    5:38 Don't lie, you only like them because if you put your knees together it says "STRONG STRONG". So every time you put them on you can say, "Hello my STRONG STRONG knee sleeves"

    Smelly knee sleeves are a great alternative for smelling salts 😂

  • @kevinpassmore3426
    @kevinpassmore3426 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    An old trick I used to use for smelly boxing gloves is to let them air dry then put them in the freezer for 4/5 hours. I read somewhere back in the day that the smell comes from bacteria that will die if left in the freezer for a while. It does help with boxing gloves.
    For something like knee sleeves you can probably safely rinse them with cold water, let them air dry, then once dry put them in the freezer until you need them for the gym the next day.

    I think it's important to point out that STRONG sleeves can be worn in the USAPL. They are not IPF approved, but this only applies to a very small percentage of lifters. Strong sleeves can be worn at any local USAPL meet, since the IPF approved list only applies to regional, national, and IPF meets. Once again, you CAN wear a non-ipf approved item like the strong sleeve or an Asics singlet at a local meet as long as it meets specifications (ig. Knee sleeves not more than 7mm thick), which the strong sleeves do

    Over the years I've about tried em all.. SBD, 7mm blue Rehbands, Strong. So far my favs gotta be the Stoic knee sleeves. Feel simliar to my old SBDs and about equally as difficult to put on, but super durable and cheap

    Also I use bubble baths to wash my knee sleeves. I fill the tub(I do my roller derby gear at the same time) with an average amount of bubble bath and hot hot water. Then I let the gear sit in there until the water is cool enough to handle. I hand wash the gear and then I hang to dry. If it's summer I put the gear out in the sun to dry. I'm really sweaty so I have to do this. I can't get away with not washing my stuff.

    I only have the strong sleeves. I alternate using them inside out and normal to minimize stink. When they do need a wash I use baby shampoo and air dry.

    I've used both. I find the SBDs far more comfortable. The seams on my strong sleeves started tearing apart after less than 6 months of use -extremely disappointing. No issues with the seams on the SBDs.

    Watching this video specifically because the seams at the top of both my left and right Sling Shot 2.0's burst and was looking at options to replace them. Thanks for the review! Oh, and for washing, I just take them in the shower with me when I hit the colder rinse and use my body wash since they need a 'mild soap'

    You could use a sports equipment spray for the sleeves. I’ve actually laundried my STrong knee sleeves with some sports detergent and hand washed them with dish soap. My STrong knee sleeves are still as good as I got them. Just don’t throw them in the dryer or else the material will get ruined. Air dry them instead and I think it’ll be just fine.

      How do you find the sizing? I just got the ones designed by Rich Fronning but realised they're not comp legal so had to order the ipf approved ones too. The ones I have slide on like a dream, I'm worried the new ones won't fit. I have fuckin huge calves and I can't get any sleeves on!!!

  • @juuuurgenful

    I would just like to add (as someone who trains in SBDs), they get looser over time until you wash em. I never thought about them being uncomfortable unless I use capzaicin, usually have em on for like 1-1.5 hr no problem.
    Main reason I bought SBDs though is due to availibility where I live :)

    My tip for keeping my knee sleeves from smelling. When I get home from the gym I turn them inside out and stand/prop them up so they aren't touching anything to let them dry out. And about once a week I spray with Lysol.

    What would you recommend for a newbie? Or, in your opinion, do newbies even need knee sleeves or wraps?
    Also, this might be another dumb question, but is there a specific way you wrap your California rolls? I only ask because you mentioned the versatility of them: being able to wrap where you want. Like, what are the different benefits of wrapping directly, above, or below your knee?

    • @Shyyy_la
      @Shyyy_la 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shelby Strand any one could use knee sleeves. Maybe as a newbie you don't "need" them but if you have old knee injuries it might be best to get some for the sake of not hurting yourself

  • @eljefito94

    i use eleiko knee sleeves similar to the rehbands, they arent as supportive as the ST or SBD bands, but provide better mobility, normally the eleiko ones are used to oly lifting if i am correct so they allow better mobility but are still supportive as opposed to powerlifting ones. I bought them for about $40 US i believe, really like them, would recommend as well. I am not sure but i think there are some in different sizes because i think some meets only allow certain sleeve sizes, not sure, i have had my sleeves for a little more than a year, so i dont remember anymore.

    I was excited about the vidoe topic, but a bit disappointed you didn't talk more about the Rehbands. Would you say they are a good option for an intermediate lifter with cranky knees looking to eventually get into competitive powerlifting? Because the Rehbands are actually the most affordable option where I live (in Finland). I think I can pick those up from a local sporting goods chain store for 30+ € a piece, whereas I would have to pay 80 € + 10 € shipping for SBDs - and with the Slingshots I would be looking at crazy international shipping probably ...

    • @t.durham6251
      @t.durham6251 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This video came at the perfect time! I'm about to buy my first pair of knee sleeves, and I think I'm going to go with the slingshot 2.0. If I am right in between sizes would you say I should go with the smaller size since these are a little more stretchy then say a SBD? I'm right in between the medium and a large.

  • @pintobean8935

    Thank you for doing this video. And keeping us non-competitors in mind as well :). I do have a Q about sizing though, for example, for SBD, what size would you recommend getting for home every day heavy lifting or when someone decides to compete (true to size, a size bigger or smaller?). I don't compete yet. Although, I do plan to at some point in the future and I'm not young like you :D.
    Also, would you mind doing a video on powerlifting belts? Lever and buckle, what to look for, types, when do you recommend etc.. I do own a lever one but it is not a inzer or anything. For either competitors or general lifters purpose. Thanks!

    I actually just tried my new SBD knee sleeves today. I watched a lot of reviews before I decided to go with them. This review is quite good, of course :) I got the recommended size since I only want them for training. I definitely know they are on, but they are not cutting off blood supply or anything. Even with that sizing I definitely noticed a bit of bounce at the bottom of my squat and my knees aren't sore after doing 5 sets like they have been lately. They are definitely not super easy to get on, but I think it'll get a little easier with practice. Once on, they were fine for my whole workout. Any tighter would definitely be quite uncomfortable. I got SBD elbow sleeves as well, they are also ok for whole workout with recommended size. Overall, I was quite happy with the SBD's, but they are also the only ones I have tried.
    My philosophy is this kinda gear is for protecting me from injury and general wear and tear to aid longevity. As such, I think this is definitely a good argument for quality over price. The full list of stuff I went with (thus far) is a custom made leather belt from Pioneer (design is similar to the one meg showed in this video, is that a pioneer belt?), SBD knee and elbow sleeves, Gangsta wrist wraps from Mark Bell and I'm trying out Cobra grips instead of straps since I'm lazy :D Mark Bell's stuff was usually my 2nd choice for everything, except for his wrist wraps which I think have a superior design.
    Far as style goes, well, once I got SBD knee and elbow sleeves, I knew I was just going to have to be black and red in the gym for everything else lol.

    As a Aussie is really wish the Australian version of the strong sleeves didn't look so horrid! Go a bit lighter on the crazy colours!

    At what point should someone start using knee sleeves?

    • @LinetteArroyo

      Anastassia Doktorova I like to use mine when I’m doing movements that bend at the knee. For example: heavy squats, lunges, box jumps, snatches, squat cleans, etc. I hope this helped! ☺️

    I love my MB2 STrong sleeves! They're the camo limited style. Am in the market for a lighter pair though so this is helpful :)

    I think STrong are stiffer than SBD, but that line in the back of the SBDs give me more rebound. BTW I wear size S (although I have a highly beat up pair of M) and have 26" thighs 8" above the knee and 16" calves unflexed. Wash in the shower or sink with soap and water, not that difficult. Titan Yellow Jackets give less rebound, but are easier to put on and seem like they will hold up even longer than STrong, so if anybody wants to buy my lightly used size S, let me know.
