  • Eric goes over how to solve some issues you maybe having with the ink bleeding into the grain. You can use Deft or Cabot brand sanding sealer. They both work well.

@Lois. Just wanted to let you know I did an experiment with the sanding sealer. Same board, select pine, 2 signs. On one I put 1 heavy brush coat of deft sanding sealer. The other I put 2 heavy brush coats. When I sanded them of & put my clear on they looked identical. Neither one had any sign of bleeding or shadow from the ink. Jean-Marc knows his stuff. Thank you again Jean-Marc for saving us all time & money. You rock my friend!!!! Eric

Jean-Marc, I tried that example with 2 coats on my 22+22" Harley Davidson engine signs orange and black inset letters with different engines Panhead Shovelhead Knucklehead Big Twin and its made me alot of money here in Austin Tx! I only use your methods and especially on how to use your carving bit and routing plunger technics. You guys are Top Professionals and I always look forward to seeing your past and present videos. God bless you and your Family and staff! 😇🙏💯👍🇺🇲

@Jean-Marc, Thank you for those tips. I'll give them a try for sure. That trick on the brush is a big time saver. I've been cleaning it every time. Thank you again my friend, Eric

Paul, very good question. I should have mentioned this. I really meant to. The cedar fence boards that I use are great. I love carving them, but most of the time they are too thin to laminate. Sometimes down to 1/2". Even if they are thick enough, sometimes they have a slight cup to them which makes it kinda tough. I just find it much simpler to use the pine. I haven't had any issues with the pine not lasting. My hunch is you may get a little more rain over there than I do in AZ. Thank you

@Olivsam, on #30 video I go over all that. Both the Kyrlon & the Helmsman are made for outdoors. I use the Krylon pretty much all the time now. It's less than 1/2 the cost & holds up good. Thank you for the question, Eric

@Lois. My hunch is Jean-Marc is correct. He a flooring expert, he really knows his stuff. The only question is the difference in the sanding sealer product. I'm gonna try 1 heavy coat & see if it works as well. It'll save money & time if it does. One of the cool things about this thing we do is there's so much knowledge that we can all share. I love it.

We don't have that out here in our area. I don't recall that I've ever carved Apsen. If you try it let me know how it works out. Thank you, Eric

I have been putting 2 or 3 coats on my boards too. Wonder if what Jean-Marc Selvon is true, need to find out. It is good info though, specially about the brush. Thanks for the great video!

Eric, you mention that you are using the Krylon, is that just for indoor because you also use the Helmsman Spar Urethane as well is that correct? Thanks!

The best deal I got in prices, is a sanding sealer use for timberflooring, 10 ltrs container. Eric I wanted to give 1 point about the sealer, 1 heavy coat is best, because the second coat will dilute the first coat. The technical guy from Blanchon explained it to me. Now I never clean the brush for the sealer, when the brush is dried, I will put it for 10 mins in the sealer, and the brush become soft. May be your product is different. Thanks for that video

Out of curiosity, why not glue up larger cedar sign boards rather than dropping down to whitewood or pine pre laminated stock? I don't use pine or any whitewood any more in the UK due to it not lasting very long in all weathers mainly due to rain damage.

what do you think about pressure treated lumber such as decking? I have a lot of pieces around that is in unused but dried out condition from a large deck project. Would there be issues with the ink?
