Akoyas are more perfectly round because of the bead that's inserted inside them, meanwhile most freshwater pearls are tissue nucleated. Akoyas also have a very thin layer of nacre, most of the time it's around 0.7mm (less than 1mm)... they are also heavily treated like heating, bleaching and pinking to make them more visually appealing. Akoya pearls that don't meet industry standards are crushed and sold as "pearl powder". Let's just say that I don't think that Akoya pearls are worth it. Tissue nucleated freshwater pearls are closest thing that most of us could get to natural pearls because in both cases their nuclei would decompose, and the pearl is therefore made of 100% nacre, freshwater pearls being slightly off round doesn't bother me, most natural pearls aren't perfectly round either, even those royal collections.

It seems like you chose to show the worst quality freshwater pearls that you could find... I've seen high quality Freshwater Pearls with metallic luster and those could beat Akoyas and South Sea Pearls. Your examples are full of blemishes and their luster isn't good. This is a very biased video👎
