Bothy Camping at Cadderlie Bothy!

- A cracking night away at Cadderlie Bothy on the shores of Loch Etive: Kev and I head off to Cadderlie to escape all the general election chat. Tommy & Kyle from Manchester arrived a while after us, then Steph and Louise from Canada. We all got on great and had a good laugh arround the bothy TV (fire) with a dram or 2.

The first time I was in Cadderlie was in 1970 to visit the McIntyres who where the family who sheperded the North side of the Loch. I have known Bonawe since I was 2 weeks old when I was brought across the ferry from Taynuilt to Ferry Island after complications in Hospital. My Family lived in Sea View, the big house above the entrance to the Quarry as my Uncle was the Quarry Manager. I consider Cadderlie as my ancestral home, althought the village of "Kenmore Cottages" is where I spent all my best days. I must have spent a couple of hundred nights in Cadderlie ( Field of the fruit trees) before and after it became an MBA Bothy in 1984 myself and with friends.
I am now 60 years old and have spent my life exploring Scotland, bothying, bivvying and also doing survival with a military friend who tought survival it in the TA. This was a perfect partnership as I was a "Habitat Survyer" for the Scottish Wildlife Trust. He taught me Survival while I taught him the uses of the Flora and Fauna we have in abuntance. A match made in Heaven, The knowledge he gave me, gave me a confidence that will never leave me.When is comes to Surviva, when walking I am constantly unconsiously looking out for a natural shelter. A wonderful skill to have.. I have to date spent a night in 67 bothies both MBA and non mba. If I don't spend the night I does't count. I have yet to find a better view to awaken to other than Cadderlie but , berhaps "Rubha Hunish" on Skye, if you should ever find yourself there. Would on a quiet mid week be, just amazing. I wish you health and the privilage to have all the adventures I have had, and more. By the way to the channela good few years ago.x
Top post Calum, thanks for sharing your story. I'd like to go back again, maybe walk in from the Glen Etive side for a change of scenery.

You got much planned in the run up to Christmas?
Got two trips planned on both Fridays before Christmas. Hoping to go to the Lomond Hills this Friday and maybe do Allermuir Hill next Friday. If I struggle for time I’ll do more Lochs. I might try some Bothy overnight stays as well throughout Christmas. Hopefully you do get another trip in before the end of the year I always enjoy your videos.

An eclectic mix of people in the bothy, there must be a joke in there somewhere! Great looking bothy mind, even with it's own honeymoon suite and knicker draw lol! Looked a bit dreary outdoors but the big soup must have warmed things up and vintage scoff indeed! Looked a great night and a Very Merry Christmas to you too, cheers Alan

Good one again! You have so many movies here, will spent the whole night on it once. Your English is nice and clear, but I appreciate the subtitles. Caderlie was my first bothy trip with my daughter, its beautiful bothy and glen.

Funny, I was going to do a bothy trip to cadderlie or allt sheachechan Saturday just gone there, but something came up and I had to bail. Looked like you had a good laugh. Always interesting the folks you meet in a bothy.

Thanks for sharing this trip , looking at the weather I can see why you opted not to camp. I hope you did not let Kev do all the houswork on his own , although he was doing a good job of it :D You made me laugh about the honeymoon suite I would expect it to have its own en suit ;D Looks like you all had a good crack round the fire, I obviosly loved the robin at the start and that river looked fab in spate like that. Haha, I was doing a lot of sweeping off camera before we were cleaning the window sill and table. I love seeing rivers in spate as long as I don't have to cross them. 😁 How you keeping?
