Nothing to lose... I still remember we missed out on Caicedo.. we need young players who are hungry and their mentality can be shaped and moulded into becoming serial winners and fighters and not players that are happy to take the paycheck but not perform on the pitch
He was supposed to replace CR7. I loved Valencia, but a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, he was never going to be. He would be a brilliant Amorim player though, I agree with you on that!
You can get 20 players at Leon's price compared to 1 anthony. The club has been run by people who had no idea about talent and only bought players that were on football manager and names that would sell shirts.
Stephen, I recently placed flowers on the great George Best’s grave on his 19th anniversary of passing. I remember watching George at 17 and I knew very quickly that we had a striker. We need to develop the youth more at the academy and search the world for potential youth talent.
@ I’m too old! Anyway, I’ve been a United supporter a life time and I’ve seen them all. It’s so sad to see United slide down the league and out of the European top teams. However, I’ve seen that before and will always keep the faith!
Hey Stephen, great video. I’m a Paraguayan-American and also a Cerro Porteño so I’ve been following him for quite some time. Super excited about this move. Very physical and raw, quick with the ball is able to pick out a pass that I think he will get better with time. Hopefully Manchester United have a great plan for him! 🇵🇾🇵🇾🇵🇾
Yes they’ve been great so far. Beat Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela at home and drew Uruguay, Ecuador & Bolivia away in qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Unbeaten since the Copa America under new manager Gustavo Alfaro, looks like they’re going to qualify for thsir first World Cup in 16 years In terms of him being called up, we have to wait and see. He’s still so young and Alfaro is really picky with his players.
Focusing on young talent like Diego Leon from Paraguay shows a smart and forward-thinking approach by Manchester United. Building a team isn’t just about spending big; it’s about identifying players with potential who can grow and contribute to the club’s future. This strategy creates a stronger foundation and avoids the chaos that often comes with reckless, high-cost transfers. True success comes from balance-combining experienced leaders with young, hungry players who fit the club’s long-term vision. It’s not just about what a player can do now but what they can become with the right coaching and environment. If United stays patient and strategic, this approach could bring lasting success, not just quick fixes.

Leon seems to also be one footed. Seen him use his right foot once in a 9 min tape. Tried to play a ball over the top down the line and it went out for a throw in. Not super worried about it as Amorims left mid is meant to be a traditional left footed player playing balls down the line or putting crosses into the box.
@johnarrington1164 exactly what I thought when I watched his video highlights, dribbling with the outside of his left instead of using his right is a dead giveaway. He looks more one footed than Antony, running around the ball rather than using his right foot. I can't understand the high fee, do these scouts get paid?
Also increasingly bottled taking players on, which was just weird given his first touch and pace was so good. Part of the reason he ended up at right-back.
Watched this and thought remember how for the last few years of Valencia’s career we were giving him absolute pelters. Constant criticism day in day out (I don’t mean Ste specifically here by the way). I reckon that in a nutshell can also be applied to the latter Ferguson years. We were unhappy with so many things but really, we were living a life of constantly winning trophies, competed in upper reaches of UCL etc. I was watching Ste’s other vid on the bad start of INEOS and thinking damn, this club might have a few decades in the wilderness and things are only gonna get worse for our club profile before they get better. I hope I am wrong. Hopefully signing like this guy show we have what it takes to get back to the top. But it seems an incredibly hard challenge. Great vid as usual Ste, your hard work and timing is superb as usual. Up the reds ❤
Just watched some clips on TH-cam. He looks like a cross between Patrice and Tony Valencia. Obviously highlights always look good but he does look like an exciting prospect.
He's way more skilful than both. Plus Valencia would come up against the left back in the final third and often bottle it. This kid looks like he can go inside or out. Again, only judging from highlights.
Imagine if when his management picks up on this, they start to get him English lessons and plan a way of helping him assimilating to the general European culture before his gets here so he hits the ground running
@90sBaller That was two years ago! Nobody knew how Antony would turn out in Manchester United. Not even you. I for one are interested in who Manchester United are looking at signing and are greateful for these videos.
@90sBaller ..and Im probably older than you, but I didnt stop the time in the 90's like so many other fans. Greatefull to be able to experience our former stars, but still hoping for more
@90sBalleryou can’t expect him to be right 100% or of the time and why are you even here if you didn’t want to see his opinion because you obviously are here for it.
The club target is 2028 to challenge for the title. Sir JR have already said that INEOS will NOT buy Stars from other clubs when they already costly but will look for “unknown” players and developed them to be stars at United and later sell for profit. United will be a selling club and by they look of it have already brought in a few into the academy Chido Martin et all. And in Amorin they have a coach who have the ability to develop young players to be better at Sporting eg 17 year old Quenda who is now worth €40-50 million. So no point to get him nor Gocheres who improved under Omarim. Simply by directing his players to pass the ball to the striker. It will take a while, so fans need to be patient. The media will not, nor the pundits. Old boys included
Let's hope it works out. This proves that Harry Amas isn't what he's hyped up to be and I seen that in the summer preseason, even though he is technically secure, he is lacking physically and underwhelming defensively. This kid Diego Leon however is already built like a tank, runs like a train and good technically. This is the type of ''young'' signing I can get behind. Too many times in recent yrs have we let bang average players come through like a Rashford or an overseas signing like Garnacho who are both all PR and no brains nor have ability that is worthy of being called a Man Utd player.
Ste doing understatements? Shock. 😂 I do think we can go for good players, period. And then figure out what position suits them best. We don’t know if Amorim survives 2 months. We can’t buy for him. We have to buy for the club. Wingers can be backs, backs can be wingers. We’ll see.
Based on the market the way it is now you’re rarely gonna find a player like Mazraoui who you can pick up for 15-20 million who can be first choice player. Even players who are being priced at 50 million sometimes feel like gambles. I’d rather sign 10 unknowns for 2-5 million than stick 30 on someone with a bit of rep from a lesser league who could prove to be a complete waste.
Howson, I remember your scouting of Retegui and wish we had got him for peanuts instead of Rasmus! Hopefully Leon is an upgrade on Dalot and Malacia! Kid plays like he needs a challenge!
I think he will be great partnered with Licha, He already has the raw pace and physicality and training with Licha with help develop the aggression...Imagine in a couple of season's time we have these two South Americans on the left side of defense (Leon LWB and Licha LCB)
South American football is very intense. Not necessarily physical but they try to kill the other team at times and you have to be resilient to play that kinda football
Great video Ste. Hopefully we’ll swoop him up and develop him right. Rather do that for 3.1 million than paying 50,60,70,80 million years from now and find out he’s no suited for the premier league. 3.1 million is a good price, and if it’s works great. If not, sell and move on.,
I’d argue why it would take us any longer to mold these youngsters compared to the so called ready made senior players we buy at ridiculous prices. How will he cope mentally at United’s media circus

I think he will be a LWB hopefully Amass can kick on too then we can sell Malacia and Shaw. Goodwill has been promoted as a LCB back up Martinez we need a De Ligt back up , I'm ok with Maz and Yoro on RCB . Dalot RWB and get a new RWB.

All for signing promising young players, but I'm still pissed off that we sold Alvaro Fernandez for just 5m when Leon will cost around 4m.
We're the least physical team in the league,we need to sort that out ASAP.
One big advantage of having a Portuguese coach is probably the knowledge and link to Portuguese and south American players
From highlights, looks like a somewhat less elegant, more defensive Denilson, and a great prospect for LWB.
Physically he reminds me of Luke Shaw, and he's still very young so he has more room to grow
