Ehlers is the best player on the team, especially on even strength! The Jets need to extend his contract now, and then put him on top power play and first line, watch him thrive and his contract will look very good!
Keep in mind the Jets PP has struggled a lot and is too sedentary. They need the dynamics of Ehlers to make the PP more versatile and tough to predict, just like other top PP teams move around.
On the other hand, Connor had the worst +/- of the whole team! It was worse than his linemates by far, worse than all 4th liners and fringe players like Stanley and Gus. His blazing speed and elite goal scoring should be trade bait to get some good D back, and the Jets would improve instantly on forward and defence in a single transaction.
Also, extend Monahan and De Melo!

The Jets should resign Nicolai Ehlers to a long-term contract. Never mind trading him. He makes the whole Jets team better. He just needs to play with the right players. Just thinking about traded him is crazy. He is a Jet fan favorite, and always will be.

My fear is his treatment under Bones has already pushed him out the door now in Ehlers mind. Unless he had a GREAT relationship under Arnie, and knew Arnie fought on his behalf with Bones to handle things differently then they were, and knew it was all on Bones...
But hearing Murat talk about his relationship with Scheif leads me to believe Ehlers already knows where the two of them stand, and Scheif is above in the pecking order.
I think Ehlers knows he's gonna have to go somewhere else to be viewed with the respect I think he's earned. As they said to start this whole segment off, Most points per minute played... More then Scheifele, KC, etc etc...

    • @BoboMcBooboy
      @BoboMcBooboy 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

Also, it's REALLY not crazy just because you think he should stay... They should absolutely talk to him about resigning imo, but it's simply a well known fact that entering your final year before UFA status is a case by case situation on if you should trade them, keep them knowing they could be essentially a "one year rental" - who leaves at the end of the season for nothing to FA if a deal cant get done during the year...
Checking the market for what you could get for him ATM, this is being realistic. This is being pragmatic, even if both sides were interested in some kind of extension, which I'm REALLY not sure Ehlers camp would be. I believe Chevy is absolutely, DEPENDING on extension price...
If you DON'T atleast TEST the waters for what a return might look like for a guy entering his final year, before you lose any rights to retain his services... THAT'S just a crazy naive position to hold...
Just assuming you WILL be able to resign the guy... THAT is crazy arrogant and naive...

LOL It's time for change. I love him but it's about winning the cup not keeping players that can't perform in the playoffs. He's great, no doubt but jets needs more quality dmen that can move the puck and NOT get hemmed in their zone. Ehlers cannot help out battling on the boards and win pucks. He's too small and coughs up the puck and makes bad decisions in the playoffs. I'm a FAN of the JETS not individual players. I want to see the team win the cup. I want to see Winnipeg's white longer than one round playoffs.

@@areacode911 Kinda clueless eh? Nik is 6'0 180 the avg size in the current NHL. His break out or transition have been a main reason the Jets a team has been able to move the puck out of their own zone. Thats find if you don't like players (or know who is good or not) but your idea of how to move the puck or win puck battles is dated. The current teams in the play offs don't really play in that way, so why should the Jets? Are the Rangers winning puck battles or is Dal .....just clueless fairweather fan

Jets should be open trading Ehlers/Perfetti/Stanley/Pionk/Lucius/Kupari/Gus even younger guys who might not make it Zhilkin,Bauer,Wagner.
    If it means upgrading team
It be nice if we could get RFA NHL or almost ready prospects like Byram,Schneider,Jiricek, mateychuk, nemec types.
Or older guys signed Parayko,Provorov,Sanheim,Pulock over Orlov/Chychrun they only have 1yr like ehlers and might not resign.
One trade has been linked here along time Is Necas.
As for backup we should sign because from here and lack of options Reimer/Dreidger.
And I'd rather see Hamonic in bottom 2 dman then Stanley/Pionk/Schmidt.

Bones really handled Ehlers and Perfetti in particular so much worse then basically any other player. It was SO noticable... It was bad. KC would do ALL the same things that seemed to really grind Bones gears with Ehlers in particular... It was ridiculous.

  • @evanh40

I think it really needs to be pointed out. Nik Ehlers is a victim of hockey culture. Just listen to how often, players, coaches, announcers and others talk about "playing the right way". Implying there's one right way, and all the rest are wrong. Very black and white. Very conservative thinking. There's 32 teams in the NHL, sure some of them may play similar systems, but there should be at least 32 different ways to play hockey. This "right way to play" narrative needs to stop.
