    The cage that holds the veins in place is removable. Pretty interesting how it works mechanically. All of the veins are centered on dowels, with a small flat guide on the opposite side that rides in a circular plate with half moon slots machined at each vein location. On the main shaft housing (exhaust side) a orbital arm engages this plate once pressed together, and controls the opening and closing of the veins.

    If you take the wheel off on the intake side there are some 12pt bolts that will allow you to separate the housings and "rebuild" the turbo

    They used ceramic ball bearings in the earlier models and they failed quite often. The upgrade was a steel ball bearing replacement and the problem was solved for the most part.

    Ok. Question. Mines of a 2016 model. And I have two similar (but not identical) turbos, the bearings are out on one, can I switch the bearings out or the impeller shafts?

    Is there a core charge on that turbo?If you can believe it, I have never had the pleasure (or displeasure???) of having to R and R a turbo on any 6.7 to date. But looking at that disassembly, it sure looks suspiciously similar to a 6.0 turbo. Interesting how the unison ring is set up.

    I've got a 15 550 and about 2 years ago I had a turbo fail. Split the shaft in half. Within 500 miles it went through 2 more. Cac wasnt cleaned out and then ran away bent a rod and had to be short blocked the tech couldnt get a head bolt out. Dealership had it about 4 months. Trying to get ford to stand behind it. Had any issues with the shafts breaking?

    Ford tech won't Diag my truck, no codes...(Extended warranty) 2015 F250 , Start it, idles great, drive away, builds up to 40 psi boost, let off pedal, Turbo flutters, then it seems to release or open, and turbo will operate normal until I stop again and let it go to idle. Frustrating, I replaced the actuator, no change. now the question, Is it possible to disassemble and clean or is it a re-place only?

      Asking personally if you would do that to your truck. I've been looking at the kc turbo kit. My 14 hits about 65mph when pulling any grade and just hits a wall and wont go any faster flat it will go as fast as you want. Unloaded its amazing great power. Had it to the dealership many times and they said it just how the truck is. My work truck is a 16 and it does amazing when pulling same loads even heavier loads up the same hills.

    How would you rate the 6.7 compared to the 7.3 in the reliability department. I want to get a new 6.7 but I'm scared of all the emmisions (previous 6.4 owner)
    Thanks

    • @michaelchan8915
      @michaelchan8915 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went from a 2007 6.0 to a 2016 6.7 ordered brand new. Couldn't be happier. As far as the emissions stuff is concerned? Just let regens complete. And DEF is cheap. As far as reliability is concerned? The engine itself is ten times better than the 6.0/6.4 it replaced back in 2011. My workload for diesel repairs decreased drastically from those days.

    You shouldn't replace the turbo just because it was sticking. Penetrating oil would probably free it up. My brother is a mechanic and he says that PB Blaster is the best oil and now I use it on everything. I couldn't get the spark plug out of my scooter and I sprayed it with PB Blaster and then it came right out. You should try it next time instead of charging the customer all that money.

    • @PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod
      @PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Wow bro that's the craziest comment ive ever heard. Yea PB blaster isn't going to make the failed bearings inside the turbo glue themselves back together. Its broke, you replace.....
