Meruem technically died from the blast or was a few short minutes to death by the blast but his royal gaurds lended their power to him in order to save him when by doing that made meruem so strong so fast so smart that no being on the face of planet earth would beat him. If he hadn’t been poisoned by the bomb meruem would be close to invincible. Rewatch that last few episodes of the chimera arc and it will be more clear
