I cannot wait to get my hands on this camera! I've been in the market for a "truly pocketable" camera that's not a cell phone for along time, and none of the ones released in the last 3-4 years appealed to me. The D-Lux 7, Sony RX1R II, and Sony RX100 VIII were my finalists until Leica announced this one. Did more research, and I hard-landed on getting this. I'm definitely excited for this one!
Hi Gino, there are some distinct differences between the cameras you are looking at. The closest match to the D-Lux would be the Sony RX-100 series, especially the earlier models with a zoom lens up to 75mm focal length. The RX1 on the other hand is a completely different animal. It is full format, has stunning picture quality as the sensor is perfectly matching the Zeiss optics, but it is bigger and does not zoom. I own these two cameras and while the RX100 is a very compact and solid performer, the D-Lux 8 looks tempting. Both are point-and-shoot while the RX1 could as well be used by pros in specific situations. Hope this helps a bit with your decision.
@@ilduro2 Thanks for this ilduro2. I wanted to come back and let you know that I was able to catch a D-Lux 8 in stock and made my purchase 2 weeks ago. It's been a fun camera to use as an EDC. It's been great not having to bring my more serious gear with me all the time, and not needing to resort to using my phone's camera. For the RX cameras, I may pick them up at some point to add to my personal "tech museum" as my once in a while shooters. Again, thanks for the explanation you provided! 📸
I often wonder why people feel the need to post unhelpful negative comments, usually based on nothing but prejudice. What’s missing from all of them is how the photographer feels about using the camera. Some are well-specified but clinical and uninviting. Others are fine in some situations but not others. This looks to me like a useful lightweight travel camera, and even though it’s based on the Panasonic LX100, Leica has moved it in its own direction, both ergonomically and in terms of developed image. And Panasonic aren’t selling the LX100 anymore. Comparisons with phone cameras and full-frame ILCs just miss the point, and so do those who use them to snipe.
Hi, thanks for your overview of the Lux8. I've one problem. The camera is set as I want it but after power off some of the settings revert to default. eg. DNG reverts to DNG/JPG. I'd be grateful for your help.
I don't believe there's any way to force the D-LUX 8 to power ON/return to the previous focal length used after turning the camera back on from, e.g., 40mm EFL. Bummer! Do you know any solution for this? Sony and Olympus cameras have had this feature for years.
Leica Store - Nothing! When I receive notice from them, if I am not on the site within 5 seconds, it is gone. But: Yesterday I searched for the camera on Google and found a small store in the North of Germany near the Durch border. It will arrive tomorrow 🙂
@@alexbenstead5922 I bought an RX100iii for around $350 just a few weeks ago. Even though I am very tempted, I am debating whether I should pay so much more for the D-Lux. The Sony has a flip-out screen and ND-Filter while the Leica is just a more solid camera all around.
I can imagine this being a fabulous P O K , for like holiday stuff in an incredibly topographic country such as Montenegro , am NOT being churlish ( busting a gut to justify getting one !) but so many reviews depict its use in a street shoot scenario, as a pretty seasoned techy in this field , even with really discreet machine which this is, soon as you stop to faff with a motorised zoom , you draw attention and loose the spontaneity, and, might get some annoyed looks , so for that reason "IM OUT"
even on video we can see quality of photo, it is garbage :((, smartphones can get better results... and lumix s9 just destroying this overpriced leica... micro 4/3 is dead
I'm using Xiaomi 14 ultra and must confess that at many situation, the phone beats the M43 compact camera. But camera gets better at Portrait due to the sensor size and aperture lens.
Just this minute ordered mine . Roll on Monday . Love the video many thanks
What a nice review. I’m looking forward to getting my D lux 8

Nice video, but how prone to dust sucking is it compared to LX 100 II?
That’s my question too!
i agree, will it get dust inside that one can't get out
Did you take any videos ? Does it have ibis which is essential for videos?
can you share raw files?
wandering focus point was also an issue with the CL; too easy to accidentally change - it needs a lock.
Dankeschön. That is a great review! Thanks for sharing!
Six months waiting list for one in the U.K.

Find your way of presenting entertaining. Thank you. I’ll pass on this camera though. I think 😮.
Thank you for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed the video
17mp in 2024?!

La qualità delle foto è molto bassa, sembrano scattate con lo smartphone 😅
Dann bleibe doch bitte beim Telefon du Narr
There is a thing called aperture, which you might have forgotten, hece shooting everything wide open 😅

Einen Vorteil hat ein Telefon der Kamera gegenüber, die Leica kann nicht Anrufen. Ein Telefon kann aber keine guten Fotos.
