I have a few points, which any student needs to know, to write in the comments. Firstly, "which" defines a class of item. When we use it, we put commas around the clause. "Seat belts, which save lives, are compulsory for drivers." "That" is used in many ways that make it very hard for learners to master. It singles out one of a kind. "The book that I borrowed is on the shelf." All seat belts save lives. I didn't borrow every book. Also, the clause shouldn't end with a preposition. "The house which/that she lives in is huge" is a clumsy sentence whichever option you choose. The better option would be "The house where she lives is huge."
Jason Bolster, in your whole speech, the comma before the word "which" and after the word "to" are useless. If you delete which you consider extra information, the sentence will sound strange.
It has been two years I'm looking your videos, and all time it's like you open my mind and make me understand. I always sought this differences. Your are the best teacher ever. Thank youuuu so much.
"That" after the subject usually limits them in some way, whereas "which" has more information after the subject, and should have a comma. Hopefully this example helps. Eg. The cars that are blue need washing. This means that only the BLUE cars need washing. There could be many other cars (red etc.) The cars, which are blue, need washing. This means that all the cars are blue. The 'which' here leads us to more information about the cars, whereas 'that' limits us to a few certain cars.
One site worth considering for learning English is sunphrase(dot)com . The newly founded website has writing support system that enable to write quicker, HOW TO USE: Write here your key words of your sentence that you want to write in english (make sure that English language is choosen). E.g. like would => Then in window no 3 there will be displayed sentences with this key words
Also, the difference between 'that' and 'which' is not even noticed by many native English speakers, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just know when to use 'who' (or even 'whom' for the more advanced!) For instance, I (as a native speaker from England) would have said the last example from this video as "the clothes that he bought..."
Exactly right. My Dad told me a long time ago we, as native speakers over-use "that" in our written and spoken English. "Which" sounds better, more grammatically correct, but is used much less. Perhaps because it sounds more "pretentious" to us common people ;).
BTW: Its possible to use that in every case. So if your ever stuck in a sentence just put that. You could say: The boy that is a millionaire. As well as: The boy who is a millionaire. Or the House that is huge. As well as :The house which is huge.
The spelling of her name is incorrect. It is Rebecca. People feel bad when their name is wrongly spelled or pronounced. Make sure you do things like that correctly. You know, I'm just informing you. That's it.
Pls. correct me if I’m wrong. which - can be use when there are the same things on place but not specify that - can be use when there is only thing on place
(Double check this! Not 100% Positive.) Whom is the objective form, where as who is the subjective. E.G. "The person whom I was supposed to meet didn't show up." Subject would be whatever is doing the action, the object is whatever is receiving the action. In that sentence, I am the subject would be the person I was supposed to meet. Hope this helps!
Hola soy de la costa norte colombiana y estoy tratando de aprender ingles, creo que encontre la mejor profesora, me susribi miss rebeca excelente canal.
Thank you so much. Now, I totally understood the difference. When I was in ESL class, I asked the same question once, but I was still confused that time. Thanks again!!
The word "which" is used only when deciding between two persons or things. Example: Here we have 2 candidates. Which one will we go with?. Here, "which" is used with people.

Yes I would use "which" for mostly plural nouns.
What is "commas around"?
A clause shouldn't end with a preposition? That is something up with which I will not put.
