Gosh, I haven't watched Boyce Avenue in a few years & somehow stumbled onto this. Absolutely stunning & breathtaking! Obviously Dolly is the OG & then came Whitney & now Boyce. The 3 best versions of this song that exists.
Dolly wrote this song in an evening as a way to tell Porter Wagoner that she was breaking away & going her own way. She had struggled to find the time & the words, then came this timeless song - in an evening - from one person. The very next day Dolly would play this for Porter & he cried hard. He agreed to let her go if he was able to produce the song for her. The rest is (incredible) history.
