I just wonder. Now that we have finally gotten the White House situation figured out. We might have incandescent lighting re -introduced. I’m very optimistic that we will be seeing older technologies brought back. It’s hard to know whether some of these old technologies use more electricity than they should. But it’s definitely obvious that the failure of modern technologies is extreme. We are on the Vista of a new frontier of growth. It’s so great that we don’t really have to worry about energy concerns.

There is a bit of a misconception that has been floating around about the term “soft white.” When you look at the box for any CFL or LED bulb that is 2700K, it will be marketeted as being “soft white,” indicating that it is 2700K. However, in reality, soft white doesn’t mean anything related to color temperature when it comes to incandescent bulbs. It simply means that the bulb has a diffusing silica coating on the inside, which doesn’t alter the color temperature. A 60W clear bulb and a 60W soft white bulb of the same lifespan will be the same color. The only thing that really has an effect on the color temperature of an incandescent bulb is how hot the filament is burning. Incandescent bulbs of higher wattages have higher color temperatures than lower wattages, because the hotter the filament is burning, the higher the color temperature. Additionally, long-life bulbs are usually warmer than standard-life bulbs, because filaments are not driven as hard and burn cooler. So the term “soft white” doesn’t really mean anything color-wise, besides CFL and LED bulbs where the term has been incorrectly used to refer to a 2700K color temperature for the past 30 years.
6:37 Those halogen A19 bulbs, on the other hand, do have a coating applied to them that alters the color temperature. They are known as “modified spectrum” bulbs. Since halogen bulbs naturally burn hotter and therefore at higher color temperatures than equal-wattage incandescent bulbs, manufacturers started incorporating a coating that turns the 2900K halogen light into 2700K incandescent-like light by altering or removing part of the light spectrum. This is also why those bulbs are so dim compared to regular incandescent bulbs. As far as I know, this type of coating was never used on incandescent bulbs, only the halogen soft white bulbs for the purpose of making them look more like incandescent. The GE Reveal bulbs (and similar neodymium bulbs) are another type of bulb that is considered modified-spectrum, but they are the opposite, intended to produce a cooler, more halogen-like light. Ironic.
9:19 I wonder if the reason you get headaches from LED lighting is because of the harsh directional nature of the LED diodes. All other types of lighting emit light in all directions, relying on reflectors to direct the light to a particular area. But LEDs only shine in one direction. Even the fila-stick ones are technically many directional diodes on a stick. This means LEDs generally have a kind of dazzling glare to them, often seen with LED “reflector” bulbs, street lights, and high-bay lights, that is unlike any other light source and can feel unnatural or “off.”

I have a bunch of these in 40 Watts and I love them. I can’t perceive a difference in the color temperature either between these and standard bulbs.

could it be the color filters causing headaches, because they use blue+yellow to get white which isn't a clean white like an incandescent or even many other technologies.

Halophosphate fluorescent is also a combination of yellow and blue, and triphosphor fluorescent is a combination of red, green, and blue. Jordan does not seem to have an issue with fluorescent of any kind, so I don’t think this is the reason, unless the artificialness is more pronounced on LED.

The difference most definitely lies within the coating. The power factor will be 1 because it's a resistive load. It's 100% efficient in nature.

What a find! I'm still mad at myself that I didn't stock up more on Incandescent bulbs. 780 lumens isn't bad foe 60w. My guess is the lumens is lower so they last longer. I know the standard GE Soft white 60w bulbs were rated 860 lumens.

These are pretty much the ones I am looking to buy bulk to replace the LED ones in my house, but I can't find them anywhere sadly.

It should be easier now that Trump revoked the ban.

It's very difficult to find these in bulk at this point. I think your best option for the time being will be some type of specialty bulb, appliance bulb, traffic signal bulb, etc.

@ It is good that the ban is revoked, but, it won't be for a long while until it actually starts affecting them.

I’m dissatisfied with the light bulb selection at Home Depot. I see nothing but LED

There are not traditional incandescent bulbs like this at my local store anymore, but there are a small handful of specialty bulbs as well as plenty of fluorescent and HID still.

@ yes I have noticed, it is a shame because I actually prefer traditional old style bulbs over LED, If I come across any for sale I will definitely use them and keep the boxes. I have some clear coated incandescent bulbs in use in my ceiling fans and bathroom.

I have nothing to do with it, there is an aspect to LED lighting that no other type seems to output which causes the discomfort.
