Rented a kayak last week and fished it in weeded island. First time kayak fishing and I Didn’t plan to catch much so I didn’t show up to prepared. Ended up catching a 40 inch jack chrevelle. Took 20 minutes to get in. Had to reel it in while paddling to shallow water to land it. Im not a super experienced kayaker but I can hold my own and this fish completely owned me to the point of borderline dangerous. I was getting towed around in the channel on a weekend. Go out, practice, take a lesson and prepare for the unexpected.
Fish finders in shallow water are very helpful and useful. They mark waypoints, tracks, and in merky water they help you find the drop of or runs that go from 1 foot down to 3 foot.
24:58 Sienfeld episode, he thinks he bought Job Voights car, he did, but it was not the celebrity Jon Voight, turns out to be another normal guy named Jon Voight coincidentally. But the salesmen didn't explain that suble different to George
Amen on the safety vest we are brand new to kayaking actually bought two hobies on your advice here. As former sailors of the Caribbean in Florida coast s we have offshore pressure type. Have them checked at West Marine we were wearing ours on our sailboat during a Coast guard rescue when we were caught in a hurricane and a sinking on a trawler in Biscayne Bay 5 years later. Although we were wet both times somewhat the vest never went off. Listening very close and inspecting what I expect
Next time dude goes to Amsterdam for kayaking or whatever I wanna go. I like it there but didn't get to do any fishin' there. But I could start. All jokes aside, I agree with always having a knife. Especially on a kayak but I carry one all the time and use it regularly. This is a great video. I just got a kayak a couple weeks ago for fishin' the Chesapeake. There's good advice in this video.
Wet suit pants for cold water also wet suit tank top. Mustang Survival Corp. MIT 100 manual activation. Paddle kayaks are better for shallow and back country fishing. Hurricane Skimmer 128, the Ocean Prowler 13 both lightweight and easy to transport. If you have a heavy kayak you won't use it as much !
Love the video, been wanting to get into kayak fishing. Do you guys recommend academy sports and outdoor? I've seen some great prices on their site but I've been hesitant due to bad reviews online

There’s a difference between a life jacket and a buoyancy aid. You really should make that clear. Also, most life jackets won’t activate unless you’re actually dunked, splashes etc should e fine

A "Texan" saying to bring spinning reels....how disgraceful. I do not want to spend time retying. 4 rods. A topwater/ corky rod, an artificial shrimp, a ball tail/jerk shad, and a paddle tail.

You are really a skilled fisherman, well done my friend. I wish you more success in fishing.like8
Excellent gentlemen.
Great. Video - great information and experiences. Thx.
I just got the old town sportsman 106 with the minn Kota and love it

Also very important is the weight of the kayak if you plan to car top it
I use a micro power pole along with an anchor pin with my anchor trolley and it works great. I can face any direction and lock in with my power pole.

Glad you enjoyed it
I would think it would be really cool to cover everyone's kayak / sup tackle system. I would be really interested in Wyatt's one tackle tray system.
Love this!
Very informative gentlemen, thank you. Another app I find useful is Navionics, I use it for all fishing not just kayak.
Great talk

That was excellent!
Extremely informative .
Any thoughts on the new generation of kayaks (Old Town Autopilots with spot lock)?
Love my Bonafide ss127
Thanks!

Is the vibe pedal system similar to the hobie?
What is the best pedal kayak under 75lbs? (hull weight)
Hobie compass, passport 12.0, or lynx
I'm in central FL and have 3 pedal hobies for sale
Nice. I’m in St. Augustine and been looking for some.
@@joelreynolds8601 have a fb or IG. Lets talk
Fish finders on kayaks are not really for using sonar. I think I use mine more for the GPS purposes.
Jon Voight was the owner of George's car in the Seinfeld reference.
I always carry a knife and usually two! What self respecting country boy doesn’t have a least one blade at all times?
What, no Natives? I just went from Hobie back to Native - love them all but getting to old to schlep a 100+ pound kayak around.

as far as fishfinders
A castable hooked to my kayak is a very inexpensive and useful tool
I've tried to add a positive comment here and I'm getting a "failure to post". Is there a word count limit to posts here?
Too much gear lol. Rule ONE keep it simple. I keep less and less stuff each trip but always keep a straight blade knife on my belt.
