Good simple video. My friend told me about keeping my hand over my head however I was missing the carve which you talked about in this video. Short videos are better than long ones when learning a new technique. Thanks for the short video.
The knowledge sharing is greatly appreciated. I remember when kiting first started becoming popular, it seemed like real information about technique and equipment was impossible to find, and that made it pretty hard to get in to the sport.
GREAT VIDEO. You make the best and most informative program for me. At the moment, the offer is still manageable, but there is little comparison test with all the current boards and wings in the market. With increasing driving skills, the desire for better material inevitably follows, pushing the limits further up. Keep it up .....
Thank you. Everything is new and yes I’m sure we will see the equipment improving quickly with future generations of wings, foils and board designs improving.
blueplanetsurf - thank you for making this video. I found it very helpful. Will watch it several more times before I venture out on the Duotone 5m wing. Our wind is usually light here in SoCal, which could be good for learning. It’s definitely the jibing and turning that I’m nervous about (I have zero wind experience, but a lot of foil time). I’ll let you know how it goes! Mahalo and aloha! 🤙🏻 🌈 🏄🏻 ☀️
Great video and nice jibes! I am also working on changing my foot position during the jibe as I don't use straps. Something to consider in another video perhaps. The Duotone Wing seems nice for jibing as the hand placement does not have be as exact as the wings held with small hand straps.
Thank you. I have not tried switching my stance yet and like using the straps so far. I can see how switching the stance without coming off the foil would be challenging. Yes, the boom on the Duotone makes it easy to grab the wing without looking and allows you to slide the hand to adjust the grip which I find easier than using a wing with hand loops.
Good question, in this video I have an overhand grip with my front hand and I switch the grip in the middle of the jibe. Lately, I switch the front hand to underhand grip before going into the jibe or when the wing de-powers in the jibe, this allows me to hold and flip the wing with just the front hand and grab it with the back hand after completing the turn. For some examples of that technique, watch this video: th-cam.com/video/PprmrIJ-59E/w-d-xo.html
@@blueplanetsurf From my windsurfing days, we would ride with the front hand normally underhand, but switch to overhand before jibing. I'm using an Ozone 4M with straps in gusty Maui conditions and my fingers, especially my ring fingers, have gotten crazy sore. Have you heard of other riders having that issue?
Hi Kurt, good to hear from you, I hope you are enjoying your board in Fiji. Gear used: 5’8 Blue Planet Carver Foilboard 5 M Duotone wing foil 1580 Carver Foil Wind: 10-15 knots
I have been riding without switching my stance so I only need one strap in the front. You only need two front straps if you switch your stance every time you transition.
I like the video and it illustrates well how to do the jibe. My question is - since you’re not changing your stance isn’t it awkward to have the wing behind you on that tack? It seems like it would put a lot of torque on your back.
I use footstraps and keep my stance the same both directions so yes my body is twisted on one tack but I got used to it and it does not bother my back.
Very good explications for the wing, but you don't change your feet position(front to back) after the jibe ? You stay in regular position (left foot forward) all the times ?
Hi Joanathan, I'm using the 5'8 x 114L Blue Planet Carver Foilboard with the 1580 Carver Foil wing. We are currently sold out of the Carver Foilboards but will have them in stock again next week here: www.blueplanetsurf.com/sups/foil-sups/ For more information watch this video: th-cam.com/video/dVM_5GF7CBw/w-d-xo.html
Jybing from heel side to toe side is NOT jybing! Please please please if you are going to teach jybing, be sure to show changing feet, heel side on one tack to heel side on the other tack. Its relatively easy to jybe to toe side, but that is not fully jybing. You need to be able to change foot position.
I'm a bit confused by your comment. The way I understand it is: Jibing is a sailing term and simply means turning downwind through the wind while tacking is turning upwind through the wind. This has nothing to do with how your feet are placed on the board, jibing only means turning downwind. Since I like to use footstraps for jumps and control, I keep my feet placed the same direction going either way, so while the jibe sequence in the video is a toeside turn, the video also shows some heel side jibes when I'm jibing back the other way. Regardless of which way my toes are pointing, if I turn downwind it is a jibe, if I turn upwind it is called tacking. If you switch your stance so your toes are always facing the wing, all your jibes would be toeside (weight on your toes) and you would never have to do a heel side jibe (weight on your heels). I guess you mean to say that my jibe is not a jibe because I don't switch my stance? Switching the stance without coming off the foil is not something I have tried and I can see how it would be a very tricky thing to do without dropping the board down onto the water, perhaps you could make a video showing how you do it?
Let us all bow our heads in a moment of silence to observe and acknowledge the infinite amount of patience required by Robert to maintain this very helpful Channel.

Glad to hear this video is still helpful. Yes it’s key to keep turning and not just head straight downwind 🤙🏼

LOVE to see new Videos from you guys!!!!
Great to hear, we will keep ‘em coming!
Really appreciate the videos, keep them coming please.
Will do, thank you Zack! 🤙🏼
Thanks a lot for this video!
Glad you liked it! 😎🤙🏼
Robert, You are “killing it” on all aspects of the foil. 🙌 PS: Happy Birthday today (Sat).
Thank you Michael, it looks like I’m getting nice conditions for my B-day today, I’m getting ready to go wingfoiling with my friends.

a little simplistic and i am insulted that this guy is already jibbing after a few sessions I must live in an unparallel universe
I had been windsurfing for may years before, so that made it easy to learn wing foiling
