    Oh my.... I think i'm too scared damaging my joycons, i will just draw on them without pulling them apart...
    Edit: Hi! Quick update after all this time. I did draw littlr doodles on my joycon with a black sharpie and the result came out good. But. (i don't know if it's a pro or a con) the doodles were erased or faded because of hands rubbing it while playing (after a lot of playing obviously) . So it's not really a problem there. That means i don't have to use acetone. And i ca' come up with new designs

      I put off doing this project for a few months because I was scared to take the controllers apart... It ended up not being as hard as I built it up in my head to be. As long as you're careful and keep everything organized, it's not too bad!
      The only issue that could happen if you just draw on them without taking them apart, is that the design could scratch off more easily. You wouldn't be able to use a spray finish. I guess you could probably brush on some type of finish? That might be worth looking into!

    • @milo1685
      @milo1685 5 ปีที่แล้ว +143

      Be careful!! If the paint gets anywhere near the buttons or sticks it can really mess up your joycons / break them. Taking it apart looks daunting but it’s really better to do that instead of paint right on them

      I got custom galaxy shells made and tried to change my controllers myself, went fine until one of the ribbons ripped so I had to go back to the company and buy the controller option with the galaxy shells 😬

      My joycon had a faulty rail so i tried taking it apart, i broke all the screws and i still have no idea how i did that. I was super gentle because i knew how fragile they are. People don’t do it theyre too expensive. On aliexpress there are some really good fake joycons that are only $25. Ive been using them as 3rd/4th person controllers and theyre totally worth the money. I would use those to customize your switch

      @@TheCludo You have to prime anyways because primer is not only white base color, but a type of glue- alcohol mix that helps the paint and the shell to connect better. The alcohol evaporates and leaves the glue, which then helps the paint to form a chemical bond in order to last longer. Always use primer!

    I think I'll do this but I would love an update on how the paint has aged and if you think there's extra tips we should know. (By the time you'd make it, of course, I know it's only been 10 days as of writing this comment.)
    ALSO, in the video she states she read/watched multiple guides which I 100% recommend doing, but I think I will also try to find broken joycons off ebay and use them for backup parts in case I break or lose anything. If you're worried about stuff like that, maybe monitor used sites & see what you can get to experiment/paint on.

    • @chezlin
      @chezlin  5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      It hasn't been that long yet, but they've held up perfectly so far! Even though the spray paint was dry, it did off gas for a couple days after. It made my hands smell like spray paint... but nothing smudged or wore off.
      I'll probably periodically do updates on these guys over on my instagram more often than on here. If you want to check that out, it's @chezlintm 😊

      gabbie or something if you use a clear protective layer it should be fine 👍

    • @idkvolfenshtein2600
      @idkvolfenshtein2600 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It depends on the clear coat and the weather where you do it. If its too humid the clear wont be hard enough to fully protect it.
      I use 2k spray max cans (they are used for cars and are a bit more expensive, 20$-30$ to be exact) the problem with these cans is that they only last 2 days once they have been activated. And only using that for only 1 pair of joycons would be a waste. But other than that, that clear will last for years.

    I feel like instead of people having to take apart their joy cons Nintendo should make it so that you can buy the joy con case separately and make a way so that you can attach the new case without having to risk breaking you joy cons and also that you can change your case regularly. (If you didn’t understand what I just said, all I am saying is that it would be nice if you could change the look of your joycons regularly, like a phone case)

    This looks like a really fun project to do one time! Definitely going to wait for my Christmas bonus to buy new "expendable" joy cons

      If you don't want to take your joycons apart, you could try taping over the buttons and painting around them, or if you feel like you have great aim with a spray can, you could use the spray can and tape.
