HE is a real talent. There were immortal albums recorded almost just by him only. HE is proficient on bass, guitars, drums, synths and he performs the vocals of course. LOVE HIM
I've been self teachin guitar for almost 4 years and was about to give up until i saw this guy say he was a slow learner too and started out the exact same!!
Yeah, Abbath actually seems like he's a SUPER chill guy. He seems to be the type of guy who just plays it from his heart and doesn't gloat about his music and shit. Gotta love his riffs too!
Abbath is one of the coolest dudes ever! Man, I will never forget seeing Immortal as a last-minute show here in KC and nearly getting fired from my job at the time because of it! Glad I went when they did the Sons Of Northern Darkness tour! Abbath is awesome! :D
@EdgeStormcrow same, man. I almost cried when they played "In My Kingdom Cold" live. he has such a penchant for writing chord progressions that bleed pure emotion, whether he's tremoloing single notes, playing thrashy rhythms, or even just doing straight gallops on the 6th string. none of it sounds forced at all. great songwriting.
He uses the DV8R but he's had a Floyd Rose installed on it, he also uses Seymour Duncans instead of the Livewires they come with. It's the LTD version as well.
@grindmaggots666 that riff at 1:14 is anything but simple to play up to speed and cleanly unless you've been playing for a long time. I absolutely love Abbath's rhythm playing. his riffs are just great.
the intro of "At The Heart Of Winter" is SO FUCKIN' AMAZING!well the whole song is amazing but everytime I listen to this one, gives me chills...sick huh? XD
it really looks funny when starts making those faces he usually does with his corpsepaint on.. and i love the picking technique he uses in the first riff..thats really hard to play..its even harder in "damned in black"
He seems like the coolest dude in the black metal world. Doesn't take himself so damn seriously. And on top of that Immortal created the best music videos of all time hahaha
he is definately so talented in either guitarr bass or drums , he himself does the whole music for immortal , so how people can be critisazing his skills , he is just awezome cant u see , he play drums on the blast beats albuns and pure holocaust , he is more talented the many american guitarrist ,
"Greatest Blashyrkh wait for me.." sh1t dudes this guy know how to create some true, and also emotional stuff! damn even in Guitar lessons i have shivers in my spine! Hails! \../
It's amazing, even to this day how people waste so much time having a pissing contest as to WHO's the best metal drummer or what band is above the rest. Instead of fighting amongst each other, WE metal-heads should be uniting as ONE against pop culture, selling out, etc. It honestly doesn't matter what genre of metal you listen to. The point is no matter what country you go to, metal fans will ALWAYS have something in common...our passion for metal, and that is what separate US from them.
@fidzikus Actually I think he is pretty good a guitarist but in his own terms. Being a Malmsteen isn't the only way of being good at playing guitar. The guy has written songs that bring thousands to see their shows so that would pretty much give him some credit for being an adequate guitarist, drummer, bass player and even vocalist. And if someone isn't very good at showing their own material to others doesn't make them a bad player. Teaching is a completely different beast.
@EZMENIO666 yeah I figured out that Abbath says "this is some of at the heart of winter stuff"... it's just that I'm not English native speaker, and Abbath doesn't speak so well, so it's even more difficult to understand what he says... thanks anyway.
@fidzikus Actually he's a composer, he's not an artist. Immortal is a band, btw. One of the most epic black metal bands through time. Hans Zimmer makes film music, and trailer material. If anyone should be called artists it is the ones choiring or doing all the instrumental parts.
That's the main problem with most bands today, not just in metal, wich is why most bands and music today sucks in my opinion. Being all technical just because...
Why everyone on TH-cam plays the intro to at the heart of winter differently from Abbath?.hmmm i cant figure out how exactly he's playing...i tried to get the tabs but they are all just different...
@vaarluukl Well, he didn't say, but he is. He's amazing at guitar riffs. Doesn't seem he focuses too much here.. this is much more for fun =P At a concert you'd certainly hear difference, he doesn't take this too serious. Besides.. his riffs, he made them up by himself. 1.15 is amazing.
@zgates I dont listen Emperor nor i learned anything about it, but why's that an advantage? Or what is that guy considered ? It's not anything negative, im just asking...
ehm... the right hand is just as important as the left hand, your sound is based on how you place you right hand, how you hold the plektrum and so forth.
Anyone can tell me how can I get that sound? I think I hear that it comes from two two different amps and it's mixed. One of it might be mesa dual rectifier but I'm not sure what's the second one.
Love how he starts singing. I could listen to just him for hours. One man band.
Same here, most definitely! Abbath is the shit!
Big bet that he is one of them old souls that have been in countless bloody battles in his past lives. *With swoord in our haaands*
HE is a real talent. There were immortal albums recorded almost just by him only. HE is proficient on bass, guitars, drums, synths and he performs the vocals of course. LOVE HIM
Agreed, being mostly a power metal and melodic death metal fan, immortal really appeals to me that way because of their epic sound.
Great Riffs, his black metal voice as well.
His guitar tone is simply amazing
his vocal tone is simply amazing
Love the fact that he's down to earth. If he can't remember a riff, he'll say that he can't.
I love how he doesn't take himself so seriously.
And he's pretty much the Dave Mustaine of Black Metal.
the Dave Grohl
love it i can feel the cold through my veins with every riff
Love Abbath! He's hilarious!!
This guy's right hand is ridiculous. It's always in a perfect relaxed state and makes the songs look effortless.
I've been self teachin guitar for almost 4 years and was about to give up until i saw this guy say he was a slow learner too and started out the exact same!!
That melody at the start was insane.
this dude can just bust out that god damn voice at any point he is truly good at what he does
abbath has one of the coolest singing voices i've heard.
What a character. He's just awesome, anything he does wrong you can't hold against him cause it makes him what he is.
this man knows how to crank out some epic riffs. Immortal and Emperor rule the black metal world.
"I forgot."
Yeah, Abbath actually seems like he's a SUPER chill guy. He seems to be the type of guy who just plays it from his heart and doesn't gloat about his music and shit.
Gotta love his riffs too!
so much varity in Immortal songs...n this guy maks edm look so simple.....n man hes funny...n down to earth...hail Abbath,,hail IMMORTAL \m/
What i love about Abbath is he messes up and laughes about it :P Some people flip out if they mess up. But Abbath just keeps going! He is awesome!
A Black Metal Legend - such a talented guitar player!! (but so humble! Top bloke!!)
hes vocals are so fucking brutal dude i really love them and hes guitar playing is KILLER
Abbath is one of the coolest dudes ever! Man, I will never forget seeing Immortal as a last-minute show here in KC and nearly getting fired from my job at the time because of it! Glad I went when they did the Sons Of Northern Darkness tour! Abbath is awesome! :D
very few come up up with such epic memorable riffs.
I agree. My two favorite bands have some of the most awesome frontmen in metal. Nergal, and Abbath.
Abbath and Immortal really do stand out! It's definitely the best black metal band ever by far!
Fucking funny how he absolutely makes his Abbath stage face while he's jamming on these riffs. You can tell he really digs playing.
Great video, nice to see him just hanging around and jamming ^^
By far my favorite Black Metal guitarist!!!!
I dont care if he sucks in lead, shred or whatever, his riffs beats it all! Long live Immortal!
I guess
I just meant how it sounds like he writes two guitar parts, then plays them on the same guitar
i love it
At the Heart of Winter, has the most badass riff....EVER!
Abbath Is immortal. Greatness
He has the fullest sounding chords ever, I wonder what he's playing though for this vid.
He is MASTER of Metal music
Everyone with his feelings, but in my opinion it sounds incredibly cool. I so like it! Fucking yeah!
the intro of "At The Heart Of Winter" is SO FUCKIN' AMAZING!well the whole song is amazing but everytime I listen to this one, gives me chills...sick huh? XD
Abbath is hilarious. His accent makes it so that all I can hear is low and deep "hubba hubba gob, offf, gobbo hobo off arf muff"
damn what amp is he using it sounds awesome awesome song too at the heart of winter kicks serious ass
The Best Player whit the best Rifts!
it really looks funny when starts making those faces he usually does with his corpsepaint on..
and i love the picking technique he uses in the first riff..thats really hard to play..its even harder in "damned in black"
There is somthing about the intro to at the heart of winter. it gives me a natural high.
@arare666 Precisely, he plays within his ability, and he writes good riffs. Music doesn't always have to be about technicality.
He seems like the coolest dude in the black metal world. Doesn't take himself so damn seriously. And on top of that Immortal created the best music videos of all time hahaha
I like how he is being REAL not a fake ass. He has skill especially for being self taught.
HAIL Abbath /m/ for going his own style
he is definately so talented in either guitarr bass or drums , he himself does the whole music for immortal , so how people can be critisazing his skills , he is just awezome cant u see , he play drums on the blast beats albuns and pure holocaust , he is more talented the many american guitarrist ,
@Dickdeth Yes, but it's from the period when dave had a contract with ESP, look up ESP 2005 models on net.
That guitar sounds so EVIL! Love it!!
"Greatest Blashyrkh wait for me.."
sh1t dudes this guy know how to create some true, and also emotional stuff!
damn even in Guitar lessons i have shivers in my spine!
Hails! \../
yeah i find that cool aswell , he seems like someone u can have a beer with and have a conversation with ,Nergal from Behemoth is the same ,very cool
@Nelladagar its At the heart of winter
это шедевр.
AAA fuck it venom fuckit LMAO
@TheCountxx yes, he is very technical with the guitar, he can play over 30 powerchords!!
At the heart of winter off the album, at the heart of winter
Gänsehautfeeling...^^
awesome! He uses some unusual chord shapes... he has a GREAT sense of humor.
He’s a legend fosho
On a first listen you would have no clue they are a three piece.
Those riffs are all these really cool chords that sound like two guitars
Abbath is awesome!

Abbath might not be the greatest guitarist technically but he has an individual playing style that no one can replicate.
@EZMENIO666 yeah I figured out that Abbath says "this is some of at the heart of winter stuff"... it's just that I'm not English native speaker, and Abbath doesn't speak so well, so it's even more difficult to understand what he says... thanks anyway.

Hans Zimmer makes film music, and trailer material. If anyone should be called artists it is the ones choiring or doing all the instrumental parts.
no mames que bien toca, por eso immortal es una de mis bandas favoritas en vivo
ARRIBA EL BLACK METAL!!!!!!!!!1
People actually still think guitar riffs have to be technically complicated to be good?
surely no one is this deluded
Being technical for the sake of being technical is never going to work.
ff
That's the main problem with most bands today, not just in metal, wich is why most bands and music today sucks in my opinion. Being all technical just because...
Skjoldvall a lot of Megadeth fans think that
HE IS AMAZING!!! Abbath is a fuckin metal legend!
Darlthrone does it on their 1996 album, Total Death.
'i forgot' haha, pure genius this guy xD
Why everyone on TH-cam plays the intro to at the heart of winter differently from Abbath?.hmmm i cant figure out how exactly he's playing...i tried to get the tabs but they are all just different...
I FUCKING LOVE THAT RIFF!!! ABBATH FTW!!!

ABBATH IS THE MAN!!!!! IMMORTAL FTW

his sound is amazin.what equipment is he using
@zgates I dont listen Emperor nor i learned anything about it, but why's that an advantage?
Or what is that guy considered ?
It's not anything negative, im just asking...
Amazing how his voice changed since the early 90's
Yes Emperor have some lessons on the tube
i love him !
@grindmaggots666 Played them while doing vocals. Pretty simple. Not trolling, the riffs are pretty good, but some complexity is always welcomed
His palm must and right hand is great....
Yes, its awesome!
ehm... the right hand is just as important as the left hand, your sound is based on how you place you right hand, how you hold the plektrum and so forth.
hahah i love this guy, glad to know that theres a black metal musician with a sense of humor
what resolution am I supposed to watch this. I think I got it but I'm still working on it...
Legend!
Oh my Holy Blizzard Wizard I'm going to bust out on my gee tar now.
he makes it look so easy
I wish I could have that guitar sound.
Can anyone tell what tune he is in?
Anyone can tell me how can I get that sound? I think I hear that it comes from two two different amps and it's mixed. One of it might be mesa dual rectifier but I'm not sure what's the second one.
abbath is the main example that black metal is not only for serious people
@AutodromoF1 I have to agree with that. He isn't so serious about satanic image or shit, it's all about music.
Abbath is a fucking genius. Come to Canada more!
