Props to the player for skill but I'm having a hard time in seeing how this is a good speedrunning game. Could just be a me thing.
vidsWsuds That's how most speedruns work... You can't work by the game's rules if you want to get a good time. The more you can "miss" of the game, the better
@@vidswsuds4879 Hes using a lot of strategies, thats why it is a good game for speedrunning. Most games rely on how fast you can do one thing to get the better time, but this one relies on the way you do things and how you use the mechanics the game has to your advantage. And also, they are the most surprising ones, because without any bugs or glitches, just with skill, they reduce to 2 minutes what an hour long mission is.
@@vidswsuds4879 i think it's absolutely not missing how the game is supposed to be played. I just finished the first mission and immediately realized the potential "abuse" of the mechanics. lol, it really looks like he disappears but if you look closely he is just crouching behind/inside the guard to pick up the shuriken and he also got deselected so there is no blue outline anymore. A bit later you can see his head and then his full body.
Amazing speed run! Dear 1Vader there's one trick which could make your speed run even faster. Just get the keg approach to the gates and throw it from there it just has to be in the yellow zone and you can blow it.
I know....... At least 50 other people already suggested this in the comments and I've known about it myself even before then from other speedrunners and used it in my last run of that level. But glad you like it anyway.

Do you know that you can throw the barrel directly from the corner where the two guards are standing just barely into the top right corner of the yellow zone ?
Is it even possible to do it like this on PS4? As far as I know there aren't any hotkeys on that version. Every time I want to switch characters or weapons have to open a menu. In this video it looks almost like you're using every character at the same time. I can't even tell when you're switching between them.
Pc master race man... of course he had to spend hours prior to this installing and running an anti virus, formatting his computer, adjusting and checking his graphic settings and all of that master racey stuff
How do you control all characters at once? Aiming with Takuma while Mugen is running over to pick up the barrel, or Mugen and Hayato running together etc. Is it a mod or is this just how the game works on PC (I'm on PS4)?
This is just how the game works on PC (or rather when using keyboard and mouse). You just click to a point and the character will go there by itself. And you can quickly switch between characters using hotkeys and select multiple characters by right-click dragging or holding Ctrl. But you can also select multiple characters with a controller if you use the character wheel. Thuogh ofc you can only move them together and not do multiple different things at once. This is the main reason controller speedruns are not at all competitive in this game and arguably the game is also a decent bit harder with a controller, though if you're going slow it's not much of a problem.
@@1vader Thanks for the info! I started playing it just a couple of days ago so I'm still in the process of both getting gud and learning the finer nuances of the mechanics. Yes, it doesn't count. Or well, rather, saving doesn't matter but loading won't reset the time. What counts is the time shown on the stats screen at the end.
I don't think I did. You can't tell which badges I got in this run though. The final screen shows all badges I ever got and in the demo back then, it didn't indicate which ones were from this run yet.
I have an Nvidia graphics card so I can use Shadow Play to record the game which works perfectly. But I also noticed it didn't work very well with other recording software. As far as I know Shadow Play captures the image somehow directly from the graphics card, so that might be why it works. But it might also be something different and I also didn't try many other programs.
Been trying for the 11:00 medal and doing this and I somehow end up about 4 seconds behind on the first guard and get caught trying to drop and surf his viewcone.
You have to time how long you watch the cutscene at the beginning before you skip it. If you skip it too early or too late the guard will turn around at a different point in their looking cycle and will look directly at you. If wait about as long as I do it bugs out a bit and the guard looks to the side for way too long. Same thing ofc if you take longer in the climbing part. I'm not sure of the exact window you have but to be honest this only safes a few seconds at best and 11 minutes is more than enough time for this level if you just do it slowly as long as you don't make any mistakes. Usually the biggest time loss is reloading and obviously thinking and observing which shouldn't take very long if you played the level a few times.
Cool. Downright breaking the AI at places, showing how derpy it can be, but cool. I still don't know if going through the section before the cutscene with meeting the old guy is doable legit. I tried for ages and couldn't do it. Didn't see any onboarding about how to use doors or about dropping stuff on the guards' heads with shots either. Other than that, I ragequit: I'm new to this. I played on normal... on the very first level... and it's like, zero sum, do it like this or get fked kind of gameplay... and even the figuring out part isn't fun because it's less like stealth and more like a tight-ass puzzle game, and you're just savescumming every 0.3 secs. Some asinine shit goin on, really: Spent about 20 mins on a room trying to clear it, didn't work because lets have ALL the guards cover ALL the guards and infinitely spawning guards from a building. When you kill one, it just gets replaced, good fkin idea! After that I just said fk it and stormed the door, turns out opening the door triggers a cutscene and resets the entire level and everyone I pissed off just magically forgets what happened and I'm back to a clean slate... my ninja even got his shuriken back that I left on the ground before the trigger... it's so dumb and arbitrary. This is like all the bad things about stealth/puzzle games without any of the good things. I think it throws WAY too much shit at the player this early. Oh well, my backlog list is long, might get back to it once I "got gud". :P But as of now, I'm really disappointed and highly annoyed.
It's definitely possible to do that part legit. Pretty sure most people do it properly the first time since you usually wouldn't know this works. If you search for some normal Let's Plays on TH-cam, there should be plenty showing the idea. Although I guess most blind LPs are pretty bad and take ages to figure stuff out but I'm sure there are some simple walkthroughs as well. For the most part, you can simply pick off guards one by one at the right moment (or I guess two/three at once using abilities and both characters). I guess the last part with the strawhats before the door is a bit tricky but you can still just kill all the other guards first (lure the guy walking back and forth using the Mugen's sake bottle) and then sneak around the sides to kill them both at once. Maybe use a well-timed stone throw to distract them for a second and get into the bush next to them. > Didn't see any onboarding about how to use doors or about dropping stuff on the guards' heads with shots either. Not sure what you mean with the doors but for the other thing, pretty sure the old guy mentions it during a dialogue at some point and iirc it also shows up as a hint in the menu at the bottom right which starts glowing annoyingly as soon as anything new shows up in there. It's also kinda obvious if you have highlights enabled. But tbh it's also not really required. It's actually even possible to do the whole level without killing anybody, triggering any alarms, and touching any bushes at the same time. Just doing it without using the dropping stuff is rather simple. But yeah, the alarm mechanics are definitely not yet perfect in this game and the cutscene resets are quite weird. Desperados 3 definitely improved on those aspects. Though I think there also aren't many similar cutscenes in later Shadow Tactics levels. I can only recall two other similar cutscenes. Not sure what you mean with infinitely respawning guards though. As long as you avoid the alarm, this shouldn't happen. And honestly, "all guards covering each other" is pretty laughable in this level. This only really starts happening in later levels and that's exactly what your abilities are for. It certainly plays a lot like a puzzle-game but honestly, that's exactly what makes it fun to me. Actually, I'd say pretty much all good steath games are this way. The only exceptions are maybe games like certain parts of Assassin's Creed where you can mostly do whatever and it pretty much always works out one way or another. And I guess if you inherently have something against saving and reloading you probably also won't like this game. Quickreload is pretty much an essential part of this genre and all the old games like Desperados, Commandos, and Robin Hood had it. It's what allows you to experiment freely, try out random fun ideas and fail often without things getting too frustrating. Some people seem to think it makes things too easy or it's cheating and I guess for the most part it does pretty much ensure that you will beat a level eventually but I'd argue that's true for most games one way or another and as your example clearly shows, it's still not really that simple. Completing levels without reloading can be a fun challenge but you definitely need a lot of patience, a high frust-tolerance and at least a decent amount of skill and/or experience for that. It's not really how the game is intended to be played.
Yeah ^^ I think I had over 10 hours in the demo, maybe even more like 20 although I also played the second map quite a bit after I realized that you can actually do it quite comfortably in the 10 minutes that you got.

What do you mean? The badges are combined from all playthroughs. Also, as you can see from the upload time and the main menu, this run was made in the demo before the game was even released. It looks like the demo didn't yet have the yellow dots to show which badges you got in this playthrough. But they are pretty bugged anyways. Here is a newer and much faster run and you can see that it doesn't mark the hardcore badge even though it says the level was done on hardcore: th-cam.com/video/dXZ2rx91uB0/w-d-xo.html
@@1vader yeah, I thought u did all the badges in one go, so it didn't make sense. Anyway, great run indeed.
