I found a french guy who was really into old Dr's mentioning the pistons specifically on the older modells. He strongly recommend a certain brand för a replacement, hope I can find him for you.

Nearly same experience here. Bought an 23 years old Aprilia Pegaso 650 wich the former owner had just used without paying any special attention on service and maintainence. After 200 km of testriding the headgasket was blown. But on that bike it's not possible to take the head of as long as the motor is fully mounted in the frame. An by working on that I found a lot of small but importend things that should have been sorted out once you have the motor on the workbench. Not only on the motor.

@@Skidmate Yes, but with all the things I found that needed to be done it took me quite a while to get that thing running again. And after that it took months to get the carburetors working good. 🤔😬🤥🙄😐

Take out the engine and remove head and cylinder, probably your piston rings are shot and will need to be replaced. If you do take it apart, better look at all the seals and gaskets while the engine is out. all in all, your baby wants a complete overhaul :)

Thank you for commenting! I run a 145 main jet, I believe that is the stock size. For more info you can check out thumpertalk or drriders.com, there's loads of information on there 😊🙋‍♀️
