Great video. I'd love to hear more about the Kingdom of Deira. I have occasionally made a half hearted attempt to find out more but I'm usually met with, 'little is known'. I'd appreciate your view on the subject. 👍
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊 As for Deira it's a tricky one, firstly I intent to do a pre and post Roman video of the area. I did do one as my first ever video but it was horrific in so many ways and now long gone thankfully 😂 as for it as an Anglo Saxon kingdom it's history is short and not well documented. It wasn't long before it merged with bernicia to form Northumbria. It often could be annexed to another kingdom like Mercia or sometimes given by a Northumbrian king to a son as a sub king type situation. I'm not sure if you have seen it but It does come up a fair bit in my recent Edwin video, it might also feature in my Aldfrith video too. So I guess the answer is yes it will be covered even more in time but indirectly.....and I have no idea how to pronounce it. I've picked a version but I've heard many variations. I think it's one of the few Anglo Saxon realms that took its name from the previous occupants, along with bernicia and Kent.
@@stepthroughhistory Yeh, I have heard it come up in your videos. I think I've watched and enjoyed most of them. It's actually pretty cool to hear from local historians/history enthusiast (delete as appropriate) especially when talking about periods I have a particular interest in. Once again my thanks for your efforts.
Great stuff, absolutely loved it.... I get the feeling my parental lineage was doing the harrying. The Montealto's of Flint and Cheshire.......is there a record of the Knights Titles?
Hehe does that mean we get to boo you? 😂 Sounds like you have a fascinating lineage. No titles I'm afraid, Thirstiness is the only name that appears, that and Williams of course. I guess there would have been many of these groups, I have no idea of their number. Really glad you enjoyed it. I am working on a story about a family who were for some times sheriff's of Chester and often did their kings bidding (and dying) on the Welsh borders. I will look out for that name in my research.
@@stepthroughhistory many thanks.... I suppose a boo's in order......maybe a cheer too, yep.... Defenders on my Mother's side 😁👍 like lots of Brits I expect. Montealto's changing their name to Mold and Mowatt.......fit in with the locals 😏 good luck 👍
