    Thank you so much. I'm just starting with Groove Agent 5 and your video is extremely helpful. I don't get the instrument name bug you mention. When I change kits the pattern's instrument names change correctly to reflect the new kit. I look forward to checking your other videos. Lovely feel to your tune.

      Hi, and thanks for your support!
      I'm jealous of your bug-free interface ;)
      Groove Agent is quite near the top of my list of complete tutorial series to do - so please bear with me, I'll get there... so many VSTs... :)

      I've literally just upgraded from SE5 so maybe there's been a minor version change. I am a bit concerned the quality of real drum sounds may not be up to. The djembes seem rubbish desoit Colliding World's being generally v good. . Steinberg seem to concentrate on quantity of sounds and features.

    Hi Anthony,
    I'm enjoying your series of videos...thanks for all of your time that I know it must take you to film and edit.
    That's an interesting bug in the pattern pad sample names...I'm afraid that I don't have an answer, but if I come across one I'll be sure to post it here! Strange stuff happens in drum maps in Cubase from time to time too.
    I do have another interesting and slightly annoying bug in GA5 though... 9 of my 15 content set icons don't display correctly. The six that I can see are only half their actual size, but the rest are hidden. I can hover over the slots and the name appears in a text bubble, but this is frustrating, as one of the missing ones is 'All instrument sets', which is quite a useful icon!
    Don't worry if you don't have an answer, but have you any ideas?
    Cheers!

      Hi, and thanks for your kind words. No, I'm sorry, I've never encountered that particular problem. The normal response you'll get from Steinberg to queries such as this is to make a backup of your c:\users\\AppData\Roaming\Steinberg\Cubase xxxx folder, which is where all the config data for your application lives, rename it (add an "x" to the folder name or whatever), then load Cubase to see if the behaviour persists. You can always move the config folder back later (Cubase auto-generates a set of defaults if the folder's not there at all), and everything will be back to normal. I'd advise browsing the Steinberg forums before messing with your settings, but at least it's a line of enquiry for you to pursue. There are also Groove Agent config folders in the same ..\Steinberg folder. Have a dig round, see what's in there.

    Regarding the bug at the beginning of the video - You should open a ticket on Steinberg site and post a link to this video. If we do not report the bugs, we need to live with them. Thanks for the tips!

      It comes down to my emotional fortitude. Raising support tickets with Steinberg costs slices of soul... ;)

      @@OneManAndHisSongs They (Steinberg) want to make it better. If you do not report the bugs, it means that you do not help them and they are not aware of its presence! Less bugs, more productive we become.

      @@OneManAndHisSongs I want to buy the Absolute 4 suite. I am between Absolute 4 and Komplete 13. I want to have the full version of all the Steinberg synths, samplers, libraries ... But something is keeping me from buying it. Every time I am using GA SE, the chord pads, the chord track. I find bugs that ... destroy my workflow and i shut everything down and leave ... I am reporting the bugs on the Steinberg support site, but I get no answer and after a while my requests are deleted. And this in itself it is disturbing. I never talked harsh nor used mean words. Their lack of interest in their clients leaves me speechless. They should be happy that we are reporting bugs and make suggestions that would raise their products' productivity and success. But instead they simply ignore the support site... That's why I asked for your help and suggested to you to report the bugs. Maybe if there are more people reporting the problems, they will start to listen and try to fix the problems.
      Thanks!

      I can't offer you much comfort I'm afraid. I do love Cubase, and don't regret my decision to go all-in, but every interaction I've had with Customer Support has been bad. They have always responded to issues I've raised (so far), but rarely with any useful information. Their stock solution is to uninstall and reinstall from scratch (which is obviously ridiculous). It would be disingenuous of me to say otherwise - but on the whole I actually find Cubase to be pretty stable these days. It's a decision only you can make... it's a lot of money. (As an aside, Komplete gets a 100% recommendation from me. Incredible.)

    Do you have a video that shows how to add midi patterns to groove agent? Like I've created a midi pattern and I want it to trigger from a groove agent button. Or be able to open the kit and drag the pattern into my track for easy track creation? Again what I'm looking for is adding midi parts to the pattern buttons.

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Not explicitly I don't think (it was a very long series and I can't remember everything I covered!), but it's super easy. Just browse to the midi file from the browser tab in Groove Agent and drag it onto an empty pattern pad . In episode 4 I do discuss note mapping, which you'll probably need to do, or build a custom kit for the sounds in your groove.

    I think this might be a great video, but for people like me, who are old and not too tech savvy, wow, do you go fast! Is there any way you could do a slower video? I hate to use the phrase, "dumbed down", but that's what I'm looking for. I have absolutely no idea how this thing works and I've never used a drum machine before. I have been recording with Cubase for close to a decade but I've always just finder drummed the parts on a pad. I decided that it's time to get a handle on the whole pattern thing. The kicker is, I don't even know how to start, let alone where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a rock musician and I'm trying to get some good solid grooves with fills happening in various styles, feels and tempos. Thanks for your work!

      Groove Agent is, by nature, a difficult and complex tool. If you really want to explore it (enormous) power, I've made a detailed series, covering every aspect in detail. th-cam.com/play/PL3P42Av427hwyh0YS1hxLvitPMGr_T5bo.html Hopefully that's at a better pace for you. I do intend to make a "beginners" series too, but haven't started it yet.

    Hi Can we change a sound used in pattern? ? I'll throw a rhythm that I like with groove agent on the song ...The melody from the bottom is not suitable for my song..can it be equalized?? thanks a lot for the video

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it's a Beat Agent kit you're using, any of the sounds can be replaced simply by dragging a new instrument sound onto the instrument pad you want to change. Acoustic Kits are different - they use the drum sounds that come with that kit.
      Each instrument sound, if it has a melody, is basically just a sample. You can replace it with any other melody line or sample you have on your system, but you don't really have very fine control from within the Groove Agent interface itself.
      I'm intending to do a full Groove Agent tutorial series soon - hopefully that will give you the answers you're looking for :)

    Do you have to upgrade to cubase artist to create own patterns or also ugprade groove agent se to the full version ?

      I'm sorry but I only use the full versions of each of the products so I'm not well positioned to help with version queries. There are lots of comparison charts available on the Steinberg site, though, to help you to decide which version best suits your needs.

    Hi, hope you are well. Can you get the patterns to play in different time signatures. For example 3/4 or are all the grooves and patterns set at 4/4. Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Thanks for sharing your videos.

    • @OneManAndHisSongs
      @OneManAndHisSongs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know of a way to do it with Acoustic Agent grooves, since the Styles are intrinsically time sig based, but with Beat Agent grooves you can go to Edit/Agent/Midi and set the duration of the beat to a multiple of your time sig (e.g. Set the Start to 1 and the End to 3 - this will turn the pattern into a 3 beat pattern.)
      My next VST tutorial series is going to be a complete examination of Groove Agent, so it's possible I'll find another method when I do a full dive, but it looks like options for syncing with time sig are limited.
      (I know this isn't the question you asked, but you can filter programs by time sig when loading them, so you could just load beats that are already in the right signature. It limits your options, but at least it's something!)
