    Great conversation 👌
To the question "is utopia possible?" I think professor Laurie Daniels Favors is spot on. We have to focus and commit to creating the institutions that incubate our individual and collective genius. We come from the mothers and fathers of civilization - of course we can recreate utopia...But I suggest that we first write the script of the vision/utopia we want, and then we film it (the blueprint) to educate, facilitate, indoctrinate and collaborate with like minds of different expertise/bricks to build it...If we film it, they will build it, and if we build it they will come! "The clean glass!!"
As a new member of Knubia and Knarrative I totally see that you Professor Hunter have built the platform to vision - create and self-fund the cooperative/collective institutions to incubate our communities collective empowerment!!
I'd be honored to bring my brick! Peace and love

Octavia Butler is an absolute prophet hands down. As I read Parable of the Sower, I had to keep checking to see when the book was written and published. And the "make America great again" slogan knocked me out my chair. I went right into Parable of the Talents. Simply I am shook to my core. Thank you for the introduction to Octavia and her prophetic works. Thank you Karen. Thank you.

Happy 75th birthday Octavia Butler discussion. Thanks to the panel's revelations on who she was and how she was elevating herself through her stories. Chronicling mankinds journey of being the best and worst humans. Breaking boundaries of social constructs, cultural norms, and realms of consciousness. The last book of the trilogy, 'parable of the trickster' is be worked out in real time. Some work in inner development can get stuck, but with help of the trickster, the gurus and ancestors the third trilogy is reaching its climax. The answer is in the question. Good intentions all.

My African dance community introduced me to Octavia Butler in the late 80s. Wildseed I read first and it is still my favorite book by Octavia Butler although I love them all. I tracked down all of her books, even Survivor, a linage of the Pattern Master series, which she didn't never reprinted. I had a chance to ask her why at a book reading in Oakland, Ca and she stated she didn't like it. I eventually found it in a library and read it. Although I enjoyed it, it felt rushed and didn't quite measure up to the other books in the series. lThank you for this conversation in celebration of her.

Lurie is my woman crush all day. I found octavia butler as a 12yr old! Her works have been criminally overlooked!! Ive read them all but kindred and wild seed need movies or tv series asap!! Wild seed is my favorite period!!! It is so rich and needs its own series. I love all the bleakness and trauma because its real. Its life. I reject all sense of control. So i loved the questioning of everything.

Professor Hunter! You’re the goat (period full stop in your voice). I only learned about Octavia through listening to your show, and I’ve sense told many of my friends about her.
I can only hope but think why is it now in the 2020’s that I’m finding out about her? Where was this marvelous writer when I was in my twenty’s in undergrad? Nonetheless, thank you for all you do and all the great people you’ve introduced us too! The pyramid you’re building with Knubia/Knarrative is much needed.
Soon, I hope to be on your radio show being interviewed and bringing my brick!

Two things connected with me from the conversation. One, I have, even before reading the works of Octavia Butler, been drawn to the notion of God being change. Throughout the bible God repeatedly says I am coming in a new way. Renew your mind. In most sacred text the Divine is seen as moving in a fluid way. This is why the concept of conservatism, conserving anything other than spiritual values, seems to go against the very nature of God.Two, when Lurie spoke of a person talking to themselves as being tapped into an alternate reality, it reminded of Emanuel Swedenborg a 18th century theologian and mystic who wrote about his believe that this is what was going on on a spiritual level and he worked with people from this perspective. He also wrote about his spiritual experiences interacting with those other realms. So, thank you for bringing me to the intersection of these two concepts as I pick them up again.

Lurie's take on Octavia's Butler's question 'Who is God to whomever' is spot on!!! Perhaps ppl can also add as an interpretation of Adam & Eve's story in Genesis: Change is inevitable and occurs on this plane/planet constantly. With growth on the horizon, staying in the garden, was not an option. Also Lurie's take on culture driving & what the alternative looks like and has the potential to produce is also profound.

    • @KarenHunterShow
      @KarenHunterShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

What does it mean to be "Latino"? Is that a language? What is culture? Who are your people? And why do you so easily identify with a group? I am Black because whiteness, a power construct (destruct), created a powerful global group in juxtaposition and I aim to make it so. Where do "Latinos" fit in this power construct?

    Wow!
I posted this in Knubia yesterday:
I was scanning through the book, Where Do We Go From Here & came across this sentence in chapter one where MLK wrote,
“The Negro was no longer a subject of change; he was the active organ of change.”
Octavia Butler wrote, “God is change.”
After reading MLK and Octavia Butler’s words, I think humans are the heart, figuratively speaking, that causes this *aloof Entity to be responsive, attentive, engaging…
*Acts 10:34 said it; not me.

Testimony: How genderism you got its life! When I woke up to our Nubian roots nobody told me how man crazy some of our women are! I mean having two women sleeping with one man calling that marriage, I know I am a senior, but HUH? Men had women so twisted and crazy over them, that we had to practically reinvent “black women” we still have a long way to go, but we not as loopy as we once were! Grateful for what lil we got! So once the sisters revived and stop fighting over power and men, we made some strides, this ignited the the third reconstruction, but hold on some wealthy “haters” that was never a part of the reconstruction of “black women” as men started to chime in, and I am an original “black women” advocate, so when those who wanted to push me out and of play, came in like a recking ball, and tried to imply they were married and well adjusted, We exposed that Jaren as a gold digging hussy! I am not what they expected in the real wives club! None the better, a bad marriage is bad on all levels! So we reconstructed Marriage to include the hard core black family that did not mind struggling with a man who chase other women long enough to give our household a dancing chance! Here us is, flawed but helpful! Men not the only bread winners? So we want our play pals as well! Hello? End Testimony, even in a man’s life a woman can earn income? Peace
