insane. Lucy's deadlift, Sam's dumbbell, and who saw Angelica Jardine coming? All her DL attempts were vastly sub-maximal, and the pure domination on the stone events was unreal. Way stronger than she knows.

I despise Mark Henry. For all of his legitimate claims and strength accolades, he is nowhere even NEAR as good as he THINKS he was, nor unbeatable. The man was an ox. I'm going to switch to boxing like Thor. I'm 36, weigh 210lbs at 5'10. Got a bench PR of 275lbs for 3 reps last month....I've been experiencing extreme systemic fatigue for over 2 weeks now. The training was 6 days week for 6 weeks leading up to the pr, but my sleep has been on average 5.5 hours a night. Trash. Anyway, I'm satisfied with the pr. I got it on camera so I won't feel that I need to prove myself to ppl in the future because I can just whip out the phone if I ever feel someone doesn't believe me. Because of this, I feel comfortable dropping the strength training and going purely into boxing for longevity.
I laughed at Mitch, he knew he had it in the bag. Had he just lifted the stone once, with no fan fare, nobody would be talking about, but look how he has everyone talking. I have noticed the people commenting with the 'cringe' word, are trying hard not like the Moose, but there is no way to deny him. He didn't win this event, he destroyed the field. I think he is smart enough to perform for the crowd, but also when to tuck in and do the business. He can dead lift more than he did, but he knew he didn't need to. Look at last year, never won a single event, but took the trophy. I do think it is fine that people have their own opinions. If we didn't differ at all, we would have nothing to talk about. Look forward to more 'coaching' content, but also break downs and opinions of events or breaking news in the game. - Cheers

I didn't see this until now but I agree with you, it was super awkward. Although Arnold was pretty cocky himself back in the day and did all sorts of little mischief.

Not everyone is involved enough to care about the metaethics of conduct and how it impacts community values on a broader scale. Some are tightly involved in team activities, coach serious athletes and mentor youths.... others go to the gym once in a while and touch themselves while watching the occassional lifting highlight reel. @@allmightybison5629 For sure, the event was great and I watched it Live but I'm not defending anyone so I dont get your point.
Mitch isn't NEARLY as bad as Evan in this area, lol.
Especially with Tom. The King of Atlas Stones for me. He is so good, and I love the combination of strength, speed and endurance.

Yeah that was golden 🤣 🤣
I wonder if he’s considered traveling abroad for some work. Eddie Hall was a phenomenal deadlifter, maybe someone from Eddie’s team could help him.
I remember that in some interview Big Z said that squats are best to improve everything so meaby Mateusz should focus on it if nothing else helps.
@@jhonkovalsky4769 he already has in the past and in an interview he said thats what Big Z told him, he squatted 370kg before the arnold that one year
People can have fun and show off while also being serious at the sport. What standards are we talking about here?
I appreciate the knowledge and insight, but can't lie the endless ranting is not for me...
Martins is ballsy and cerebral... He's cerebral ballsy!
Dad?
Bro climbed to the top of the stage just to be remembered as "the Polish guy that wasn't Mateusz"
Bromley's talking about VO2max of coal miners, but it seems he's just back from the salt mines :D
There's constructive criticism, then there's criticisms that come from an element of jealousy or stupidity.
Are you gonna make a 10 minute video ranting about Evan Singleton being a showman? lol
I would if he was a threat to the podium. Hes probably the worst offender
@@AlexanderBromley ouch xD
I don't follow the sport closely. This is actually the first time I've watched a competition start to finish. I didn't know any of the athletes names or backgrounds other than Thor, and even that only because my wife liked GoT and I ended up rewatching it with her. But, Singleton being a former WWE superstar kind of explains the "worst offender" but as far as showmanship goes. I thought most of it was pretty fun if I'm being honest. Though, I haven't gotten to Hooper's blooper yet. I do think watching it "live" will leave me feeling pretty cringe as this video did. I will say, I like how Thor has carried himself so far.
You spent 10 minutes ranting about a little thing Hooper did that you thought was cringe. Now that is cringe.
Haha Ill take flack for doing opinion pieces on my opinion-piece-youtube-channel over pulling a 76 year old man out of a chair to watch me lift. Your fan-boner is showing.
@@AlexanderBromley Well, I came here from a recommendation on TH-cam, I did not put in the effort to look into your channel and what it is about, I am simply interested in strongman content as I lift myself. My comment is an opinion piece as much as your video. As for being a fan, I don't consider myself a fan of anyone really. I do like Hooper, as I found him to be a likeable personality (online at least) after I noticed his existence when he won WSM . I am not, however, following him like I would imagine a fan would do.

Hooper is awesome he dominates from having great all round strength and conditioning. He is a great athlete.
This video seems like a lot of cope. Hooper absolutely dominated that contest and he’s probably not even at his peak yet.
Hooper is no. 1 no question. However if you can't see that the man is a giant douche, you have limited emotional intelligence.
@@willbradley3201weird seeing Bromley go on a cope rant for half the video because he "called the croud".
@@willbradley3201 That what I said too. Mitch didn't just win, 11.5 points...it wasn't even close. I though the 'Arnold' thing was funny. Mitch is strong, but like Arnie himself, a technician, that knows how use the mind, for himself and against his competitors
100% fair and accurate. Thanks for the laughs, brother. 😅
Its what Im here for. I appreciate you being a sport, congrats on the dominating run.
V02 Max of a Coal Miner..hoot !
Hooper: Lift Heavy, Be Kind
Bromley: F you and this is now a Sandow channel.
I actually approve of this summary.
Was it cringe what Mitch did, yeah, he knows that, he's a bright guy. Was it a big deal? No, he had already won, the rest was just (poor) showmanship... nothing to loose sleep over...
Oh man, I'm a fan of Mitch Hooper, but that was a ridiculously embarrassing note to end on. Bro, you just set two world records. Don't bring up Arnold to leave him hanging.
I think its more cringe that Singleton gets all amped with aggression and gets his back slapped just to no lift.
Lol I agree about Singleton.
You guys are all whiney puritans, stop getting your panties in a bunch over another man not acting exactly how you'd want them. Diversity of personality is great for sport.
The hate towards a Canadian fella is strong 😂 why tho ? He seems like cool guy
Is it that bad to get arnold on stage after he knows he has won, when arnold will come on the stage to congratulate him anyway?
that's like receiving a reward of congratulations vs making someone congratulate you
He didn't even make the lift, lol
I literally said yesterday "I hope Bromley covers the Arnolds" and holy shit did you not disappoint!
I love you Bromley, but the huge stink you made about Hooper calling Arnold to the stage and ultimately failing the last stone is such a redditor thing to complain about
For real. He knew he won. He had the right to triumph and show off a bit.
Nah. The lakers analogy is irrefutable
For real. Arnold built himself on showmanship, it was in no way dragging an old man out of a chair, it was treating him in kind ... Title if the video is about Thor, second half of the video was an unhinged rant against making a show a show.
@@OneDougUnderPar can you explain how getting Arnold to come watch you lift makes it a show. He already won, he wasnt going to beat Mateusz, there were no stakes, and the "showmanship" literally killed his psych, preventing him from doing it in the first place. Nah, I like Hooper but that was pretty cringe.
Yeah Thor is great but can we talk about Mitch Hopper? Absolutely smashed everyone!
Exactly! 11.5 points, it wan't even close. He also didn't max out on events. Crushed the Dinnie stones, but no doubt could have went further. He uses his brain as much as muscle.

HEY does the bend in the barbell atually help lifters as they are not actualy liffting ALL the weight until they are 1/4 way up when last plate lifts off?
When I saw Mitchell use the Clean & Jerk, you automatically came to my mind, I remember a video you did on shoulder strength and you dismissed the clean & jerk. But I think the jerk helped him use less energy than he would if he used a push press as it is easier.
Of course. The Jerk doesn't primarily rely on shoulder strength. Tom and Mateusz were essentially impressive on the axel
@@1vootman Yup, it becomes the sumo vs conventional of shoulder press, is just not the same thing, but sadly nothing has been done

I totally agree with you about Hafthor's 501. Eddie whines about what Thor did to him in 2017 about the WSM title but Eddie did the exact same thing to Thor with this lift.
You gotta be fair though, what Thor did to Eddie in 2017 was completely fucked and immature as hell, showed Thor's true character imo
Finally someone called out Hooper for that egotistical crap!
Hooper only has a quick rise to fame because all the other main characters basically all dropped out together. So they needed their new Hulk Hogan of strongman.
I remember when Barry Sanders just handed the ball back to the ref after scoring, like he had been there before. And we were no less entertained!!!!
"That's like the most redundant thing I've ever said."
I had to stop the video and calm down from laughing for a minute there.
Big whoop.
somehow it was half the video even
It was awesome seeing Martins out there
I was in the crowd for the DL.
@@espenstoro exactly her Stone movements were so impressive. She just hoisted that final stone to her shoulder like it was a bag of potatoes. Glad she won as she was so pure an surprised with herself. I despise Mark Henry. For all of his legitimate claims and strength accolades, he is nowhere even NEAR as good as he THINKS he was, nor unbeatable. The man was an ox. But there are several I would put ahead of his greatest at this point. By FAR his most impressive feat to me was that he was truly world class at all strength sports. My god hes arrogant and obnoxious though. Drug free my ass. And I'm NOT one of the "natty or not" buffoons speculating whether someone ever used or not. Could care less. Only care because of HIS piety and supreme arrogance

Thor's pressing is not back yet, he had surgery 10 months ago, so in both pressing event's he dropped points

That edit of Thor with short legs is amazing
Who pissed in your Cheerios bro?
- Cheers

Not everyone is involved enough to care about the metaethics of conduct and how it impacts community values on a broader scale. Some are tightly involved in team activities, coach serious athletes and mentor youths.... others go to the gym once in a while and touch themselves while watching the occassional lifting highlight reel. I never understood all the Eddie Hall fanboys trying to discredit Thor's deadlift. The thing was clearly official. Nothing against Eddie personally, but that lift counted and it's bad sportsmanship to bicker about it imo.
