Interesting takes. Hot takes. I enjoy that Descendents album. Not great, but good. Its short so it goes by quick. Zen Arcade I love but not my favorite Du record. I agree with you on that take 100%. London Calling I like all the way through, its so diverse. Not saying all the tracks are masterpieces but overall very good. My favorite Clash is Give Em Enough Rope. That Minor Threat was one of my gateway records to the world of Punk Rock.
"Give Em Enough Rope" is probably my favorite Clash record, too. I don't know why, but Minor Threat just never impressed me. Which is weird because I love stuff like 7 Seconds and Dag Nasty.
Give Em Enough Rope was slated by the critics, but I think it was criminally underrated. How can you slag off an album that has Safe European Home, Stay Free, and All the Young Punks.
I don’t bother with the analytics. I don’t know 9th and Walnut. Not familiar with Samiam. I like Closer. I’m not familiar with Refused. I haven’t listened to Let It Be. I like Zen Arcade. It is better than Double Nickels On The Dime. Side two of the Minor Threat is great. Damaged is the number one Punk album. The first Bad Religion is the only one I have ever owned. I do love London Calling but I also like Sandinista. Clampdown is a great song. Enjoyed the video. The only people that have a right to be offended by your opinion are the members of these bands.
Do you prefer "Damaged" over the pre-Rollins stuff? There's like two songs on "Sandinista" I can stomach. I agree that "Zen Arcade" is better than "Double Nickels" (which I also think is overrated).
1) Never had a Descendents record, 2) Never heard of Sam I Am, 3) It's definitely Closer, as in - Don't Stand So Close To Me - and yes, definitely a lot I have never listened to more than once, 4) Never owned a Refused record, 5) Zzzz....., 6) I was never into Hüsker Dü, 7) I liked Minor Threat when I skateboarded in the 80s, and haven't listened since, 8) Lots of filler on Damaged, but a couple absolute classic tunes there, 9) Bad Religion never really hit me, 10) The Clash always had an issue with filler tracks. Sandinista is usually the one that is part of that discussion, but London Calling fits the bill, too.
1. You're missing out 2. You're missing out. 3. Good to know. 4. You're not missing out. 5. Not a Replacements fan? 6. You're missing out. 7. They're okay, but never hit me like Dag Nasty "Can I Say". 8. I like most of the songs, I really just hate the vocals. 9. You're not missing out. 10. Sandinista is unlistenable to me.
I saw this video title just before jumping in the car so was trying to think of my own examples before watching your video ‘Let It Be ‘ was my first thought & ‘Zen Arcade ‘ was my second. That long track is awful. The hardcore side is 6 out of 10. It’s got about 5 great tunes imo & they’re the poppier ones.I love that Minor Threat green album. Almost flawless imo! Circle Jerks debut leaves me pretty cold & (get ready for this’ Bad Brains ‘Rock For Light’. The Reggae stuff is terrible to me. Britain was awash with amazing Reggae in the 70’s, I didn’t need to hear Bad Brains school band attempts Yeah London Calling is problematic. Some of it sounds like Springsteen to me.
I think I'm just gonna end up commenting what others have said here-London Calling has more winners than losers, and I like some of the tracks you trashed. But in talking about the album, I came to the conclusion that a good producer would leave it as the sprawling album it is; a great producer would cut out an entire side worth of songs. Also, yeah, I never dove into Samiam. Gonna see if my local store has any on the cheap (maybe not Soar).
That's the beauty of music, we can have our own opinion on it. Personally i would put Everything Sucks by the Descendents on the overrated list. I'd put Punk in Drublic on that list too...
* DRI - Crossover (so fckn boooring compared to the early stuff) * Fugazi - Repeater (I love Minor Threat and Embrace, I just can't get into Fugazi.) * SS Decontrol - The Kids Will Have Their Say (nothing special) * Napalm Death - Harmony Corruption (They should have changed the name of the band in 1989.) * Nomeasno - Wrong (I like everything else they did between 1988 and 1991 much better) * Rancid - And Out Come the Wolves (I hate this band) * Dinosaur JR - Bug * Green Day - Dookie (Much better album in the similar style - Mr. T Experinece - Love is Dead) * Descendents - Everything Sucks (People who think this is better than "I Don't Want to Grow Up" are crazy) * Ramones - Rocket to Russia (Their weakest album in the 70s)
"Crossover" has always had a special place in my heart since it was their new album when I first got into them. I liked Fugazi a lot at the time, but I don't think it aged well. I love SSD "Kids", but it's not as good as "Get It Away". I never got into Napalm Death. I think "Wrong" is awesome. Rancid does indeed suck. I never liked "Bug" as much as "You're Living All Over Me". I never liked Green Day. I like "Everything Sucks" but it's not in the same league as the 80's records. "Rocket to Russia" is my second favorite Ramones album. I always thought "Leave Home" was their weakest 70's record.
Im not a fan of the modern sound of the decsendents at all and that 9th and Walnut record just sucks. Never liked Refused and never considered them a punk band. Bad Religion past their first record is overrated, suffer is their other good record.
Great topic. Only heard of these Black flag - didn't like and Clash. And I can agree with you about Clash. Boring album. Only cover is great and London Calling track. Actually I don't remember any tracks of other bands...Am I still punk?
Yes, Closer is not punk and it's terrific. Zen Arcade has some great songs but is a bit too overindulgent with too much filler, Uh oh. This makes me question your whole post. Minor Threat is only one of the three greatest hardcore albums and one of the 15 greatest punk albums period. A stone cold masterpiece in every way. Should I continue to watch your video after this? Only because I have nothing else to do. Oh well...The Black Flag and Bad Religion albums are both hardcore classics. London Calling is my least favorite of Clash's first 3 albums but it does have its moments and THE ONLY WAY TO HEAR THIS IN ALL ITS GLORY IS THE FIRST BRITISH VINYL PRESSING ON CBS. Forget the US pressing on Epic.
So many great tracks on London calling. Spanish Bombs, Guns of Brixton, Rudi Can't Fail, and the magnificent I'm Not Down are the standouts.

Thanks for this assault on my teenage years.
Welcome!

I don’t usually give a thumbs up on a video with no face but I made an exception.
I appreciate it.
I love Guns of brixton, one of my favorite song of the album, so yeah question of tastes 😂
Agree let it be, shape of things, damaged, london calling,
Yes all have filler tracks, but we live in a time where playlists are in our hands.

I love “Rock For Light”. I could have replaced one of the entries with the ROIR album. Bad Brains got into reggae via the Clash, ironically.

My favorite album from Samiam is "Clumsy".
That's the beauty of music, we can have our own opinion on it. Personally i would put Everything Sucks by the Descendents on the overrated list.
I'd put Punk in Drublic on that list too...
I actually like "Everything Sucks". I think all their albums after that one are blah. I don't like NOFX at all.
What Minor Threat!?!? Unsubscribe... JK
lol.....bingo!
Definitely agree with The Shape of Punk to Come. I dig it, but it is the most overrated punk/hardcore album of all time.
Yep, it's good but not this world changing event like it seems like almost everyone claims it to be.

* SS Decontrol - The Kids Will Have Their Say (nothing special)
* Napalm Death - Harmony Corruption (They should have changed the name of the band in 1989.)
* Nomeasno - Wrong (I like everything else they did between 1988 and 1991 much better)

9th and Walnut, did many really care?
Im not a fan of the modern sound of the decsendents at all and that 9th and Walnut record just sucks. Never liked Refused and never considered them a punk band. Bad Religion past their first record is overrated, suffer is their other good record.
I liked “Everything Sucks” and everything after that sucked.
Great topic. Only heard of these Black flag - didn't like and Clash. And I can agree with you about Clash. Boring album. Only cover is great and London Calling track. Actually I don't remember any tracks of other bands...Am I still punk?
Nope. Punk card revoked! haha... There's a few other gems on "London Calling", but they can be hard to find because they are few and far between.
I. Couldn't disagree more! Luv every song on London Calling 💯
Yes, Closer is not punk and it's terrific. Zen Arcade has some great songs but is a bit too overindulgent with too much filler, Uh oh. This makes me question your whole post. Meh
Loose Nut is way better than Damaged.
Now that's a hot take!
Oh wait Suffer!?!? Now unsubscribe really...
Understandable.
JK again@@6AM_YT
Henry Rollins is terrible
Totally agree about London Calling.
And a few others too, Minor Threat, Zen arcade i don't care for
I just had to unsubscribe
