Every time I watch this movie I always get the impression that Mickey Rourke was having a ball with this dialogue and playing this character. You gotta love Marv.
I literally just finished watching a clip of the film that ended with Marv driving while dragging some guy's face along the street and saying to the guy, "I don't know about you, but I'm having a ball."
The crazy part about Marv is that he's so smart and he doesn't even realize it. He thinks he's dumb but in a tight spot, everyone wants him on their side. Not just for the muscle but he's shown himself, in both movies, to be able to analyze a situation quickly and thoroughly, and act with results that benefit his party/him. He's probably no math wiz but he's definitely not stupid. The Sin City movies tread so close to reality that when you make the connection between Marv being a lowkey genius but stuck in a pit of a life because of any number of reasons (where he was born, conditions he grew up in, etc) and talented but unknown individuals that we know in real life that are in his same position but unable to change it because of similar reasons.
Smart sometimes and stupid in others. Dwight approached Marv in A Dame to Kill For and told him his plan storm Damien's Estate to free Ava and Marv just straight-up agreed to it without any idea who Damien or Ava were. When I bought the comic in the 90's, I felt sorry for Marv that Dwight tricked him into that.
The fact Wendy slept with Marv, letting him think she was Goldy, was for me one of the most bittersweet yet fundamentally decent parts of the whole movie. She knew he loved her sister, so she let him have one last night with 'her' before he died for avenging her.
''Sure, but I thought I might be able to talk some sense into you. And I probably would've had to paste you one getting the gun. And I don't hurt girls.'' - Marv , he was the best part of Sin city
