- Hammock camping can be AMAZING!
I used to jump into one of those classic weaved hammocks and snooze for hours. But wake up a bit sore and crammed.
There are some pretty awesome setups out there, keep an eye out for a Bridge Hammock if your a side sleeper, and make sure it has a mosquito net, and slot to slide in a sleeping pad.
Also test to see how stable they are!!!
I've had this one for years, and it's made by @warbonnetoutdoors and called a RidgeRunner.
Disclaimer: I made this on my own without any affiliation with them. I just love quality gear!

Depending on where you are you might want to pack 2 sturdy trees as well.
can't setup a hammock anywhere, but you also can't setup a tent anywhere either.
@@pedroclaro7822 you can with the right gear. Tensa outdoors makes trekking trees. Then you don’t need trees at all.
In that case you’re able to set up a hammock anywhere’s.
Lol
Bring trekking trees. That's a perfect solution as indicated by others.
@@pedroclaro7822 they make little tents that just fit to cots.
Wild bear: oh look a burrito alright this is going to be an awesome day

To sleep flat in a standard hammock lie diagonally this enables you to sleep more comfortably.
During my teenage years I slept in a maya hammock with no discomfort.
Yes. Diagonal layer is flatter than what is show in video.
He's using a bridge hammock. They're designed to be use length way, not on a diagonal.
@@fearsomefawkes6724 but if that requires you to bend your body uncomfortably . . .
Some of my BEST sleep have come from hammocks. I love my bed but there's something magical about a hammock sleep every once in a while.
Once I slept in my hammock and when I woke up I thought I was in my bed that’s how comfy it was
@@Bombonyanushammocks fkn rule
For sure! Done right nothing beats them.
*We have been using 4 Season Hennessy Hammock tents for a few years now and in addition to everything you highlighted, I've included just one collapsible tent pole and four tent stakes with each hammock in order to be able to set them up on the ground like normal tents when there are absolutely no trees or elevated attachments available (open fields and beaches).*
I slept a couple of nights in a hammock when I traveled the Amazon in Brazil, and we had spreader bars, and it was very comfortable! Probably because of the spreader bars!
That’s awesome!

Been hammock sleeping 10+ years love it
Insert for the mattress, though usually unnecessary provides insulation. Great ideas and innovations.
My son slept in his hammock all through our vacation this year. He loved it.
Replace spreader bars with trekking poles, and I'm sold
Hennessy hammock for this old boy! Best sleeps of my life.
Ya I've heard great things about those!
We were in a coconut palm Grove in Mexico put a hammock between two trees laying there with the sound of the ocean reading a book next thing you know you're asleep for like 6 hours fantastic sleeping.
Gotta be careful setting up anything under coconut trees as a falling coconut can kill you, especially if you're doing something that shakes the trunk even a little bit. People who have leaned against a coconut tree to take a have been injured or even killed.
This is a cool hammock and I like the idea that some of them can come with a blow up mattress cross bars as well as a mosquito net and a tarp to keep the rain out
Didnyou really feel the need to say what you did lol. You sound like a salesman lol 🤡
Do you know which ones come with all of those extras that you mentioned?
I have a Vietnam era jungle hammock I use while backpacking. It's the most essential piece of my kit, and nothing beats that "old b bag" smell.
I did enough camping spreading sleeping cots out in the field during my tours in the military. On one occasion I found a Scorpion inside my sleeping bag. It is no joke when in the military you are told to shake your boots vigorously because of unknown hitchhikers. In Iraq I constantly shook my boots and sleeping bag, and swept my living space because of Camel Spiders, which are actually non-poisonous, but aggressive tailless Scorpions.
I’ve always heard Camel Spiders (despite their cosmically horrifying appearance) are only aggressive when provoked, and even then it takes a lot of provoking.
Though I would hazard a guess that being stepped on in a shoe, or rolled onto from inside a sleeping bag, might sufficiently piss one off enough. But I’ve never seen or encountered one in person, so I wouldn’t know.
I've been looking into sari hammocks, myself. They're really long, though some extra cordage to tie them is probably a good idea, and instead of taking up room in your pack, you wear it as a garment. Because that's what it is, a garment that has this extra use.
This is such a cool idea, but I cannot find any media on them. Where do you find them?
@zacherybutter7349 Therein lies my problem.... I'm not sure of what other things I can search under, so I can't find much either, except for "don't have babies nap in them because of health risks". I'm mostly going off of a sari's dimensions, and fabric and cordage with good weight allowances and water proofness. They won't end up being as pretty as saris CAN be, but in the west, the trend seems to be eschewing form, and going only for function anyway.
And the nice thing is? From what I've seen, Indian culture has been very open to sharing food and fashion with anyone who is interested. So you can ignore anyone who isn't from India if they complain about cultural appropriation.
Edit: When I get one, I'll be buying fabric and making it myself. There are some places that will cut the fabric for you, so that will remove some worry about keeping your cuts straight.
@@snakes_shadow3539 interesting.
Makes a nice taco for bears
bushcraft channels have evolved, this is an evolution
You should talk about going to ground as well. Most tent campers aren't aware of the true versatility of a hammock!
Bridge hammock, a real game changer!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Back ache and freezing cold has been my experience and I've tried a few times
Ya, what type of sleeping mat do you use?
The one I’m using is an R7 - which is a very high thermal value, and about 3.5” tall. So also high comfort. I’ve used it in -25C with a -20 bag and have been fine.
Then you're doing it all wrong...learn what you should carry, and what you shouldn't, dress in layers, use the correct "R" value sleeping mat, and a down filled sleeping bag rated for the area you live in or are camping in...it's not just throwing up a tent or hammock with sleeping bag, there's so much more to camping, and doing it as comfortable as possible.
Use a thick pair of wool socks & a wool or cashmere sweater (thin cashmere is fine w/turtle neck & coat. Hat too!
@@wakranich3488 may as well just carry a tent and a ground pad if I need all that extra gear tho
Need an underquilt...
I like spraying my stuff with repellent as well as using turnbuckles for tighter hammock use.
I like the ground hammock
You can't fall out, when asleep,
And you can sleep on your side
Hammocks cripple my back, and I don't even have back problems.
☹️ I really didn't want to read that, as I have back problems and was really wanting a hammock.
Strangely enough, me too, and I'm also 80 percent scottish.
The spreader bars should fix the back problems. If your setup can't incorporate them, then lie diagonally, this will allow you to sleep flat, not U shaped.
Have since bought a cheap hammock, no back pain or stiffness. Excellent night's sleep.
Here I was liking my normal eno. I might need to make some upgrades!
That’s great good luck with it and I look forward to getting one.
Never a bored moment on this channel and never swipe before 7 watching, deeply learning, impressive aha’s!!
We've had spreader bar hammocks for years, but this is somewhat better.
Something I need to try! I don’t sleep well on my back is the only problem.
Right on, ya give it a go, and see if it works for your side sleeping!
Truth is: if it's not summer AND not windy you'll want that tarp over and around you.
You'll need some isolation under you, be it a mattress or an underquilt, but you can get away with a light closed cell foam pad that would be uncomfy on the ground, point given.
You'll also want some blanket over you.
It won't usually be much lighter to carrya hammock setup than a tent, you'll need all the other stuff you take for camping as well.
But you'll need to find two trees in the right distance in a nice spot. This can be a challenge, too, been there and done that. You don't need flat ground but you also don't want a steep incline. Sliding down a hill first thing when you get up isn't ideal.
And you'll need to put your backpack or other stuff somewhere, think about that, too. On the bare ground is no good place in heavy rain.
Hammock camping might require more planning than you initially think, just keep that in mind.
Im a side sleeper and prefer a standard hammock. The best way is sleep diagonally and I prefer going about 4/5 of the way on my side. Sometimes ai end up going past my side and start sleeping 1/4 of the way towards my stomache. The only way gammocks are really uncomfortable are for sleeping directly on your back because it squeezes your shoulders.
Loved my bug net hammock... perfect for my chronic back pain
I got a good hammock tent, has another tarp rolled up on the end for rain. Rolls up much tighter and smaller than a ground tent.
Can u name the model ?
Wow...
All your videos are just wow...!
That looks pretty cool.
Absolutely awesome! I didnt know that it was possible to lay flat in the Hammock! Thanks for sharing 🤠🌲👋
Lay on the diagonal, it straightens right out. No banana sleeping.

I don't really see a hammock working in Southern Arizona there are some trees but you don't want to touch them because they're covered in thorns or scorpions the Thorns would be a Palo Verde and the Scorpions are in Mesquite
It depends where you backpack. Above tree line, big trees far apart, plains or desert. I always have a harder time finding a hammock spot. They shine when you’re on miles of steep mountains.
Good luck with that when a bear comes to sniff around 😂

Hammocks rule. I've spent a few weeks in one and it's freeing being able to sleep wherever with something that takes up as much space as a 2L bottle. I always dress in layers so warmth isn't a drawback.
With a fly/tarp overhead it is better than a tent in my opinion. Takes like 5 minutes to set up and there's no worry of breaking poles.
Great! I've got the spreader bars, now I just need a hammock. 😜
Not the same kind of spreader bars.
But knowing a bit about rigging will help you with most knots you'd use in survival situations. So there's that.
Slept in a hammock most of my army career, fantastic for sleeping in a swamp. Set it up just an inch above the water and you're still stealthy
