      Hey Ben, what do you think about using engaged shoppers as a detail targeting to funnel those targeting terms? So, for example Soccer Socks Narrow Audience Must Include Engaged Shoppers.

      I usually steer clear of engaged shoppers. Yes there are advantages to targeting them but they are also more expensive to reach. Unless you are advertising products that are bought by people that traditionally love to shop (apparel, jewelry, etc.) I think it's best not to.

    Hey Ben, I would like you say you are the real deal. I have been running Facebook campaigns and shopify for over 3 years and have done pretty well on my own until about a month ago, the campaigns all declined in performance probably due to new IOS updates. I was barely breaking even. So I scoured youtube for advise and found one of your older videos on CBO strategy and implemented them into my campaigns, and bam! Back into profits territory and I would say even better performance than before this whole IOS fiasco. I would like to personally thank you as I was really close to giving up on Facebook ads! You're a life saver!

    Here is something I've always been confused about....when you select more and more "interests" under detailed targeting...if you select more than one does that indicate that the audience meets ALL of the interests you select or at least one? I suspect it's "at least one" but what if I want to target only soccer moms who ALSO like Ronaldo? how would I do that? I thought FB allowed you to be super targeted like that and now it appears they have done away with it.

    • @abXtraKt
      @abXtraKt 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Go in the video to 12:55 and pause the screen.
      If you select more than one interest than it means that they have to be in at least one of those groups (or in other words they have to have at leasat one of those interests).
      Look at the video now. Next to the exclude button to the right there is the "Narrow audience" button. That is what you can use to add the condition that you want the above group to also have.

    How in the world does Facebook know if someone is a "soccer mom?" It seems like that would not be a precise category. I highly doubt they filled out that they were a soccer mom on their profile or that they "liked" a page called soccer mom. It's important to me to know how they are determining these interests since that would determine if I think they are a valid target.

    Should I use CBO for testing each interest or is it better to do it at ad sets level? I've seen that CBO often prioritize broader audiences no matter it's quality. But I'm a little worried that I may burn money if I do it at ad set level.
    I hope you can answer me soon, thank you for your work, I'm a big fan of you Ben

    • @BenHeath
      @BenHeath  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes we usually use CBO for testing different targeting options. In my experience Facebook does tend to favor larger audiences but only if they are likely to produce better results - which they often do. If for example, you include a warm audience ad set in your CBO campaign, that will get some budget even though it will be a much smaller audience.
      Hope that helps :)

    Hi Ben, great informative videos you have, just learning Facebook Ads myself, Does audience size matter more if you have a limited budget, should I be looking for more the 250k to 500k size to those in millions with a small buget to spend on ads?

    Thanks Ben - Fantastic as always! I am following your advice of testing, however, most of my conversion data is not displaying on audience ad sets I am testing, due to ios 14.
    How do you gauge if an adset is successful or not with less than 50% of the data showing through... CPC? or something similar? Thanks again Ben.

    • @BenHeath
      @BenHeath  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Johnnie, thanks a lot. The best way is to work out an average discrepancy rate - 50% for example. And that factor that into your numbers. So if one ad set displays a $20 cost per purchase then it's actually $10 (or close to). That way you can still use cost per conversion to optimise.

      Hi Gabrielle, I haven't been through this exercise in that industry recently I'm afraid so don't have any to hand. I think targeting people interested in those brands is a good place to start. Hi Ben, when testing interest you mentioned having a different interest in each ad set and having up to 5 ad sets running at anyone time.
    With this new IOS update doesn't that stop tracking where our customers are coming from? which also stops telling us which interests/ad set actually worked?
    So that means we have to target each interest one at a time? I.e 1 campaign, 1 ad set with interest and then 3 to 5 ads. Run that for a few days and see if you get conversions. If you do, save that interest, then move onto another interest and test that for a few days etc. Then once you have a few put them into a CBO

    • @BenHeath
      @BenHeath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Josh, good question but you aren't quite right. iOS 14 makes it means we can't see which ad set some customers are coming from but not all or even the majority. We still receive data for all non-iOS users, and all iOS users that haven't opted out. And we even have some visibility over iOS users that have opted out (provided you are optimizing for your highest priority web event.
      So while the data you see may be underreported we can still assess relative performance quite accurately and optimise campaigns accordingly. You will still see which ad sets produce the lowest cost per conversion - hopefully that makes sense.
      Testing each targeting option individually would work and you can do so if you want greater accuracy. But it will also take a lot longer.

    Or are you actually seeing better performances with detailed targeting ?

      @@BenHeath So what exactly account age, product or service has to do with Targeting? I am spending nearly $350.000 a month on just Facebook ads alone and never noticed just one of the claims you’ve made. Facebook literally got rid of the insight tool, because it doesn’t serve any fundamental purpose and is outsmarted by their AI by far.
      It literally is just to nudge Facebook into an approximate direction. You can single interest target on a 20-300 million audience and Facebook does it all for you, with very minimal input from sides of the advertiser.

    • @BenHeath
      @BenHeath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a bit confused by your comment. Are you saying you don't think the product or service you offer has anything to do with targeting? The product or service you offer has everything to do with targeting. You need to advertise to people who are likely to buy what you have to offer for any marketing endeavor to succeed.

  • @diceymaan
    @diceymaan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try this in a non-sexy industry like concrete, it won't work. You will never find enough targeting options, especially if you are in a smaller country. No tools will come up, no competitors, just generic interest for concrete which is useless. Not blaming Ben though, this is still very valid and valuable for a lot of businesses!

    • @BenHeath

    Hi Ben - if I'm selling £700 products with a relatively small budget, would it be best if I used a reduced number of variables - e.g. 2x ad sets (+ retargeting) with 2x ads per ad set
    This would mean that I could make a more informed decision as to which are performing better/worse because I would have more conversions per variable, and would therefore be able to make more statistically significant decisions (as opposed to using lots of variables)

    • @BenHeath
      @BenHeath  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Great question and yes it would be. Your logic is spot on as well.

    • @marksmith4304
      @marksmith4304 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are the 2x ads per ad set here the same ad or different ads? Or slightly different? Going to do this, one more question please? Is this still valid strategy in November 2022?

    • @folklorr
      @folklorr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marksmith4304 you start off with 2x ad sets with the same 2x ads in them, so the only variable that's different is the audience (each ad set will have a separate audience). This can change going forward if a certain audience prefers a certain type of ad, but that's always the starting point. This type of strategy is pretty evergreen, it's A/B testing, which has been around since god was a boy (just with reduced variables).

    Hi Ben, so I have 6000+ purchase customer list that I have uploaded as a custom audience, would you say it makes targeting more optimized to "stack" the best performing interests on top of lookalikes after they've been tested? We are about to do this and obviously will test, but wanted to know if you have done this with your clients and seen success.

    • @BenHeath
      @BenHeath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jonathan, that's a great asset to have. I would create a lookalike from that audience and absolutely not stack interests on top of it - you'll end up with blended averages and confusing Facebook.

    • @BenHeath

      You'll need to wait until you have at least 100 people in your source from one country. So you wouldn't be able to use 50 purchasers as a source audience I'm afraid. I think you'd find this video on lookalikes helpful: th-cam.com/video/vWY-BxIntxM/w-d-xo.html

      It is annoying - but you can still select detailed targeting options.

  • @TheRazerlg
    @TheRazerlg 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did what you mentioned in the video, but I found that most of the audiences had an overlap of 80-90% between them. Lets say "kindergarten", "preschool" and "baby food". Then, I dont see any sense of running 3 differents adsets for each of the interests, as 90% of their audience is shared across the adsets, therefore diluting my overall budget and limiting the delivery of the other adsets.
    How do you solve the overlap issue? I rather prefer to target A+B+C at 3x Budget than separately, specially when the overlapping is +80% between them
    Thank you

    • @BenHeath
      @BenHeath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can see your logic there but an 80-90% overlap has enough of a difference to warrant a test. Remember that Facebook will only ever show your ads to a small fraction of your target audience. That fraction could contain a lot of people from the differing 10-20%. Even with a 90% overlap, you could see a 50% difference in who actually sees your ads for example - not always but it is possible.
      We've seen big differences between results with audiences that overlap heavily. So be careful assuming they will perform at the same level.
      In terms of solving the overlap issue, we use CBO and then don't worry about it. Anything you do to manually force less overlap will have more of a negative effect than the problem you are trying to solve in my opinion.
