Great footage. Sadly Geelong is no longer the home to US car manufacturer Ford Australia nor are cars made in any other city. From a peak production of 500,000 vehicles per year to the closure of all plants must rank as one of the worlds fastest manufacturing reversals. I do wonder if Australia understands the long term ramifications of the loss of both the jobs and the skills of car making.
I remember taking 55 minutes for my Mini, in 1962, to go through North Melbourne, Footscray, Werribee bypass, northern suburbs to East Geelong. Far more interesting than a boring M1. Now, I take the train. But, many thanks for this.
@FreewayBrent .. Hi Brent - yes this freeway runs through a lot of agricultural land - in fact most of the out of city freeways are like that - I am planning on doing a few more of these rides. Melb. to Ballarat. Melb. to Bendigo. Melb to Warrigul. Melb. to Seymour. All have freeways now, and all will be quite different to look at.
Hey! I really enjoy your time-lapse trips--very interesting. I've watched your hyperlapse from Melbourne to Sydney countless times. I live in the US (Arkansas) & I love & am fascinated with all things Australian. I've seen a good bit of your beautiful country via Google Streetview. Please keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching! I have a few more road trips on other channels too. they are compiled together in this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLjSvZVTanJ-VZ0qxmHHi6S3hPwiReytzM.html
Very cool, GoJo, at a point you got into a very cool trance where the road seemed to be almost still and the clouds and the scenery were the only ones moving.
Awesome as usual! I'm liking how you've presented the last few videos as pieces of a puzzle for us to assemble. It's a nice surprise as I see this. I'm floored!
I'm loving every single minute of your Melbourne freeway and tollway series of videos. Jim mentioned that this drive reminds him a bit of the scenery you would encounter, leaving the major cities along the eastern seaboard of the U.S. That's a pretty accurate comparison (especially heading west out of Washington D.C. along I-66). However, I think a better comparison would be California State Highway 99 in the Central Valley. Mostly 6 lanes and runs through agricultural landscapes.
@1943actros fuel is about $1.45 / lt. The road system is a mixture, here in Melbourne it is very much european / US mix, while in Sydney it has a more British flavour. The road system is more state based than national, so quite a few differences are noticed when you travel around the country ..
Some questions though. Is that stretch tolled and is it standard to have fuel stations along the line? You don't see that in the states. Also, is all of Highway 1 four-lane at least?
Hello dear Geoff, we made a nice trip again with you but so fast that the police did'nt get you and you did not had to pay hahahaha. Happy weekend, ♥♥Jeannette♥♥
@Aussieroadgeek .. yes I struck the road when there was not too much traffic, between Xmas and NY - normally I think there would be a lot more weaving around - especially by me! lol
@Arthur40TwoDent .. yes a great area Nick - I watched your GOR vid using google - clever stuff will share with my US FB friends who have been asking for some video of the road down there ..

Nice! This just makes me want to visit Australia someday.
It would be a cool (but very) long term project to capture the complete Highway 1.
