Nigel, why oh why are you so critical of these shots, you have just been to one of the most inhospitable places on earth and come back with masses of brilliant images, I would have been doing cartwheels of joy getting these images. Cheer up, these pictures are brilliant.

Hi Nigel! Excellent video and stunning photos. I would be interested in seeing the difference between some of the raw files and the final images, and perhaps some insight into your process for editing these types of photos. How did you get the snow to appear so beautifully white while preserving the detail of the textures and colors? The colors, especially, are just absolutely perfect and balanced in luminosity, hue, and saturation. Would you be willing to provide an instructional video for these photos? It would be a great help for anyone shooting snow and ice covered landscapes. Thank you for continuing to provide quality content. As an aspiring artist, I am grateful for everything you do that inspires me to keep at it.

The penguing on An iceberg with a mountain in the backgroud could be next winner of „birds in environment” category of Bird photographer of the year if only You Enter it. It’s such An amazing piece of art. Amazing shots but this one had me in awe for a while. Great video!!!

Great photos and prints, especially that giant pano from a couple videos back.
If you need a video idea while your knee is healing, maybe a matte paper printing tutorial on some of those images for those of us that love to print regardless of the cost! Maybe something along how to deal with the reduced tonal range, especially for shadows or darker overall images, and preserving the delicate snow detail, yet making the snow bright, print sharpening, etc. Something a little deeper than the basics of monitor calibration and ICC paper profiles. I love printing as well, and have a general preference for matte, but sometimes struggle with the range of matte paper, and your prints always look fantastic.

Fully agree… having an wild animal in his environment, showing more than the face of the animal, make the image showing “real-whildlife” is what I aiming for… but, what a challenge as the foreground much match the background… it adds a challenge thing to the journey of being a ‘wild-scape “ photographer 😂

Just stunning! Really, really like that one of the penguin on the iceberg with the mountains in the background. Best environmental portrait I ever saw, bar none. Close up portraits of animals are fine, but nothing beats a scene like this. One like this gives a good sense of being there, longevity, something totally lost by a closeup eliminating the background.

Love the "wildscape" word and all of the images from Antarctica, thank you! Have inadvertently done a couple of wildscapes ... large ngorongoro landscape with a "small" elephant dwarfed by the crater sides, and a pod of "small" orca dwarfed by sea and far shore pine forest.

Nigel, some very beautiful images. I especially like your "wildscapes" where everything about the images is so minimal and the great use of negative space (snow). I especially like the one with the 3 penguins moving through the highway and the glacier filling the left area of the image: the contrast of the texture with the surrounding snow balances the image so well. Glad you made the most of your trip.

Then I saw the bird with the glacier abstract and THEN I saw the lone penguin on the iceberg. Beautiful every one. I love the concept of shooting "Wildscapes" especially for those of us that don't own bank account-draining 800mm f/4/400mm f/2.8 lenses! And I guess the term "Landlifes" could work to describe this type of photography as well. Thanks again!

Excellent video to demonstrate what works and doesn't when combining wildlife and landscapes. The landscape photographer's natural tendency to balance the "three grounds" most often conflicts with the wildlife photographers desire to isolate, simplify and fill the frame with a primary object. I do feel you did capture several lovely images within the context of a most difficult environmental challenge. Well done.
