The Taranis X9D Plus needs no introduction, nor does its Special Edition.
Mine is the carbon version, which I showcased a while ago on the channel. It looks great and is worth its price for what it packs. As with most things though, I couldn't leave it stock.
It already has most of the parts you would use to upgrade the "normal" X9D+ with, so most of the mods are purely cosmetic.
My white and orange themed X9D Plus is still my favorite but the SE is now a very close second.

Tint film: The one I used is 35%, from a local tinting shop. I suggest you do the same - most probably they can give you a small piece for free. A good squeegee will ensure perfect application so consider getting a small one - otherwise wrap a paper towel tightly around a credit card, like I did.

If I remember correctly I started the cut with scissors and traced around the display with a sharp blade.
Haven't used tint film much so your mileage may vary, mine was fairly easy to cut.

@@muteFPV must likely il probably get it in 2 weeks that's why I'm watching videos to see wich one I will get I'm new on the hobby I already build a kwad and my radio got some kind of problem when I went to upgrade the firmware so I think it will be better if I get me a new one.
If it was cause by a firmware upgrade, there must be a way to re-flash and fix the problem you are having. But if you were going to upgrade anyway, then OK. The X9D will last you a looooooooooong time :)

well done mate! is your solution for the stick ends any longer than the stock ones? i hate the stock ones for being short as fck...

Thank you +Fliptality! The stick ends can't go longer than the stock ones. Their design is similar and the threaded shaft of the M9 gimbals remains the same. Your best bet would be M4 threaded one-piece sticks, so that you can extend them further. Haven't looked if there are any options available for this size and type.
yes I found some one piece sticks on hobbyking.com that work okay... the are quite thin and really long, but still better than the short ones that came stock. :) I have small hands sadly, so the stock ones dont really work for me

I will probably do it on one of the X9Ds and a complete DIY antenna build on the other, waiting for a few coax cables to arrive. RG316 is the suggested type and I will follow IBCrazy's (Alex Greaves) recommendations.

None that I am aware of, but I haven't used my X9D for a very long time so I am not up to date with recent mods!
also do you know any 5dbi 2.4ghz sma antenna's for the taranis?
Im using the new mr steele one and turns out the connector is not rp-sma but just sma.
I am pretty sure it will not be hard to find. There are plenty of 2.4GHz antennas on Ebay and AliExpress. I have not used an SMA one in order to suggest it to you.

Im not sure, I have not recieved it yet but on get fpv it says sma along with horus rc and other providers.
Yes, it does. It also says that an adapter is included, so maybe the adapter is used to screw an RP-SMA antenna on/off/on/off without wearing out the SMA connector of the Taranis. So when the RP-SMA wears out you just replace the adapter. Just speculating here, don't take this for granted.

I want to buy a tramitter for my brushed qx90. Which on is better flysky i6x or flysky i6s or flysky i6 for my flysky receiver for better flying experience???
I have never used any of the FlySky transmitters so I cannot help you with that.
I am only using FrSky.

I assume you just got the excess tint with a razor blade?
I trimmed it with a blade, yes. You can remove it and put it back on until you are done trimming. Then you can squeegee it and leave it to stick.
muteFPV thanks I was just going to leave some excess and trim it with a blade while on the transmitter since there is a nice edge that you could cut the tint at without scratching the transmitter
+Carlen Cyphers yep, that will be fine as well. My tint film was a bit thick and I couldn't trim the curved edges easily without removing it.
I got it done - it looks awesome. I used 3M VLT tint off eBay that came in 4"x6" sheets. Cut it down just a bit and applied with water like you did. I tried a razor blade, but like you said it was quite difficult to get around the edges. I tried again, but with an Olfa knife this time. Super easy and it came out perfect. I trimmed it right there on the transmitter. I had quite a few micro bubbles that would have been a nightmare to get out using the squeegee, but I noticed this morning they are all gone and it looks fantastic. Anyways...hopefully some tips for someone else to use.

You don't have to, it is perfectly fine right out of the box ;)
You should check out the Visaton BF32 8 ohm 2W speaker as a replacement for the stock Taranis speaker. Like your mod, requires an adapter. Several different styles are available on Thingiverse. I used this adapter www.thingiverse.com/thing:569061. The difference is dramatic.
Damn, I have already ordered 2 more other speakers, not something specific, whatever I could find at these specs.
I will keep in mind the Visaton for the next time I get speakers, although I looked a bit into it and could only find it from vendors with expensive shipping (ends up approx. EUR 17 per piece which is a lot).
It's a shame when shipping is actually more than the cost of the part. Just searching on-line indicates that the speaker is available from a source in Germany for $13.36 + $7.50 shipping. Don't know if that is helpful. The speaker is also available on Amazon for $8.50 + $5.95 shipping here in the USA.

how thick is an taranis x9d?
+Boomo 12 the housing itself is ~6-7cm. From the back of the stand to the top of the neckstrap balancer it is ~10-11cm.
I mean the side of the taranis! Does that make sense?
+Boomo 12 it varies but it is around 6-7cm. It is closer to 5-6cm where your hands hold it.

Did it say anywhere that they were necessary? It is a fine radio right out of the box.
