The tune is Heath's own composition "Gingerbread Boy." Many listeners are familiar with the very different qunitetversion by Miles Daivis (with Tony Willimas' volcanic drumming) on the Miles Smiles album.
this guy on the trombone looks as he ever wanted to play the saxophone while lookin' at those two guys battlin' ((: i'm happy that i choose the saxophone!!!! by the way: great vid
Sorry this took so long to answer the guy on the last page. Jimmy's CTA stands for Connie Teresa Ann,,,,,a girl Jimmy was dating back when he was with Miles, Miles talks about it in his autobiography
How many jobs for these young cats when they graduate and walk out of there convinced the world is going to provide applause AND fiscal remuneration ...
Can't wait to be a freshman at Berklee in 2 weeks! Both altos were burning! I loved both tones for different reasons, and while lead did have superior technique, second alto had great ideas. I just wished that he'd take the lead altos cues better in the trade, it wasn't as connected as heath and the other tenor.
@JHH89 most of these kids got a full scholarship, I know them all. Also people go there to network more than "studying". It pays off too, thats where a lot of their work comes from.
Great stuff from these youngsters (and a couple of oldies). Jazz, truly America's greatest gift to the world. As the Duke said "If ain't got that swing, it don't mean a thing". Boy, do these guys swing! sd goh (malaysia)
@boricuatrumpet69 maybe because this is a straight ahead blues? believe me dude i go to berklee. there are plenty of amazing students who have their own voice. almost nothing you said is true. there is a time and place for everything and this song is the time for some straight ahead inside playing.
@jazztrbn77 If that is the case I'm happy for you ... but if my own son were desirous of such a career it would be with the caveat of a contingency plan in the form of another qualification in another line of work ... it being my opinion that live music gigs can be fickle ...

That bearded alto player sounds gash compared to the guy next to him.
