This is so helpful. My main incentive for buying my MacBook was for entertainment and I have now found the Music app on my iPad pretty useless. I only have access to music, and videos I bought before they put a stop to it!! I can’t buy anymore but the video I most want is available on TH-cam. So I’m going to subscribe to TH-cam.

As ever a concise and very useful explanation of how to use the Music app on its various ways… some of the content I am already using but only after a good few months of ferreting around in the options etc and there are some settings/options I hadn’t got to such as where to get the track names for a CD - very useful for when the CD isn’t recognized immediately. Sounds like you have lots going on so I don't know how I can help. If you have the ripped files, you can still access them using iTunes Match if you removed them from your Mac and relied on Apple Music to store those and didn't think to re-download them before cancelling Apple Music. @@macmost I am sorry for my previous lack of clarity. I hope this clears up my questions.
      1) A number of years ago- say 15- I had Apple Music match. They uploaded about 30,000 of my songs to iCloud, converted them to higher quality, then were available to all my devices. After a number of years they canceled match and I was no longer able to see any of those songs in Apple Music, or access via iCloud. A few years ago after buying a new iPhone, I had Apple Music free for 3 months. I noticed all my old music was immediately available. Then after my three months trial all the music was gone.
So, I know my music is on iCloud, but I don't know any way to access it. Is there a way without subscribing to Apple Music to be able to access my old music that was uploaded to iCloud many years ago?
      2) If, I can't access that music. Is there a way to get those 30,000 songs moved into Apple Music without moving them in one album at a time like you mentioned in your last response to me?
      Thank you! Bob Hendricks.

I can access my own library which contains ripped CD's and MP3's previously purchased via iTunes. But I can't find a search bar to search for new music to buy. There are adverts for some cheap songs to download but they are not ones I have an interest in. I did find one post on the web that stated that you can no longer purchase music via iTunes, you have to subscribe to Apple Music, is that correct?

You certainly can purchase new music from iTunes. Not sure where you read something that said otherwise. Just go to Music, Settings, General and check Show: iTunes Store. Then look for iTunes in the left sidebar.

So, I've got Version 1.4.6.32 of Apple Music, on Sonoma 14.6.1 which appears to be the latest version for my M1 MAC mini. I don't see the Search options you show, because (as you stated) I do have a subscription to Apple Music. I've tried to keep my music separate due to a big problem I had before this with Apple's previous service "iTunes Match" whereby it got confused between their Music and my Ripped CDs. With my MAC mini if I plug the SuperDrive into a USB extender it doesn't recognize it!
