  • I ordered this small seed cleaner from China to see if I could use it for cleaning pollen.
I had gotten an email from a guy that is using a birdseed cleaner for his pollen, and that sent me down the rabbit hole.
There are a few different style contraptions made for birdseed cleaning. This one worked ok, but I would like to try one that hooks to a shop vac.
    Thanks for watching!

Gus if you can locate a small electric motor, place a wheel of some sort on its shaft and attach a washer, nut or some similar weight on the wheel so as to unbalance it, that should give you adequate vibration. You should be able to move the weight in or out from the shaft to get the desired vibration. The motor can likely be bolted inside the cover of the winnowing machine.

A standard method of cleaning agricultural products is to first separate the product by size and then use air or vacuum to separate them by weight. With fine tuning of a vacuum flow strength, heavier particles of the same size will fall out of the vacuum flow whereas lighter particles will be sucked off. Check out the concept of an Air Gravity Conveyor. sizing screens are available in fine graduations to separate by size and they are typically used with high frequency vibration to move product across them. The small hive beetles should be easy to remove with screens because of their size.

Now if it was 10 time it's size.
I worked for a chip manufacturer company for a while that we used a vibration table to vibrate the chips into slots on trays. I wonder if a vibration table with a screen box mounted. Use different mesh screening in the box maybe even with a small fan, might give you some build ideas.👍

A cheap aquarium air pump may help make it vibrate. Not sure how much vibration it needs to get the pollen to flow through though.

Grain elevators sometimes use a vibrater on their grain legs to keep light products from clogging the tube. Many of them are attached by a magnet. It might be overkill - not sure. I don't have a source - sorry. You could attach it to the table.

Hi, do you think the larger unit would save anymore time? Assuming you add something to vibrate the hopper

Make it like a gold sluice box shaker

It's an electric unit with blower. Must have been made in house as it's nothing fancy.

Gus, this is quite interesting. I could not find the seed cleaner on Amazon. Could you provide a link?

I`m off here, but are you pulling pollen off of store-bought grain?

Clamp a woman’s pleasure tool to it? You said it needed to vibrate. 😂
