There is no "show frontmatter" option in my settings/Editor. It looks like this is done in my version by checking "source mode" in the ... menu of a document when in edit mode.
Thank you so much! I've been feeling intimidated by all the coding snips required for Obsidian and was about ready to give up. This short, clear explanation was exactly what I needed! Looking forward to the next video!
When I typed --- at the very top of the document, it popped up a Properties panel that I could use. When I typed it elsewhere, it treated "tags: Evergreen_notes" as a header 1 instead of as YAML.
@@lotsa2000 Looks like they switched the default look. If you want to see the formatting that Sergio is working with, select the "Source" option in the "Properties in document" setting in Obsidian.
It changed some versions ago. You can get the same view if you change the "Properties in document" to "Source". But you can also add metadata to a note now if you click on the three dots up to the right and choose "Add file property".
Thank you so much! Your videos helps a lot. I saw a different method with double colon :: to give values to parameters what can be used in dataview. The advantage is that don't need to be at the top of the note as I saw in the video at Nicole.
Apparently it has been moved. You now have to set "Properties in document" to "Source" if you want to see the YAML code. This setting is in the same section that "Show Fontmatter" was. Also know that you can't have any lines after the title before you write the YAML. The YAML has to come right after the title. Hope this helps.
Sergio, what if I have a big Obsidian database and a lot of notes + plugins that I have used to build the whole "brain" in Obsidian and have to change computer. If I copy the Vault folder to new computer, does it display everything exactly as it was there?

when adding a new book note it is duplicating the book in the reading list. I f I change the staus say from "to Read" to reading, it moves the title to the appropriate list but leaves the duplicate in the original list. Thoughts?
That's by design. Since you're commenting on the yaml video, I'm assuming you meant to type backticks? (`). If not then I don't think there's a way to stop it
@@FromSergio Thanks. It was the dashes - to create the frontmatter/metadata. I think possibly it was one of two things. Either instead of typing "---" I had added a space or something small like that and markdown was picking it up. Or I had some text before the metadata section (which you already mention in the video).
Hi, i'm afraid not as that wouldn't make sense to put in a yaml header, it won't tell you the header is invalid but obsidian will not recognize the link. You'll have to put your links outside the yaml header
Is it possible to automate population of yaml parameters? some kind of checkboxes or answer for popup windows? I want to make it more convenient on phone screen
It's meant to be used in a template scenario so it needs to be placed in a template. When I face your use case I just use the natural language dates plugin
I am confused about the yaml format for tags you are suggesting. You did it right with the square brackets and the comma. But when you changed by adding new lines, you aren't using any commonly known syntax. You should prefix each line with "-" to indicate it's an item of a list. I am not sure if it's a strange list-style or it is actually interpreting it as a dictionary with your tags as keys and null for values.
Looks like they switched the default look. If you want to see the formatting that Sergio is working with, select the "Source" option in the "Properties in document" setting in Obsidian.
When I switch to reading view my metadata looks completely different than in your example. It's named "Properties" instead of "Metadata" and it includes symbols and generally looks "prettier". Is this due to some update or did I mess around too much with plugins/themes?

I have a Problem to solve, but I need to know if its even possible. I have a list of tickers and dates, its quite long. I need to have the time stamp for the high and the low of the day in csv. By knowing which which came first I can effectively test and adjust a trading system. Basically if you could enter a list of tickers and dates and retrieve high and low timestamps you could do an absolute back test on a method. Please let me know what you or anyone here things , thanks in advance.

i don't have the show frontmatter option
It was renamed to "properties in document", set it to source and it should work.
I am learning more than expected. Each video lets me do one step further in Obsidian. Great!
You explain things so clearly not just the how but the why it is important. This gives a better overview of the topic. Love your work sir. G
Amazing! Thanks for leaving the kind words :)
I agree. Your videos are straightforward and easy to follow. Thanks for helpful content.

Your videos are great stepping-off points before reading the docs. Thanks.

BTW, YAML probably means "Yet Another Markup Language" following in the steps of YACC, Yet Another Compiler Compiler, created in the 1970's.
I dont have "Show Fontmatter" anymore :(

I think there was an update, it seems like you can have multiple tags without commas (just spaces) now.

Congrats on 2000 subs! You make really great content, keep it up! May I ask what setup you use as a teleprompter?
Hello, thanks for your content. Can we have an update on this ? Becaus it seem like its ont anymore possible to make YAML because title are obligatory
Titles don't affect it.
I ran into the same problem. You can still add the three dashes below the tittle.
I am using the format key:: value to add data to my notes. Is that different to YAML? Dataview seems to display that information just as well?
Hi, so whenever I type three dashes markdown automatically converts this to a line. How can I stop that from happening?
