in my opinion, gamestops downward spiral really began when thinkgeek started taking up half the store (although others will say it was when they started selling cell phones). the worst part of gamestops eventual fall is that its completely self inflicted. it doesn't need to happen and they have the power to fix it but they're too out of touch with gaming.
They really don't have the power to fix it anymore. Digital games accounted for 40% of game sales last year. They lost almost have their customers they will never get back nowm
Seems weird to shut the website down but keep the retail locations open to me. I would imagine that due to their financial situation it would be in their best interest to revamp the Think Geek website, clean it up, get all the out of stock stuff out and sell that way. Lower overhead than having retail locations. Seems like when a lot of these companies get bought out, the quality just goes to hell.
@@BPGRYT Exactly. Next genius idea the company will have will be to start a retail store to sell brand new Blu-Rays and CDs. It's like why are they even trying to pretend they're going to be around in 3 years? They screwed up their rewards program, I've never seen a pro-Game Stop video on here. The awkward encounters I have with staff when I go in to browse just makes me feel bad. I don't get mad at them because I know they are scared into trying to get sales and signups but when it comes to "Hi, what's your e-mail address?" when I simply walk in, that's a deterrent, not a good sales pitch.
@@BPGRYT I noticed also on their website some items were marked out of stock over the years, yet I would most of those items overstocked at GameStop. That's a interesting idea to me lol.
I am just glad they arent closing the retail stores. I enjoy shopping for collectibles and stuff like that at think geek. Never ordered off the website though. Mostly because I figured out there was store sort of close.lol I'm glad they arent closing the retail store but you would think in terms of profit a retail store would cost alot more to run than a website.
There's probably a whole lot of economic overhead that gets reduced by just folding the delivery chain of ThinkGeek directly into the GameStop super system. But this is probably one of the situations were maintaining the brand distinction was a better idea. If this is what that new CEO gets remembered for...
I see people talking like this is a good strategic move for Gamestop and I laugh. Yes it is a great move to sell stuff nobody wants in a brick and mortar store instead of online. Those damn internets are too expensive, in-store sales is where it's at! Why can they not see how the business model repulses people? Giving us $7 for a game they sell for $50 - that makes customers angry.
Last thing I ordered were various USB lights and stuff to decorate my pc like a Christmas tree, as well as my PlayStation... and some bags of holding.... and Pokémon cake molds. It was a big order
I'm more confuse why they're closing the site then the stores? Thinking about it even more there isn't even ThinkGeek store near my location at all but there is a GameStop that about 100 miles away and I'm not walking that far to buy shit even less selling my shit.😒
@@BPGRYT I'll never understand GameStop dumb business decisions and why they make them without thinking about the drawbacks that will effect them in the long run.
I love Think Geek forChristmas shopping. Since everything is out of stock I stop using it. Games Stop is on life support. Last thing I bought from Think Geek was Star Trek journal!
I never heard of ThinkGeek until Gamestop acquired it. I checked out the website here and there, but could never bite on some of the prices. The only thing I can distinctly remember wanting was their B.S.A.A. kit, or something like that. I wonder what would have happened if Hot Topic acquired it instead
I bought a monitor off ThinkGeek thirteen years ago maybe longer and it was good deal but I noticed when I went back years later that a lot of things were out of stock so I went elsewhere, To bad I never cashed in my points but that's ok because I was probably better off shopping elsewhere.
Gamestop is going out of business somewhere in no more than 10 years from now. Its all about convenience on downloading games and having better deal on physical games on other retailers and websites. I have amazon and ebay. Speciality stores are dying. I expect CVS and Walgreens to be next. Walmart and other grocery chains charge less for medications. Amazon is going to do prescription delivery also. My heart goes out to all the hard working employees at theses stores that are hounded by a management that is desperate.
The reason why Walmart and other grocery chain charge less is because they can take the hit since they make their profit on food. Pharmacies like gamestop can't afford to take a hit in their highest profit margin. That's why everything is expensive at cvs/walgreens.
I don't personally care about thinkgeek as I find items like that just household clutter. That said why purchase them just to run them into the ground? Huge wasted opportunities like this are one of many reasons GS will be joining toysrus and circuit city and others in the retail graveyard.
The writing's on the wall for GameStop it's been on the wall for a while it's now engraved into the concrete of the wall death / bankruptcy is approaching
There was a lot of stuff I wanted to get from them but I couldn't afford because sometimes their stuff was a little spendy although I know that that had a lot to do with intellectual property rights. I still have one of their catalogs from like Christmas of 2010 and there's so many things in there I wish I could get. A friend of mine had one of those laser keyboards and it actually worked pretty well. I think one of the last things I got from ThinkGeek was this little RC helicopter but I was kind of upset with it because it really only had two modes for the throttle full blast or crashing to the ground
Ehh... those pop culture stuff can be found at hot topic or amazon or ebay or videogame conventions. Its no big loss to us but a huge savings for those evil bastards at gamestop HQ.
I loved ThinkGeek. I think my last purchase was last year when I desperately needed a master sword letter opener. Not too keen on GameStop, tho. Gee, I wonder why.
They kill everything they touch anymore GameStop is just trying to keep afloat they r gonna b able to save them selves it’s so high but they had cool stuff
Correct but why kill the website which does well in favor of retail which is dying as a whole. They also don't carry the more unique think geek stuff mostly just the junk!

We're talking about lamestop today. Why? You may ask. Because why the fuck not. Yea that's not really a loss to me i never buy anything from gamestop that isn't a game or trading cards.
I do remember thinkgeek prior to gamestop and it was awesome. Of course this is what gamestop does. But soon it wont matter as they will be gone. The clock is ticking!
A couple days ago I actually went in to buy a copy of Majora's Mask 3DS I bought a new copy cuz that's what I wanted surprisingly they did not try to Jedi mind trick me into getting used

Shame that GameStop is run by corporate types and not gamers who would have a better grip on what people want to buy and play

Kroger in pickerington has BAWLS. I used to get it at micro center.

I would rather keep my game over get $7. Plus you can sell em yourself on eBay.
Back Pocket Game Reviews probably because GameStop is shutting down themselves

Gamedtop needs a gamer as CEO. Maybe something will change
