How was this extraordinarily selfless act not covered all over the media? Nothing i love hearing more than people and animals doing generous and heroic things for other people and animals.
This girl River Barry, she is one heck of a human! We should all be grateful people like her exist. I know I will never forget her and this story. I am in awe of how selfless she was when the SHTF for this dude! Just WOW! What a story!!
River is a hero. That’s a beautiful story. I appreciate you explaining why BASE is different and significantly higher risk than skydiving. When I was younger, BASE seemed like a simpler alternative with a lower barrier of entry, and I’m sure I’m not the first person to think this way. It’s important that anyone demonstrating or discussing BASE lay out the risks and statistics exactly as you have done.
Why isn’t this woman’s bravery and strength taught in school? This woman’s story could give so many young girls inspiration! Why is this the first time I have ever heard this story?
Amazing story! Thanks for bringing it us, your growing group of "Adventures Gone Wrong" junkies who can't wait for the next epidsode. This Adventure, although it went wrong, had so much that went right in terms of the compassion and courage of the rescuers. Very Inspiring!
I jumped in tandem once from a cliff in Turkey. Ahh, to be young again and think you're never gonna die! 😊 This guy must have done something good to have River be on that particular spot on that day. She was clearly his guardian (experience climber with gear handy) angel.
River is a BAMF and I wanna be just like her when I grow up. But seriously, she is a BAMF and she deserves all the flowers she got for this act of rescue she performed. She is an absolute legend in my mind and I am sure in the mind of the jumper she rescued.
WOW!!! i googled River Barry out of curiosity and she's a therapist now! what a fabulous human. and no, i'd never base jump. i've sky dived twice and that's (probably) enough for me!
What an incredible story! People being in the right place at the right time can truly be amazing. She was incredibly brave and strong to do what she did, and I'm glad everyone made it out okay
Knows to River for saving a life! Clear head, focussed intention, and mad skills in the right place at the right time. Thanks for your excellent coverage of these stories! I really enjoy your writing, delivery, and editing. Subscribed.
Thanks for watching! This was a great one to research. While I didn't learn much about the BASE Jumper (he prefers to remain anonymous), it was great to hear it from River's perspective.
@@adventuresgonewrongIndeed, it was very interesting! I love anything climbing, base jumping, or wingsuit. I know you normally cover lesser known incidents in which makes your channel unique. I love it. But whether you cover it or just research for yourself... check out Jeb Corliss life story. He may be a mad lad, but he has an awesome purpose and history behind it. Amazing life story he has!
I'd barely ever heard of BASE jumping before watching this video (and I know nothing about parachuting either). The first 3-and-a-half minutes of this video are an excellent BASE jumping explanation for total laypeople like me. Perfect job of getting us up to speed on the subject right from the start!
Having just experienced an accident in front of me, I can attest to shock, not thinking, not knowing what to do. I thought I was prepared. River, is astounding!❤
River, you are a hero and a most amazing human being ! You put your life on a line to save one crazy thrill seeker. No, I would never do anything involving heights as I have vertigo
I had heard about this on a podcast - you did an excellent job of breaking down what happened. It is truly inspiring how River stepped up and did what had to be done. I don’t think I would ever try BASE jumping , and I am a rock climber myself. I just discovered your channel and appreciate the way you cover these accidents 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Love your videos! Nice that this story turned out so well thanks to River's skills, which surely took years of hard work to develop. I am learning rope access techniques right now, and I hope to be part of a search and rescue team one day. Keep up the great content!
Man, this young lady...I've been in that frame of mind, adrenaline blasting, where everything becomes laser focused and trivialities are subconsciously and automatically filtered out. Time is your mortal enemy but you can't let that be an issue or both of you will very likely die right then and there. Do this, then this, then this - and do them all correctly with no prep time or preplanning available. She is a damned honest to God legend and a true badass.
@@adventuresgonewrong lol you just investigated and narrated this above someone who could have died and you are thinking about doing it too, crazy! Please do an update on your other channel
What a great story! Congrats to River Barry. Surely she's the person anyone would choose to have nearby in an emergency. To answer your question... Nope! No BASE jumping for me. I really like the way you tell these stories, AGW. I like the lack of hype, the occasional humor, your down-to-earth tone, and that you clearly enjoy (safe-ish) adventuring yourself. It's possible that other folks get life-saving information from the accounts of other adventurers' accidents. Perhaps _you_ do a bit of 'rescuing' by telling these stories so well.
River is a badass and a hero. But it’s a miracle that they weren’t killed. BASE jumping is insane. There have been so many deaths and serious injuries.
That’s a true hero! Amazing story, amazing narration and amazing ending! So glad it had a happy ending. AND NO! Would never try BASE jumping! Those people are cra cra…lol
Base jumpers waste so many emergency services, it's wild. They make life a living hell for National Park rangers. The Yosemite base jumping incident really turns me off from that group of people.
5.10 is actually a relatively easy grade to climb - and probably why it was so choosy and crappy to put traditional protection. Lucky for them both it wasn’t any more difficult! She was clearly experienced in setting anchor and she had a good belayer at the base of the climb to lower them both down. Great video as always!
Recently found your channel and I’m afraid I’m running out of your backlog to watch already. Your intro is fantastic, BTW We just shake our head at base jumpers 🤨
I knew Carl Boenish from hang gliding. He always had a smile and was always having fun. He was in love with life. His film making was wonderful and he documented what is now the early history of hang gliding, skydiving relative work, and base jumping. I was fortunate to get to go to his house for movie night where we watched his films. Sometimes I got to see myself flying in his films. Of course they were usually comic relief of me crashing.
River was the effin bad-ass! I've done some rock climbing as well as spelunking but would never base although I'm known as crazy and fearless. I've already broke enough bones and had enough stitches (switched to superglue after a few hundred stitches). I'm permanently disabled nowadays. The sudden strong updrafts on cliffs on hot summer days is quite a deterrent from base jumping

I am in awe of River’s fast thinking and action. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an extraordinary save.
Yeah! Super cool 💪
Yeah, she was great!
She is definitely a super hero
That she was able to bring him down with just the gear she had on hand, amazing!
This girl River Barry, she is one heck of a human! We should all be grateful people like her exist. I know I will never forget her and this story. I am in awe of how selfless she was when the SHTF for this dude! Just WOW! What a story!!
THAT WOMAN is the bravest woman I have ever seen...I take my hat off to you and give you a humble bow.
Right?! Just like no big deal I’ll climb that 60ft crack and save his life.
@@adventuresgonewrong Its called SKILL
Yes! Those are some real climbing chops! From years of work. If I could have I would be brave enough to do it but I couldn’t even start

Great story! Frankly, i can't believe people do any of these sports, but River is definitely incredible.
BASE jumping is one that I definitely struggle to understand. And River is awesome and pretty humble about it all.
Why isn’t this woman’s bravery and strength taught in school? This woman’s story could give so many young girls inspiration! Why is this the first time I have ever heard this story?
I watched every single video on this channel in a week, I think I'm addicted 😂
Ahaha same 😂 I’m currently in the process of watching it all through, with maybe a dozen still to go-can’t get enough!
Now River is a true hero. Such an act of courage and well thought out too. Glad she was there.
Wow … what a incredible rescue by a stranger .. I love it when different skills come together to do life changing things. X

Wow, that's wild! Funny how we are so much more reckless in our youth. That's amazing you experienced it and all turned out ok!
@@adventuresgonewrong So crazy to me now when I can't even cross a bridge without getting dizzy. Stupid aging brain! 😁
I would never try base jumping but it’s really amazing how a passion for River turned into a life saving activity for that man. Perfect timing.
Beautiful story told beautifully! I love that you don't focus solely on tragedies, and the way you present these is very refreshing. Keep it up!
