To add, when making these adjustments on the curve hold SHIFT while moving a point to only move vertically, hold ALT to make the movement in all directions slower making it easier to fine tune(tone) and use ALT+SHIFT to move slow vertically only.
Great tutorial. I use the tone curve with such a light touch because it scares me. I understand much better now, especially the color aspect. Thank you!
My mind is so freakin blown! I have always struggled editing my photos because I've always felt like they were missing something. I never knew how to really use the tone curve or understood what I was doing. I learned more in this one video than I have in the past 10 years. Thank you so much!!!!! Also, my brother goes by TK :)
As a new photographer, I have NOT touched this because I just did not understand it. This is the absolute best video I’ve seen when it comes to explaining it! I feel 100x more confident going in and playing with the curves now 😭
this was so helpful. I always knew the basics about the tone curve and also knew about the s-shape, but I never realised that the bottom left are the depths and the top right the highlights
As happens, I’ve just ‘stumbled’ onto this tutorial ~ wow‼️ very helpful indeed and thank you. I’ll now be going through your channel cherry picking. [I have just subscribed & Liked] Very useful indeed. 🙏
Great vid as always mate. Probably a silly question so apologies, when in the editing process do you use the curves? I normally start with the auto then tweak from there
Thank you so much for showing me how to use the tone curve. Like you said in the video I was a little intimidated by it as well because I didn't understand it, but now I think I can safely say I'm more confident after watching this video! 🙏
Just came across your channel today, thank you for your videos, definitely one of the best explanations out there, very helpful video. Thank you, I will be subscribing and I look forward to your future content :)
The sliders underneath the curve are good for adjusting the sort of bias of the curve between each point, the gradation between shadows/mids/highlights, which you can't do solely by manipulating the positions of the points without adding more between them. Good explanation though, particularly with the colours in the rainforest.
Thanks so much!!! You got it, I am Australian! It should largely be pretty good, just depending on the tasks you perform in Ps. If unsure I would just have a good search online for recommended specs for photo editing just to double check :)
What arrangement do you use for editing? Like your process when editing.. Auto Tone/ Auto White Balance, Tone Curve, HSL/Color, Tone Spliting, Calibration...?
I could hug you for this. The tone curve has always really stressed me out
haha! That's awesome dude, so glad it was helpful!
Same Here bruh 😞😅

Never touched, not understood the curve. This made it clear. Good video, thanks.
Thanks so much! I'm glad it was useful :)
To add, when making these adjustments on the curve hold SHIFT while moving a point to only move vertically, hold ALT to make the movement in all directions slower making it easier to fine tune(tone) and use ALT+SHIFT to move slow vertically only.
