The camel came out of nowhere
I really enjoyed this video! It's one of the most entertaining you've made.
Thank you
Yes I remember hearing a few stories about this. It's was also involved in another accident on the svr at one of the crossings in 2001 near bewdley hit into the front car and the buffer came flying off.
Ahoy there
Okay fine, I admit it; '"Ouch" - The Camel' got me good.
The bit not mentioned: the engine was pulling its train normally but an empty wagon was coupled on ahead of it and being propelled. It was the empty wagon which struck the camel and was derailed in the collision, but this in turn derailed the engine rather than the camel itself. The fate of the camel is not recorded.
RIP Camel 🐪
I honestly expected a camel to be too tall and light to derail a train.
There quite a heavy animal. Also all it take is the front wheels to come off and if it’s going fast enough the rest of the train generally follows it
@@connorjonesdecades521 Good points.
70307 (Its Egyptian State Railways number) was propelling a flat wagon when the camel crossed the path of the train. The camel derailed the wagon, which in turn derailed, 70307.. The locomotive at the time was fitted with a 'cow catcher' which would probably have prevented the derailment. The locomotive remained on it's side in the desert for around three months before eventually being recovered.
