    Enough cant be said about the genius of Beethoven. Unreal.

    The tender loving care of the musicians for the composer and his great love for the cello is tangible in every sense: something sacred becomes immortal in such play.

    This is one of the most inspired works of the so-called "first manner" of Beethoven. In addition, the two sonatas op. 5 are the first ones fior cello and piano in the history of music where the cello takes its independance ( not speaking of the sonatas for harpsichord and viola di gamba of JSB, of course). We have a very beutiful rendering , very deep and sensitive, by Rostropovitch and Richter. I understand those who find the rondo too fast, but this is an interesting and very beethovenian contrast with the opening slow and meditative movement.

      Actually I find other recordings of the Rondo too slow, since I first was exposed to it from Rostropovich. There's a time for slow, but the Rondo doesn't seem to be the time for it.

Jahrhundert!

      When children are exposed at a young age to this type of music, as part of their natural environment, then they can appreciate it. I did, I do and I hope so do my children, age 16 and 22.

    so, why are some of the best musicians from Russia?
    Horowitz....Heifetz, Rostropovich, Richter
    it is so sad that people aren't aware of real music. I once let a kid in the Congo listen to my Ipod (Glen Gould playing Back)...the look on that kid's face was marvelous

    How can they play the Rondo so fast? I've played that sonata and that movement is the hardest. In my opinion, it should be a little bit slower. The Rondo can be played with so many colours!! And I think, because of the tempo here, can't be heard as it should be (:!

    • @meredith218461
      @meredith218461 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      I disagree, for me this is wonderfully spirited playing with supreme technical control, Richter's dexterity is truly phenomenal. The tempo in controversially fast but these amazing musicians make it work.
