  • He’s one of the greatest scorers in basketball history.A genuine throwback whose jab-stepping, iso-heavy arsenal set him apart in the age of efficiency, for better or worse. A living legend whose trademark celebration is imitated, but never duplicated, on courts around the world by his fans and detractors alike.

      What I loved about Melo is that he took the challenge of trying to win while his classmates teamed up and won together. Perhaps if Melo took the same way as theirs, he probably won too but his perspective on winning all while actually grinding and him leading is respectable.

    • @Matt-cr4vv
      @Matt-cr4vv 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Melon doesn’t get respect because he was always so focused on his own best interests even if it handcuffed his teams from ever being able to acquire depth of a roster to surround him and have a chance at contending for something. He will always be seen as what he was for basically his entire prime: A strong scorer who didn’t play defense, solely looked out for his own self interest at every stage and didn’t care if the focus on what was best for him like having strong individual stars or making the most money he could resulted in his team not winning or contending for anything. In his years as the #1 player on his team he made it past the first round two times ever and in New York he pumped out a ton of stats but the team was bad for most of the seasons he was there. Nothing is truly a better example than how he forced the trade to the Knicks, and gutted their roster and their assets to have a strong roster or acquire other talented players to their team, when there was genuinely no need to do so. It was well known they both sides wanted the other and he could simply sign with the team that offseason and join a competent roster but because he was worried about the impending CBA and wanted to make sure he got his money he forced the trade and depleted everything the Knicks had that could have led to a competitive team.
      Then when free agency came around and the team needed some cap space to assemble a roster that would be a winning team he stayed and took the maximum he could and basically made it impossible to build anything. And the years on the new deal the team was absolutely terrible but as usual he had strong stats. He never sacrificed a thing for his team to be better until the end of his career when he didn’t have a choice if he wanted to keep playing. So while he was very good at scoring he will never get the praise of a lot of legends because he never won, focused on himself at all times, and openly showed how unimportant winning truly was to him by openly making choices that prevented his teams from ever doing so. And that’s just not what fans have ever praised as the traits that we see as legendary even if the player himself was really good.

    I have an uncommon opinion on Melo as a Nuggets fan since before 2000: I don’t care a bit for the dude, even when he played for us. I never liked his selfishness and arrogance. He had the talent to be a winning all round star but chose not to play defense or a winning style of basketball, so he grossly underachieved in his career compared to his potential. And Even if he was a hall of fame level scoring talent, he still was never THE best, overshadowed by the likes of Kobe and the rest of his 2003 draft class mates during his prime. And as a Taiwanese American, what he did to Lin in NY was simply unforgivable. I for one hope ME-lo remains ringless when he retires.

    Melo chased fame and money and it cost him championships. Chicago was the right move after New York. Nothing against getting your money, id have a hard time turning down an extra 100k let alone extra millions, but its apparent he valued playing in New York ASAP vs. making smart moves that got him wins. He could and should have waited for FA to go to New York. Denver was an a top seed after the Melo trade, remember that. If Melo waited for FA, New York would have had all those assets to put together a really competitive team but getting Melo ASAP was more important than competing long-term at a high level and preserving their future. I think Melo made some mistakes and I wish we could have seen him at higher levels more often. Everything I said was just outta the "what could have been space". We and he deserved to play for championships, not bottom 4 seeds. Sad we didnt get to see it.

    I always wanted to see Melo win a chip, just as he did at Syracuse in '03, however what I wanted vs. Melo's decision to just be a one dimensional player would set his career in stone. I have always been a good judge of characters when it comes to seeing talent, I saw it in a young M.J., Duncan, Pippen, Rodman, Isaiah(Zeke), Shaq, Kobe, Ginobili, Kawhi, Curry, L.B.J., Wade, Klay, Draymond, K.G. and the list goes on! A few years back I remember Chauncey Billups who played alongside Melo back in '07-'09 with the Nuggets stated that after the Nuggets would win a game and Melo had 15-20 points, he was very disappointed but when they lost a game by 20 and Melo had 30 or 40 points he loved it. What I'm getting at is Chauncey was saying that he didn't feel that winning was the priority when it came to basketball, because after they won and the whole team pitched in(Melo didn't like that)because he wasn't the reason why they won, on the flip side whenever they got blown out by 20 points and Melo scored big he was happy with that! I never like the way he ran Lin out of N.Y., always felt that team was probably his best chance at winning a title, but as I stated above winning wasn't the priority anymore, Money and La La became his focal point!!!

Melo being the best player on the floor in most of those playoffs means nothing when you dont have a second co star. Also how dare you mention klay Thompson like he anything close to good as Melo! nah. Melo avg 20 points for 14 seasons str8 can't be overrated nice try tho. his efficiency was great considering that fact he never played with anyone in his prime🤷🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️

    Melo went to Portland,LAL, and Chicago too late. More than likely he would had a better shot at a title.

      When Rose and Butler was there he could have signed there but chose the money with NYK.

      @@futureDreamer4 he would have taken a tremendous paycut for him to do so I remember. You telling me you would go to another job because your coworkers are slightly better (stills has faults) and it's an easier job closer to your crib but pays less. Or stay at your current job and get your pay raise you earned ?. I hate when people try to.make this bulls argument if they would actually look it up that drose and Joakim Noah stayed hurt!!! That's when they declined badly. Plus the players they would of had to give up just to fit Melo in he was better off staying with NY and making his money cuz he Def wasn't going no where with that team. 2014-2016 look it up rose and Noah was not what they use to be

      @@nilesmaxwell758 we have seen Melo on team USA that cared about winning over money and scoring. The year he could have went to Chicago Noah was healthy I believe

      @@futureDreamer4 didn't I just say look it up for yourself? Your going off a guess which makes believe you have no idea what your talking about and going off of everybody else cuz this debate is getting old. Noah was not good 2014-2015 like I said him and rose were declined by then he played 67 games but only put up 7 points and 9 rebounds on 44.5 percent shooting which is horrible for a center so you cant even justify him being on the floor. The year after he only played 27 games... his jumpshot was also trash that why when him and rose came to NY the year after they didn't make the playoffs 🤦🏾‍♂️🗣.

    Melo just a scorer, one of the biggest looser in nba history. Even in his prime all he cared was scoring his 30 points lmao loses doesn’t bother him at all.
