I see so many people on social media say the fight isn't fun, I personally think they are just blind with rage. Alatreons fight, along with the new moves he gets, is AMAZING, this is what a Black Dragon is suppose to be like, a literal God that one shots you. I will admit, it is frustrating when you don't stagger him, but I also tend to forget that this is no ordinary Elder Dragon
Tips: 1. Use a weapon that deals a lot of elemental damage. Thunder/Dragon elements let you deal balanced elemental damage during ice/fire/dragon attacks. Refer to the large monster guide for details. 2. Eat Felyne safeguard/insurance meal that gives your team an extra cart if someone dies. Grab a crystalburst at the camp. 3. Bring astera jerky and nullberries. Use Health Boost and astera jerky when the monster hits the ground during the super attack. You won't survive unless your team had dealt enough elemental attack beforehand. 4. I find Switch Axe to be the most effective melee weapon. I used power prolonger and focus skills (level 2). I keep attacking with elemental discharge while wearing the rocksteady and temporal mantles. 5. Try to knock the monster to the wall and break the horns. 6. Use good armor with Divine Blessing (Gold Rathian) and Health Recovery (Blackveil Vaal Hazak) pieces. 7. Once you get past the Special Assignment, the Event quests are easier to beat with better players. Good luck!
the best way is when alatreon flying, try to wait for alatreon to use any move and right at the end of the move u start clutch claw on to it u will have enough time to do a weapon attack or slap it then do the flinch shot
Key openings that you can exploit when alatreon is doing an attack: 1.) Random Lightning Barrage - this one is an attack he does alot. He stays in this position when he channels this ability. But be careful, he does a follow up run charge/swipe/slam. Attack him when he is charging or when he is channeling the ability and just be mindful of where his lightnings land. As a side note, his lightnings do not land on the same spot twice, so you can go to a spot where the lightning has already landed. 2.) Fire and Ice ground breath attack- he charges or pauses before he does this attack. If you are close to him make use of this opening since he cant reach you. Also, if you are far from him and his firebreath is coming towards you, you can roll sideways when he does his firebreath and you wont get damaged. 3.) Aerial attacks when he's not enraged - this one is a free topple down. Dont just randomly clutch claw and ram him into the edges of the map. There are big rocks on the map where he can be rammed into when he is on the ground. However, when he is flying a simple clutch claw and slinger burst will topple him which can give you alot of time to deal damage. 4.) Ground slam/Aerial head slam- he pauses a little bit when he finishes this move. For aerial head slam, he slams 2 times when not enraged and 3 times when enraged. After this you can punish him. 5.) Flash pods- this only works when he is not enraged. I usually dont use this cuz it is better to clutch claw and slinger burst him when he is not enraged. But feel free to use this when you need to. EDIT: 6.) Change form explosion/ dragon explosion - this one you can see a mile away. Superman dive out of this or simply run. However, when you are behind him, in line with his tail, the explosion does not reach there so you dont get damaged. Use this opening to land free hits if you are ranged. Lemme know if I missed anything :)
1) just a quick tip for the lightning - standing directly behind his front legs is always safe. You can hit the back legs during the wind up or the front when he lands. There is never lightning here. 2) when he jumps in the air and shoots the fire/ice straight down, it's a free clutch claw on anything that isn't the head. You get to tenderizer a part and avoid the damage. 3) the lightning wall thing that slowly moves forward. It's pretty easy to just walk towards him through the lightning since there's a decently sized pause between each one. He stands still for a bit while using this move so run towards him, not away. 4) the ground attack where he slams the ground with his front 2 legs and dragon element that pins you if you get hit by it. It has a pretty tight hitbox in my experience and he sits there for a bit when he hits the ground - I can usually get in a full demon flurry. Edit: I just realized you talked about this one 5) in multiplayer, the 2 or 3 lines of lightning in random directions is free damage if it's not aimed at you.
@@alecsanabria adding onto your tips: 1) it's true that the lightning would not hit under its belly, but do keep in mind that he will move (dragon charge, especially) before the barrage ends. try not to panic roll into lightnings. 3). that move I like to call it "creeping barrage". Not sure about the meaning of ”pause“ you mentioned, but both the time between each lightning waves and the gaps between each lightnings are quite generous. it is always 5 waves if not interrupted. 4). if not enraged, the end of 2nd slam is a tight but good openning for slipping in a clutch claw flinch shot to it face. 5). In my opinion, it might not be the case if everyone is using melee or close together. The targeted can aviod these lightning lines by just calmly walking, but sometimes the same move can catch someone else in the middle of their animations. That's one of the reasons I use elemental LBG (more percisely Alatreon's own LBG) for this fight. it's less crowded near Alatreon, and if I was targeted, my teammates would not be distracted by lightnings.
I can die three times to the nova in a single fight. The problem is that I can’t pass the checks reliably solo. So my problem is damage output while dodging; not just dodging.
@@joaoluizkurianskifreitassa2436 It's a regular safi LS crit build (Water). I didnt farm KT so I dont have any of the Kjarr weapons. I've seen a dude soloing Alatreon with pretty much the same build though. I'm working on a Styx build to see if I have better luck with that.
A lot of people are struggling with their positioning after the Alatreon attacks. If he does the ice breath at the ground, you don't run away, you clutch claw to him. If he does the fire rings on the ground, you don't run away, you run into it and attack his head. If he's in the air and you know you can knock him down with the clutch claw shot (if not enraged), then do it. It's all dps.
I love this fight but it hurts my soul. He's so freaking cool but I'm definitely getting a bit frustrated by the nova. Gotten so close to killing him on the special assignment at least 5 times
thats why I surrender... I'm done with him I tried solo and multiplayer and I failed every single time cuz of ridiculous hitboxes and stuipdly boosted damage of him. That frustrated me so hard I made the decision today that I leave IB. Over one- hundred tries but just 5 times of them the fight looked really good but then he turned into madness.
@@gamingispleasure8436 I have done him solo a bunch of times already. Once you get used to it it becomes easy as hell. The key is to have high elemental damage, good defensive skills and learn the patterns. His electric attacks can be dodged through and leave wide windows for attacks. When he is flying he has 3 or so attacks with rest animations (opening) , stay beneath him and you will be ok . Always stay between the rear legs and the front legs and in some cases between the front legs and the head. His electric attack that hits multiple times across the map doesn't reach the front legs. The focuss of the fight is to survive the nova, eventually he will die at the second or third time of using it. You should consider bringing a high dragon weapon for the fight and equipping Safi'jiiva's armor (it allows you to stack defensive skills easily and increases elemental damage). Do a few practice runs just to adapt to alatreon's attacks and to build a strategy fitting to your style. As a last thing I would recommend to do it solo, because the DPS requirements are way lower and you have better chances of survival. In the end you're going to piss on Alatreon's mouth as much as i do right now.
@@gamingispleasure8436 Another thing, he does the nova every 7 minutes, Alatreon stays 3 minutes in the first element he has at the start of the fight (Fire active or Ice active), then he goes to Dragon for 4 minutes.
@@oguz_toru For the nova just bring a weapkn with high elemental damage (I recomend dragon) , keep attacking until he does a special fall animation or until the handler says: "Good job containing Alatreon's power". This will weaken Escanton Judgement considerably and will allow you to survive. Now, to out heal the attack you should bring sushi fish scales+ and astera jerky . These items are fast consumables that heal a pretty big amount health.
I think getting through the special assignment is the hardest part as alot of ransoms there don't exactly bring the ideal amount of element damage to be able to cancel his escaton goodbye everyone dance. Also it's ironic how his gear is very good for the fight against himself😂.
Astrea Moonlight I once witnessed two teammates come out of the cutscene and get deleted immediately by Alatreon fire quake attack... Random lobbies need a different kind of help...
This is by far the most accurate and helpful video on Alatreon I've seen yet. So many other videos miss smaller yet still very crucial details, like how his elemental weakness shifts, how the elements actually cycle, how breaking his horns disrupts the cycle, or the differences between the two event quests. Absolutely fantastic job.
No way, Alatreon has easily some of the slowest and dodge capable moves in the game, at least from the perspective of shielded weapons. It’s the nova attack where I draw the line and call horse shit.
with LBG you don't need to break the horns. i solo'd him switching between fire, ice and dragon ammo with the luna blaze lbg. plunder blade can give you the items to craft his lbg, giving you RF all elements including dragon(which btw absolutely wrecks him). his lbg is just broken.
I crafted his LBG and upgraded it fully without beating him. My buddy and I came at him with GS (him) and DB (me) to cut tail. Make sure to add partbreaker to your armor for easier cut. We wore armor (like two piece guild palace set) that gives extra carves. Tail has a chance to yield his gem. Cats had paralysis weapon and plunderblade, which can plunder his gem or at least 4 other parts. We don't even give a shit about breaking horn or containing his nova. Brought temporal mantle and rocksteady to reliably flinch shot him when he's not enraged. Everytime you flinch him to the ground, he drops an item. We collect them, then continue to go after tail. When he topples, we go in for tail cut. Supernova? Who cares. We take nova to the face, cart, then come back and keep going at his tail until it comes off. Then took turn being decoy so the other person can carve. After carving, we run around and whistle at cats to plunder. Then we "return from quest" and collect cat's plunder. The whole thing took a few minutes. With his lbg crafted and fully upgraded, we came back and killed him for real. Try this method if you want to farm him for his LGB.

All you even need is the right insect. Spamming the black one with the big horn as long as it’s power buffed and equipped with the opposite element will trip Alatreon all by itself. So if you’re good at tripping without kinsect, use the above mentioned that’s the opposite of your Glaive in case you can’t defeat Alatreon quick enough after two horns breaks.

@@yanfei7782 yeah kind of. If you go in with an ice weapon (when he starts as fire) it's really not that hard to knock him down and weaken the nova. The hard part is that then you need to break the horns twice to keep him weak to ice the whole time
grab the luna blaze lbg, and the plunder blade so you can craft his lbg. that RF dragon ammo rocks his world in dragon active. it can take half an hour but its totally doable, and the plunder blade gets you the items to craft any of the weapons then just wreck him with his own weapons.
I agree, the mechanic is unfair. Not being able to change your weapon mid-game _(without having to die)_ is stupid considering that if the horns are broken, perhaps HALF+ of the players won't be able to stack elemental damage because of whatever they already equipped.

The mechanics for air flinch shot is the monster has to be not facing a wall and for rathalos velkhana and goldian they have to also be at hight 1 "the hight where you highest reach attack can hit the monster (except hbg,lbg,db and sns obviously)"
At 8:34 you recommend taking dragon element because at least it's doing damage all the time. I thought this at first as well, but then I checked out the HZV table for Alatreon and it seems that even though dragon is "1 star" in the fire and ice phases, he might as well be immune since the highest dragon HZV in those phases is LITERALLY TWO. If you go into fight with the Blaze LBG (ice/fire) or the Styx LBG (water/thunder), or if you use any gun that fires multiple elemental ammo types, it's better if you DON'T break horns. You want Alatreon to shift elements so that you can alternate ammo type. If you break horns and it stays in ice or fire phase too long, you will run out of ammo and will need to die to replenish. The shifting elements is actually a good thing.
If you're having problems with breaking the horns, yeet him to the wall when he is in dragon mode, it will always make one horn break if you're playing solo
Tried all weekend with my MHW duo buddy to beat this. Many many attempts using 800 elemental damage weapons. Ice and or Dragon. Not a single time did we weaken the nova. Not a single time did we meet this supposedly "just hit it a bit with elemental weapons" dps check. Its bullshit. We spend more time chasing it and getting knocked down than actually hitting it. Using CB and SA btw. 400+ hours and feel like I've never played this game before.
About 500 - 600 elemental damage with critical element can elemental breaked him (solo). Although the main problem starts starts when he becomes "always angry" Mode. When he is angry, his attack become more intense.
Took me like 5 full tries, I did it solo. The best way was using an elemental LBG with both ice and fire rapid fire elemental ammo. I did it just under 30 minutes. (bring full potions and astera meat) skills: blight resistance, fortify, health+50, fire and ice lvl 6, safijiva full armor.
I am running HH Support for this with the Safi Frosthorn. Its awakened abilities are: Element Melody IV Tigrex Essence Element up VI Element up V Element up V Its songs are: Self Improvement Elemental Attack Up (S - L) Blight Resistance Up (S - L) Elemental Effectiveness Up Armor skills: Ice Attack 6 Wide-range 5 Tool Specialist 5 ---(Lunastra 3pc bonus: Tool Specialist Secret - head, chest, legs) Attack Boost 4 ---(I had it at 6 but Alatreon is giving me too much trouble so I opted for the defence since it has no bearing on elemental attack) Defence boost 3 Speed Eater 3 Free Meal 3 ---(Tigrex essence: 75% free heals! - ams, waist)Armour rating is just over 1000. The rest of the skills are just byproducts. I know that Hunting Horn isn't great for elemental attack, but this is literally the best set I can think of bringing to the fight. I'm yet to beat it, but I have enough materials to make 2 of its base weapons (not sure about upgrading though)....
My friend and I went for 3 melee all fire/ice + 1 Alatreon LBG. 3 melee is usually good enough for at lease 2 element knockdown and horn break. The Alatreon LBG is the fail save. If the melee guys somehow screw up and failed to break the horn by the 1st nova, Alatreon LBG is good enough to take down at least the majority of element threshold by the 2nd dragon phase. That means an easy element knockdown when the melee people back to doing some element damage. It feels good to rapid fire every elemental ammo and save your team from the 2nd nova.
I only killed it twice during multiplayer but have a lot of success when do it solo later. I'm using switchaxe btw Here's some tips, I hope it helps: - The ground exploding fire attack and all it's lighting attacks are very easy to i-frame. Especially when you use Safi armors (built-in evade window 3) -The fire and frost breath attack is one of the best moment to attack. Run towards him in diagonal and you can hit the head easily or at least go for the front legs -You only need 2 Astera Jerky to survive Escaton Judgement. Drop the health booster and pick whatever tools can help you with the offensive -Whenever it's not enrage, lure it to the wall and do flinch shot. Trust me, you gonna need every chance you have to attack the head (massive hitzone for both raw and elements) -DO NOT CLUTCH CLAW INTO ITS HEAD DURING AND FEW SECONDS AFTER IT'S DOING LIGHTNING ATTACKS, ESPECIALLY WITH TEMPORAL MANTLES ON I'm not even a subscriber but I stayed watching your livestream from the Zinogre hunts until the point you're frustated with Alatreon. You rock, I hope my father is as cool as you!
After MANY attempts with a buddy we were able to net 3 victories. I feel like Ive gotten him down well enough to try some solo gs runs, and tbh, while hes still a decently tough fight, his nova is what makes the fight "hard". Its just artificial difficulty, balony gimmicks. We were starting to get Extremoth ptsd from the quests
I disagree. I haven't slain him yet, testing builds with a few friends, but I know it's not the same as the Extremoth fight. It's not a death sentence if you're determined, Ecliptic Meteor IS.

Behemoth is still the most fun and challenging quest in the game! When he runs towards you if you shoot a Crystal Burst at his head he hits the wall(if it's right, just like Barroth)
Also if u put vitality mantle and health booster on and equip to radial menu as soon as he begins nova use both IMMEDIATELY (as long as u eat and have full health bar), u can survive nova....its a sacrifice of your other mantles/boosters, but it works😉
Everyone; "Alright what element do I need to bring today" Me with my Alatreon LBG; "I'll just bring every element" I highly recommend this LBG for all that are having trouble with this fight, also I was able to craft it and upgrade it with out defeating Alatreon first. Just use a Sticky HBG with Partbreaker, Fortitude and Palaco Plunderblade and focus on the horns and wings you can get all the crafting parts except the tail you can even rarely get a Dragonsphire. Good luck everyone and don't give up it took me 2 days of 6hr sessions to finally beat him solo.
I fought him success with dragon element last night and I learn one thing... When alatreon is inflicted with elderseal, somehow he cannot use the supernova move and some of his element move are disabled a bit. I realized when hit it more and it stagger him so much.

For survivability against his elemental attacks, evasion and stun resistance is a must. I was constantly dying due to being stunned and then his lightning would zap me to death. You need full evasion. The invulnerability window is very generous with full evasion. I can dodge through his fire breath and lightning attacks without any issues.
just throwing it for the people who might find it useful. when alatreon does a lightning base attack, you can safely clutch to his head AFTER the lightning effect on his head is gone if not to clutch, it gives a wide opening regardless once you dodge it, so go crazy
This is a paste from a comment I did somewhere else, I hope it helps: Use weapons with high elemental damage. The best elements are [Fire] for [Ice active mode], [Ice] for [Fire active mode] and [Dragon] to always do elemental damage in every elemental mode. He starts with a different element, Ice active or Fire active, depending on the name of the quest. To prevent Alatreon from going to the opposite element break his horns during dragon phase( they are only breakable during the [Dragon] phase). Before changing elements he does Escaton Judgement (nova). He follows this order when changing: [Starting element] -> [Dragon + Escaton Judgement] -> [Opposite of starting element]. He does his nova around 5 to 7 minutes into the fight and with weakening it once is enough to outheal it. Bring Astera Jerky, Great Sushifish Scale, Max Potions and Ancient Potions to survive the nova. Use Safi'jiiva's set to increase elemental damage; also it has enough space for defensive skills, 3 levels of Evade Window and free 40 Affinity. I recommend equipping blight resistance, knockout resistance and health boost as defensive skills. Don't forget to fully upgrade your armor and put a health regen augment on your weapons. Before the fight leave your cat in camp and eat for Feline Insurance. Combat Tips: 1-During th fight try to stay near the front legs, it's the safest spot and has the best elemental hitzones. 2-DO NOT run around, it will make you deal less damage and trigger Alatreon's ranged attacks. 3-You can roll away and through almost every [Lighting] attack Alatreon does, and those are the ones with the most openings. 4-The Fire attack with multiple explosions must be rolled away first and after the center explosion happens roll back in, he is open until the last explosion. 5-When he flies up and does an AOE fire or ice breath attack pointing beneath him : clutch and tenderize if you want. 6-If he is flying just stay under him and attack the rear legs or the tail. 7-In the air he does two or three claw attacks depending wether he is enraged or not. Well, when he is done doing it he goes into a little rest animation in which you can cluth or attack. 8-Always try to stay close to him and don't panic, his strongest attacks give pretty good openings. 9-Beware of physical attacks, those give dragonblight and knock you out easily ( Thats why you bring blight resistance and knockout resistance) 10-I recommended you to do a few practice hunts just to learn the patterns and get used to the flow of the fight. As a last piece of advice, please, do the hunt solo, it will give you higher chances of survival and it lowers the DPS check, plus Alatreon will always stay close to you. Bro can I ask, I bring an ice weapon to suppress the element easy but whether I can break the horns or not is such a toss up and it’s getting so annoying. How do you save time and break the horns as quick as possible to be on top of him in time before he does Escaton judgement (so I can do full elemental damage throughout the entire fight). Do you FOCUS on wall banging him or is there a better way to go for his horns. It feels like I have no choice but to break the horns every dragon phase in order to beat him... Also once both horns are broken does that mean I’m screwed and should die to switch weapons or what because at that point, Escaton is basically unavoidable.
When you’re trying to flinch shot him, if possible, try to do it when he’s in the air. Most of his attacks in the air don’t knock you off so even if you don’t have any rocksteady or temporal it’s still quite doable. He doesn’t do thunder attacks when he’s in the air and the only moves that can knock you off from his head are charging attacks and the stomp. He’s guaranteed a knockdown when you at least slap his head once, doing that also stops his movement for a bit so the flinch afterwards is sure to bring him down from the air. Try not to use any flash pods also. It doesn’t work when he’s enraged and you’ll be wasting a knockdown when you flash him when he’s flying
The aerial flinch shot requires the monster to hit the ground in order to be successful. Monsters will ignore walls if you flinch shot them while they are flying - they _have_ to hit the ground. I find that Alatreon is easier to flinch shot successfully while flying compared to when it is on the ground.
@3:00 If you aren't counting the special assignment what exactly is the guide for? You can't do the Event if you havn't done the special assignment. If you have done the special assignment you probably aren't watching a guide, and would have figured out after a few attempts to swap elemental weapons per quest.
Nice info bro, I think that you have explained the mechanics of the fight much better than the guys of the Developer Diary. I have killed this guy 16 times all in Multiplayer. currently I'm using his LS and the entire Alatreon B+ set to help randoms in SOS flares or in online sessions. Now I will try it for my own
Finally soloed him with lance earlier. Took 26 tries. Had to use Velkhana Lance with Safi Armor and Ice Attack Decos. (Next week I can upgrade my ice kjarr Lance tho) Just a few tips Bring (and I can't stress this enough) Blight Resistance. He inflicts dragonblight so easily which renders your elemental damage useless unless you heal it with nulberries. Just nullify that shit with Blight Resistance Eat for this red Special bonus. Gives you felyne safeguard. Extremely viable. Then, use Fortify. Since you have 4 lives thanks to the meal, the first two faints are just Making you stronger without losing much. For his attacks (lance tips mainly) When he does his electric stuff. You are pretty safe under him. Just wait until he stands on 4 legs again and hit his front legs or head. His lightning won't hit you. Learn the timings for his melee attacks. You can counter many things. His claw attack is a free counter, his tail swipe comes out two times so don't counter too recklessly. Same for his horn swipes. Those are similar to Diablos. His big head slam knocks you back but you can go for a full guard and counter with that. The Ice and Fire AOE Breaths are dangerous but with Guard 5 you should be able to block the whole thing. When he is in the air, your upward pokes easily hit the hind legs and the tail. Stay under him and poke. Except for the mentioned AOE Attacks he can't do much there. Use your shield Dash. This is a neat movement option to dodge his lightning rows or breaths and you can perform your leaping thrust out of it (3 small Hits) and Go l right into poking. Make usage of your movement Options. Lance is so much more than a stationary tank.
For his Nova? No. It is actually insanely fast tick damage. So it nullifies guts. His other attacks (except for fire and ice AOE breaths) you can survive with guts
2:20 idk man. I'm still trying to do the first slay quest and it seems like I can do enough ele dmg to him by the first judgement to survive (mind u I'm completely cheesing it with a velox ice kinsect and ele boost glave), but the second time around when he does that fire judgement... its curtains for me... curtains. Started to think "well maybe since I'm using an ice kinsect and a dragon glave I'm just not doing enough ele dmg"... but damn. Was thinking of trying the fenrir rose and changing my kinsect to fire instead.. this way I get the best of both worlds. Maybe even augment it with some health regen and go to town.
I finally beat Aletreon by myself after 3 days! It took a while for me too but I managed to find a way to beat him even if it took 30 minutes. I ate to get Safeguard and tried my best to not die to the nova until after his second horn broke which would mean he went from Fire to ice. Even if i had a ice weapon against him being in his ice form, all i would have to do is do “extra” damage until he killed me with his nova because of me doing no damage, but you can damage him when he goes into his dragon active state. You have a slight chance to not die but even if you do, you have 2 deaths left to kill him and in that time, in the last fire active state you have enough time to kill him or repeat the rotation and die to get him back into his fire active state. This method worked for me but it required a lot of patience and knowledge of his moveset to not die to anything but his nova
I thought it was a bullshift fight at first, but the more I play the more I like it, it's actually tuned pretty well. I've come really close to killing him solo but no cigar yet, will keep trying.
Dual blades main here. Solo'ed second try. I have to agree that's a great weapon for Alatreon, I can't see myself doing it with a less element intensive weapon. Many times I reached the nova threshold seconds before he cast it. Also, fortfy and Bligh resistance 3 are mandatory for me, cause you know, if I mess up the horns, ate least I can back up stronger
“Constantly flinching him” All GS users: yeah boy “Elemental damage” All GS users: cry softly like a man in the corner I honestly can’t solo him with my trusty greatsword and had to change to my long sword to solo him. His fight is so amazing though that I don’t care.
Also if you need to clutch claw him to boop him into a wall or out of the sky use Temporal Mantle. This will help you not get flung off due to the little openings Alatreon provides especially while airborne. Be careful though its fast attack animations while you are clutch clawed with Temporal Mantle can deplete it in no time. It's a good use still especially if you need to get good damage in before the nova.
I thought I would add this to help others (at least for Dual Blade users), Succeded my first kill last night. (solo of coarse) While I can’t say much about my fire weapon, in terms of Ice I used Beo with affinity II, def 1, Elemental III. Witha armor I used (fully augmented ) Damascus Helm B, and Namielle for the rest. (used lvl V elemental Charm, Temp And Rock mantles. With the gems added 3 vitality, 3 tenderizor, fortitude, finished blight resistance, got def to lvl 6, then filled up the rest with expert and charger (just as a bonus), mantles had expert (6 while mantles worn)and weapons finished the elemental dmg. Ate Elemental L during, but Ate Safeguard first round (though lost it but weakened Ale and broke horn by then thus was able to do fine surviving blast), after breaking both horns and fighting him ice vs ice I sadly died before his 4th explosion thus loosing 2 lives in a row :(. Somehow finished him in his 2nd time of ice (with an ice weapon of coarse at that point). On a side note.... if solo at least, the fight pauses if you die it looks like, so if you get stuck with the wrong element then die before his explosion, count that as 2 deaths...... :(
I've beaten alatreon solo using Dualblades, longsword, chargeblade and Insect glaive. Im gonna try switch axe, hammer, bow and SnS next. This guy is definitely soloable. You just need to practice a bit. Good luck to all the hunter out there. Happyyyy huntiiing!
DonPetexX actually it was a kyarr water, i used 3 piece safi, head, gloves, and boots beta, and 2 piece namielle gamma, chest and waist. Maxed out my evade window and evade extender plus blight resistance made it really easy to dodge most attacks
• Serena • yes i was, if youre having a hard time weakening the novas I recommend using an ice or fire weapon when he is 3 stars weak to it, it makes getting the dps check extremely easy especially on solo, just make sure you break the horns during dragon active before the nova so he doesnt switch elements
You can actually cheese the escaton judgement by using an insectglaive and giving your kinsect the opposite element. That way you don't need to care about the Horns anymore. So for one phase fight normaly for the other use the kinsect and for dragon use both. Using only your kinsect is pretty goofy and not that exciting to play but it is actually really safe and also very effective. So basicly apply animal abuse for animal abuse. Have fun !
You can't really solo if you are using non-elemental weapons or weapons who has very little elemental DPS, like GS or Gun Lance. Although it might be possible if you utilize both Safeguard and Insurance from felyne kitchen skill. Make 2 sets of your preferred weapon, a fire set and an ice set. If you can break his horn during his dragon phase then you can lock him on his primary element, and its actually possible and easy to kill him if you can do it. But if you fail to break the horn, it means you are going to die soon anyway, meaning the 2nd escaton judgment, make sure you change your set according to the element at that point, ALSO DON'T forget to put fortify in both sets.
Been at this ever since this nightmare was released, and man this monster is a pain in the ass. It seems he just spams so much that I have no time to really do enough damage. I am using elemental damage, I’ve tried stacking affinity and crit, I’ve tried so many weapons yet I just can’t pull it off. So far I just need four wings for armor set thanks to plunder blade but I’m at my wit’s end right now. Ugh, I think I need to take a break from this just to stay sane. Any more tips on just how to manage this solo will be greatly appreciated. 😰
Upgraded Kjarr Ice weapons(Critical Element). Just make sure to keep breaking the horn so he doesn't switch modes. Other than that, just learn his openings. Oh and wait for the flinch shots(against the wall, in the air) until he's in dragon mode to help break his horns.
I got frustrated in MP so I tried solo and killed him 2nd try. So I would definitely advise ppl to go solo The thresholds are actually quite easy to reach in solo I recommend low animation commitment weapons like IG and DB they pretty good matchup
Alatreons light bow gun can use all elements, so you will always be effective against him, while having almost enough ammo to kill him, just farm it using plunderblade.
If your problem is the nova, that means that it is not the only problem you have. You might not be aggressive enough. Soloable even with only one element. I would have been disappointed if I had it easier before finishing what is supposed to be endgame content. If anything, they should have walled this behind MR 100 at least to gate off some newer folks. You don't need the right element, just enough element and breaking the horns during the correct time. Using the right element just helps making it easier. The head is easy to partbreak, with a lot of alatreon's aoe casting moves locking him in place with his head down. In general you need to evade INTO him, not away. If you have the right resistances, you can stand in some of his AOEs and tank the damage while hitting him with Health Augment, or clutch into his face when he is doing downward breaths. You are punished if you clutch in too late with an air dash because you hesitated. This is a good case of the "competent enemy vs incompetent ally" quote. It's not artificial difficulty, since it rewards skillful aggressive play, banding together with hunters to plan, and building to a monster correctly- which are core gameplay and fits the lore of the monster being an elemental god of sorts. If you play randos or use SOS and expect to be carried, then prepare to be judged- Escaton style.
Not sure if you covered it in the video, but how do you stop him from switching after the phases where you've already broken his horns? That's been my main reason for dying

Beat this solo, used all 4 lives (insurance and safeguard). I did not break the horns. I used velkana ds with 5 safi set. Just tender the front legs and focus on that. Took me 8 tries.
I play regular Lance and the struggle has never been more real. I lack a lot of the key decos (Guard Up, Protective Polish, etc.) and after about 8 hours of attempts over the last two days, solo and in groups, including one where I broke both horns solo but somehow didn’t do enough element damage for the weakening, I just deleted the game lol I’m trying to find the motivation to try some more but I REALLY don’t wanna deco grind anymore than I already have these last two years
For Alatreon If you have no idea what you're doing, and you aren't super good against him yet, bring a support build Because good Lord, he becomes 10x easier when you have a healbot in the background with technically infinite heals with the Tigrex meal secret set bonus it is such a godsend
For me it was the exact oposing. Managed to solo it no problem but had several problems on multi. People tend to come unprepared for the fight, bringing blast weapons, and sometimes not even buffs and heals. Not to mention that I always had a guy managing to cart in the first 30 secs of the fight or wasting 2-3 carts all the time.
At first having struggled and failing probably close to 10 times in a row and now having countless back to back flawless runs done, here's what I can give to you all: BLIGHT RESISTANCE 3 AND HEALTH AUGMENT MAKE THE FIGHT EXTREMELY EASY Applies for both solo and mp (I play mostly mp) Also make sure to flinch shot him every time he's yellow, knockdowns make breaking horns a cakewalk. Elemental trips you should achieve by just playing normally (best elemental HZs are his front legs though so focus those if you are struggling to meet the threshold) Literally any weapon works great (HBG is iffy), but if you are playing IG stick to ground glaive (you can mount him once first, after that his threshold just gets too high so it's not worth it going for any more mounts) Oh yeah and when he starts channeling Escaton you get literally 5 seconds of free dps before the need to use a jerky so dont just back off and afk, just make sure you have time to gobble that bad boi up One more thing, DO NOT USE DRAGON ELEMENT IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER ELEMENT AVAILABLE! His Dragon HZ values are absolute garbage so although the game claims he's 2* weak to it it's the Nergi Thunder case all over again, so not worth. If you have the choice and can consistently break the horns, you should always just match the starting element's weakness. I have personally just run Safi's Water GS (we always go the fire start quest since my friends both run Ice) and we can consistently meet the threshold in about 3-4 minutes so don't sweat that part But yeah, I used to cart a lot but after the health augment + blight res set up I think I have died twice total (I play GS, and started learning it with Alatreon so it really makes the quest exponentially easier) Happy hunting and good luck!
I'm at the point where I can solo him with relative ease and, in my personal experience, the fight is made significantly harder if you don't bring his specific starting weakness. I haven't been able to beat him even a single time while bringing dragon element solo while I've been able to do it consistently bringing his weakness. If you're not confident in breaking the horns, you can still try dragon, I'm not saying it's impossible, it's just not advisable. Also, remember that the horns only reset his element shifts, they don't disable his final shift entirely. After you reset his cycle twice, it's either you kill him before he kills you or he shifts to counter you and it's game over.
Basically the real way hitzones in this game work means if Ala is in Ice, you do basically 0 Dragon Damage. If he's in Dragon form Ice only does slightly less damage then Dragon. So Dragon is a massive trap that you should never use.
It's not Game over then. He went to ice mode after his 3rd Nova and I killed him in the following dragon mode. Just accept your demise at the following nova tho. But push hard and he might die before that
I m not sure but I think there is also a bug that sometimes alatreon attacks the same person without stop completely ignores other team mates attack after attack
I dont have an issue with his moves. I dont have the dps check. I dont hate breaking horns. But I've passed 3 checks, broke both horns, and he isn't half way dead. Why the fuck is he not dying. I dodge his moves, hit the weak points, and sure I die a bit, but why in the hell is he not dead after all that. I've been trying for a week straight and can't beat him. Not solo, or duo, or a full squad has helped. I dont know what to do at this point. I actually hate him now. I've tried more damage, more comfort, different weapons, and everytime I can pass the checks and break horns but his 50k health pool keeps fucking me over.
My build consists of 1 Kulve Kjarr Crit element weapon, 3 Teostra armor sets for Master's Touch and 2 Namielle armor sets for Elemental Acceleration. Seems to be decent enough. I suggest using either Water element or Dragon element weapon because those two at worst 1 star damage on Alatreon.
Actually got quite lucky and did it twice with groups first hour. Dedicated healers in both if I remember. Took a few hours to solo. Went for my Masters Touch Namiel elemental build with a Kjar Thunder element LS. Maxed out elemental resistances with eating except water. First two dps check got nearly 100% of the time, 3rd and 4th seemed more troublesome. Now just need 2 damn jems to drop !
bring a level of wide range for preemptive potion chugging at full health during nova. i think dragon element greatsword is good for horn breaking but everyone else needs to have ice/fire. you can farm parts for one of his unupgraded weapons by going solo or 2player and bring a palico with plunder blade, aim for horn break and you should get enough materials even if you fail to kill.
I tried a few times solo with SnS. Was able to survive the nova but couldn't consistently break the horns. I will try dragon element now that you suggested it.
Alright, cleared my head after beating him, these are the problems I got with the fight, the rocks are too small and his positioning makes it very annoying to slam him on the wall. Sometimes if you get a group that does too much damage, he enrages ALL the time which gives you 10 seconds max to clutch and throw him down which again, makes things annoying, not difficult. Other than that, I think the fight is fine, the attacks after a couple of tries are not THAT hard although you will still probably get hit by some here and there. If they fix the whole "Slam him in the rocks the size of a pebble to break his horns and if he enrages you are screwed" I think its gonna be amazing.
I have yet to hit the elemental triger once. I wont say ive mastered the rest of the hunt but the escaton judgement is definitely the part thats blocking me. Im using the legiana maxed out swaxe with level 6 ice attack 750 ice in total. My buddy is using ebony odogaron dbs maxes out with extra dragon damage. Something that i just thought about, does the swaxe not deal elemental damage when in axe mode? Edit: I should mention that im doing the one where he starts fire too.
Your partner should go ice dbs. I’m duoing with a GS main and with ice dbs we hit the elemental threshold pretty consistently. Just make sure you apply buffs and you be aggressive
As soccutd77 said, you should both go for ice. Also quick tip regarding SA during amped sword mode: if your partner has flinch free and you re both attacking Alatreon, try staying close to him. You get an additional phial explosion when you hit a team mate, a palico or some of the small monsters. Your damage will be much higher, especially in a 4 man hunt. Edit: The Swagaxe you mentioned has an elemental phial. It deals extra elemental damage with sword mode,so you should be good to go. If both of you use ice and get the special knockdown in the first minutes of the fight, you can focus on his head after that and break one of his horns during Dragon mode. He ll use his weakened nova (use Astera jerkys and/or health boosters to survive it). After that he ll be in fire mode again and you can repeat that process. I hope this helps 👍
@@soccutd77 thanks for the tip with using all ice. We are hitting the check pretty often now and it no longer feels impossible. Something small and stupid we also did was change our cats weapons to ice. One of them actually managed to smack him out of the sky.
True comments from ruri solo you can go enough damage and only die to the nova and win! Pack the cat with vigorwasp for an extra revive I know it’s cheesy but my only solo is with 2 carts. But in multiplayer I cannot register a kill it’s very very hard dps threshold and if you fail it’s a full wipe of 3 carts
what about status ailment weapons? i really love poison for example, and so far i have been riding pretty good with it (sns and lance), does the fight work with poison, or should i craft a "xyz" element weapon?
So....how much Elemental Damage do you need to deal with that Escaton AOE discharge? I am a long ways away from being able to hunt Alatreon, but I want to have a big idea what to do as a Bow user, like how much elemental I need for my bow to be effective. So far I was able to bump up My Dragon elemental bow over 500. Need to work on maximizing it to the Shara line. That and I intend to make a Velkhana bow for its ice element. Any hard numbers and armor suggestions would help me out greatly.
I don't really know how elemental numbers vary between weapons but I used Velkhana Lance with 4 Ice Attack which ended up at around 660 Ice (full Safi Armor). That was enough to hit clear the DPS check pretty constantly

I see so many people on social media say the fight isn't fun, I personally think they are just blind with rage. Alatreons fight, along with the new moves he gets, is AMAZING, this is what a Black Dragon is suppose to be like, a literal God that one shots you. I will admit, it is frustrating when you don't stagger him, but I also tend to forget that this is no ordinary Elder Dragon

Tips:
1. Use a weapon that deals a lot of elemental damage. Thunder/Dragon elements let you deal balanced elemental damage during ice/fire/dragon attacks. Refer to the large monster guide for details.
2. Eat Felyne safeguard/insurance meal that gives your team an extra cart if someone dies.
Grab a crystalburst at the camp.
3. Bring astera jerky and nullberries. Use Health Boost and astera jerky when the monster hits the ground during the super attack. You won't survive unless your team had dealt enough elemental attack beforehand.
4. I find Switch Axe to be the most effective melee weapon. I used power prolonger and focus skills (level 2). I keep attacking with elemental discharge while wearing the rocksteady and temporal mantles.
5. Try to knock the monster to the wall and break the horns.
6. Use good armor with Divine Blessing (Gold Rathian) and Health Recovery (Blackveil Vaal Hazak) pieces.
7. Once you get past the Special Assignment, the Event quests are easier to beat with better players.

Hard as hell to clutch claw and tenderize as much as we're used to. He constantly moves and knocks you off. Very small windows.

the best way is when alatreon flying, try to wait for alatreon to use any move and right at the end of the move u start clutch claw on to it u will have enough time to do a weapon attack or slap it then do the flinch shot

What i do sometimes, is use the crystal bullets for slinger (available at camp) to flinch alatreon once someone clutch claw him.
Key openings that you can exploit when alatreon is doing an attack:
1.) Random Lightning Barrage - this one is an attack he does alot. He stays in this position when he channels this ability. But be careful, he does a follow up run charge/swipe/slam. Attack him when he is charging or when he is channeling the ability and just be mindful of where his lightnings land. As a side note, his lightnings do not land on the same spot twice, so you can go to a spot where the lightning has already landed.
2.) Fire and Ice ground breath attack- he charges or pauses before he does this attack. If you are close to him make use of this opening since he cant reach you. Also, if you are far from him and his firebreath is coming towards you, you can roll sideways when he does his firebreath and you wont get damaged.
3.) Aerial attacks when he's not enraged - this one is a free topple down. Dont just randomly clutch claw and ram him into the edges of the map. There are big rocks on the map where he can be rammed into when he is on the ground. However, when he is flying a simple clutch claw and slinger burst will topple him which can give you alot of time to deal damage.
4.) Ground slam/Aerial head slam- he pauses a little bit when he finishes this move. For aerial head slam, he slams 2 times when not enraged and 3 times when enraged. After this you can punish him.
5.) Flash pods- this only works when he is not enraged. I usually dont use this cuz it is better to clutch claw and slinger burst him when he is not enraged. But feel free to use this when you need to.
EDIT:
6.) Change form explosion/ dragon explosion - this one you can see a mile away. Superman dive out of this or simply run. However, when you are behind him, in line with his tail, the explosion does not reach there so you dont get damaged. Use this opening to land free hits if you are ranged.

Aerial Headslam has been christened the Body Slam of Doom by my group. :P
1) just a quick tip for the lightning - standing directly behind his front legs is always safe. You can hit the back legs during the wind up or the front when he lands. There is never lightning here.
2) when he jumps in the air and shoots the fire/ice straight down, it's a free clutch claw on anything that isn't the head. You get to tenderizer a part and avoid the damage.
3) the lightning wall thing that slowly moves forward. It's pretty easy to just walk towards him through the lightning since there's a decently sized pause between each one. He stands still for a bit while using this move so run towards him, not away.
4) the ground attack where he slams the ground with his front 2 legs and dragon element that pins you if you get hit by it. It has a pretty tight hitbox in my experience and he sits there for a bit when he hits the ground - I can usually get in a full demon flurry.
Edit: I just realized you talked about this one
5) in multiplayer, the 2 or 3 lines of lightning in random directions is free damage if it's not aimed at you.
@@alecsanabria adding onto your tips: 1) it's true that the lightning would not hit under its belly, but do keep in mind that he will move (dragon charge, especially) before the barrage ends. try not to panic roll into lightnings.
3). that move I like to call it "creeping barrage". Not sure about the meaning of ”pause“ you mentioned, but both the time between each lightning waves and the gaps between each lightnings are quite generous. it is always 5 waves if not interrupted.
4). if not enraged, the end of 2nd slam is a tight but good openning for slipping in a clutch claw flinch shot to it face.
5). In my opinion, it might not be the case if everyone is using melee or close together. The targeted can aviod these lightning lines by just calmly walking, but sometimes the same move can catch someone else in the middle of their animations. That's one of the reasons I use elemental LBG (more percisely Alatreon's own LBG) for this fight. it's less crowded near Alatreon, and if I was targeted, my teammates would not be distracted by lightnings.
Also add: STOP USING BLAST WEAPONS.

I can die three times to the nova in a single fight. The problem is that I can’t pass the checks reliably solo. So my problem is damage output while dodging; not just dodging.
This feels like more of a problem of your build or weapon type, the check isn't that high on solo
@@joaoluizkurianskifreitassa2436 It's a regular safi LS crit build (Water). I didnt farm KT so I dont have any of the Kjarr weapons. I've seen a dude soloing Alatreon with pretty much the same build though.
I'm working on a Styx build to see if I have better luck with that.

A lot of people are struggling with their positioning after the Alatreon attacks. If he does the ice breath at the ground, you don't run away, you clutch claw to him. If he does the fire rings on the ground, you don't run away, you run into it and attack his head. If he's in the air and you know you can knock him down with the clutch claw shot (if not enraged), then do it. It's all dps.

I tried solo and multiplayer and I failed every single time cuz of ridiculous hitboxes and stuipdly boosted damage of him. That frustrated me so hard I made the decision today that I leave IB.
Over one- hundred tries but just 5 times of them the fight looked really good but then he turned into madness.
@@gamingispleasure8436 I have done him solo a bunch of times already. Once you get used to it it becomes easy as hell. The key is to have high elemental damage, good defensive skills and learn the patterns. His electric attacks can be dodged through and leave wide windows for attacks. When he is flying he has 3 or so attacks with rest animations (opening) , stay beneath him and you will be ok . Always stay between the rear legs and the front legs and in some cases between the front legs and the head. His electric attack that hits multiple times across the map doesn't reach the front legs. The focuss of the fight is to survive the nova, eventually he will die at the second or third time of using it. You should consider bringing a high dragon weapon for the fight and equipping Safi'jiiva's armor (it allows you to stack defensive skills easily and increases elemental damage). Do a few practice runs just to adapt to alatreon's attacks and to build a strategy fitting to your style. As a last thing I would recommend to do it solo, because the DPS requirements are way lower and you have better chances of survival. In the end you're going to piss on Alatreon's mouth as much as i do right now.
@@gamingispleasure8436 Another thing, he does the nova every 7 minutes, Alatreon stays 3 minutes in the first element he has at the start of the fight (Fire active or Ice active), then he goes to Dragon for 4 minutes.
@@oguz_toru For the nova just bring a weapkn with high elemental damage (I recomend dragon) , keep attacking until he does a special fall animation or until the handler says: "Good job containing Alatreon's power". This will weaken Escanton Judgement considerably and will allow you to survive. Now, to out heal the attack you should bring sushi fish scales+ and astera jerky . These items are fast consumables that heal a pretty big amount health.
I think getting through the special assignment is the hardest part as alot of ransoms there don't exactly bring the ideal amount of element damage to be able to cancel his escaton goodbye everyone dance. Also it's ironic how his gear is very good for the fight against himself😂.
It also doesn't help that the special assignment shoves you right in Alatreons face so you can't chug drinks beforehand

with LBG you don't need to break the horns. i solo'd him switching between fire, ice and dragon ammo with the luna blaze lbg.
plunder blade can give you the items to craft his lbg, giving you RF all elements including dragon(which btw absolutely wrecks him). his lbg is just broken.
Blazed Gaming KR but you can’t craft his items until you beat him once. The weapons and armor won’t show up.

I crafted his LBG and upgraded it fully without beating him. My buddy and I came at him with GS (him) and DB (me) to cut tail. Make sure to add partbreaker to your armor for easier cut. We wore armor (like two piece guild palace set) that gives extra carves. Tail has a chance to yield his gem. Cats had paralysis weapon and plunderblade, which can plunder his gem or at least 4 other parts. We don't even give a shit about breaking horn or containing his nova. Brought temporal mantle and rocksteady to reliably flinch shot him when he's not enraged. Everytime you flinch him to the ground, he drops an item. We collect them, then continue to go after tail. When he topples, we go in for tail cut. Supernova? Who cares. We take nova to the face, cart, then come back and keep going at his tail until it comes off. Then took turn being decoy so the other person can carve. After carving, we run around and whistle at cats to plunder. Then we "return from quest" and collect cat's plunder. The whole thing took a few minutes.
With his lbg crafted and fully upgraded, we came back and killed him for real. Try this method if you want to farm him for his LGB.
Its easier soloable. Less liability and don't have to rely on others. IG is also really good imo
only good if you are using ground combo not spamming aerial like a dumb mortal fuck. Because it's hit like a truck, my damage can reach 400 for some reason with my fire ig

All you even need is the right insect. Spamming the black one with the big horn as long as it’s power buffed and equipped with the opposite element will trip Alatreon all by itself. So if you’re good at tripping without kinsect, use the above mentioned that’s the opposite of your Glaive in case you can’t defeat Alatreon quick enough after two horns breaks.

Depending on your weapon, he's ALOT easier solo. DB's, SnS, CB, so long as you build for elemental you got this.
grab the luna blaze lbg, and the plunder blade so you can craft his lbg. that RF dragon ammo rocks his world in dragon active. it can take half an hour but its totally doable, and the plunder blade gets you the items to craft any of the weapons then just wreck him with his own weapons.
I agree, the mechanic is unfair. Not being able to change your weapon mid-game _(without having to die)_ is stupid considering that if the horns are broken, perhaps HALF+ of the players won't be able to stack elemental damage because of whatever they already equipped.

The mechanics for air flinch shot is the monster has to be not facing a wall and for rathalos velkhana and goldian they have to also be at hight 1 "the hight where you highest reach attack can hit the monster (except hbg,lbg,db and sns obviously)"
At 8:34 you recommend taking dragon element because at least it's doing damage all the time. I thought this at first as well, but then I checked out the HZV table for Alatreon and it seems that even though dragon is "1 star" in the fire and ice phases, he might as well be immune since the highest dragon HZV in those phases is LITERALLY TWO. It seems that if you wanna go the "medium damage all of the time" route the best options would be thunder or water.

If you go into fight with the Blaze LBG (ice/fire) or the Styx LBG (water/thunder), or if you use any gun that fires multiple elemental ammo types, it's better if you DON'T break horns. You want Alatreon to shift elements so that you can alternate ammo type. If you break horns and it stays in ice or fire phase too long, you will run out of ammo and will need to die to replenish. The shifting elements is actually a good thing.
If you're having problems with breaking the horns, yeet him to the wall when he is in dragon mode, it will always make one horn break if you're playing solo
Pretty sure the horn needs to be tendied for the guaranteed break.
Tried all weekend with my MHW duo buddy to beat this. Many many attempts using 800 elemental damage weapons. Ice and or Dragon.
Not a single time did we weaken the nova. Not a single time did we meet this supposedly "just hit it a bit with elemental weapons" dps check.
Its bullshit. We spend more time chasing it and getting knocked down than actually hitting it. Using CB and SA btw.
400+ hours and feel like I've never played this game before.
I do it solo with a 540 element damage LS, never managed to kill him tho.
About 500 - 600 elemental damage with critical element can elemental breaked him (solo). Although the main problem starts starts when he becomes "always angry" Mode. When he is angry, his attack become more intense.

You can pass the dps check on the nova using an ice safi gunlance, the problem is you dont deal optimal dmg.
Took me like 5 full tries, I did it solo. The best way was using an elemental LBG with both ice and fire rapid fire elemental ammo. I did it just under 30 minutes. (bring full potions and astera meat) skills: blight resistance, fortify, health+50, fire and ice lvl 6, safijiva full armor.

I know that Hunting Horn isn't great for elemental attack, but this is literally the best set I can think of bringing to the fight.
I'm yet to beat it, but I have enough materials to make 2 of its base weapons (not sure about upgrading though)....
My friend and I went for 3 melee all fire/ice + 1 Alatreon LBG. 3 melee is usually good enough for at lease 2 element knockdown and horn break. The Alatreon LBG is the fail save. If the melee guys somehow screw up and failed to break the horn by the 1st nova, Alatreon LBG is good enough to take down at least the majority of element threshold by the 2nd dragon phase. That means an easy element knockdown when the melee people back to doing some element damage. It feels good to rapid fire every elemental ammo and save your team from the 2nd nova.
I only killed it twice during multiplayer but have a lot of success when do it solo later. I'm using switchaxe btw
Here's some tips, I hope it helps:
- The ground exploding fire attack and all it's lighting attacks are very easy to i-frame. Especially when you use Safi armors (built-in evade window 3)
-The fire and frost breath attack is one of the best moment to attack. Run towards him in diagonal and you can hit the head easily or at least go for the front legs
-You only need 2 Astera Jerky to survive Escaton Judgement. Drop the health booster and pick whatever tools can help you with the offensive
-Whenever it's not enrage, lure it to the wall and do flinch shot. Trust me, you gonna need every chance you have to attack the head (massive hitzone for both raw and elements)
-DO NOT CLUTCH CLAW INTO ITS HEAD DURING AND FEW SECONDS AFTER IT'S DOING LIGHTNING ATTACKS, ESPECIALLY WITH TEMPORAL MANTLES ON

After MANY attempts with a buddy we were able to net 3 victories. I feel like Ive gotten him down well enough to try some solo gs runs, and tbh, while hes still a decently tough fight, his nova is what makes the fight "hard". Its just artificial difficulty, balony gimmicks. We were starting to get Extremoth ptsd from the quests

Behemoth is still the most fun and challenging quest in the game! When he runs towards you if you shoot a Crystal Burst at his head he hits the wall(if it's right, just like Barroth)
Also if u put vitality mantle and health booster on and equip to radial menu as soon as he begins nova use both IMMEDIATELY (as long as u eat and have full health bar), u can survive nova....its a sacrifice of your other mantles/boosters, but it works😉

I highly recommend this LBG for all that are having trouble with this fight, also I was able to craft it and upgrade it with out defeating Alatreon first. Just use a Sticky HBG with Partbreaker, Fortitude and Palaco Plunderblade and focus on the horns and wings you can get all the crafting parts except the tail you can even rarely get a Dragonsphire. Good luck everyone and don't give up it took me 2 days of 6hr sessions to finally beat him solo.
I fought him success with dragon element last night and I learn one thing...
When alatreon is inflicted with elderseal, somehow he cannot use the supernova move and some of his element move are disabled a bit. I realized when hit it more and it stagger him so much.

For survivability against his elemental attacks, evasion and stun resistance is a must. I was constantly dying due to being stunned and then his lightning would zap me to death. You need full evasion. The invulnerability window is very generous with full evasion. I can dodge through his fire breath and lightning attacks without any issues.
just throwing it for the people who might find it useful. when alatreon does a lightning base attack, you can safely clutch to his head AFTER the lightning effect on his head is gone
if not to clutch, it gives a wide opening regardless once you dodge it, so go crazy
This is a paste from a comment I did somewhere else, I hope it helps:
Use weapons with high elemental damage. The best elements are [Fire] for [Ice active mode], [Ice] for [Fire active mode] and [Dragon] to always do elemental damage in every elemental mode.
He starts with a different element, Ice active or Fire active, depending on the name of the quest. To prevent Alatreon from going to the opposite element break his horns during dragon phase( they are only breakable during the [Dragon] phase). Before changing elements he does Escaton Judgement (nova).
He follows this order when changing: [Starting element] -> [Dragon + Escaton Judgement] -> [Opposite of starting element]. He does his nova around 5 to 7 minutes into the fight and with weakening it once is enough to outheal it. Bring Astera Jerky, Great Sushifish Scale, Max Potions and Ancient Potions to survive the nova.
Use Safi'jiiva's set to increase elemental damage; also it has enough space for defensive skills, 3 levels of Evade Window and free 40 Affinity. I recommend equipping blight resistance, knockout resistance and health boost as defensive skills. Don't forget to fully upgrade your armor and put a health regen augment on your weapons. Before the fight leave your cat in camp and eat for Feline Insurance.
Combat Tips:
1-During th fight try to stay near the front legs, it's the safest spot and has the best elemental hitzones.
2-DO NOT run around, it will make you deal less damage and trigger Alatreon's ranged attacks.
3-You can roll away and through almost every [Lighting] attack Alatreon does, and those are the ones with the most openings.
4-The Fire attack with multiple explosions must be rolled away first and after the center explosion happens roll back in, he is open until the last explosion.
5-When he flies up and does an AOE fire or ice breath attack pointing beneath him : clutch and tenderize if you want.
6-If he is flying just stay under him and attack the rear legs or the tail.
7-In the air he does two or three claw attacks depending wether he is enraged or not. Well, when he is done doing it he goes into a little rest animation in which you can cluth or attack.
8-Always try to stay close to him and don't panic, his strongest attacks give pretty good openings.
9-Beware of physical attacks, those give dragonblight and knock you out easily ( Thats why you bring blight resistance and knockout resistance)
10-I recommended you to do a few practice hunts just to learn the patterns and get used to the flow of the fight. As a last piece of advice, please, do the hunt solo, it will give you higher chances of survival and it lowers the DPS check, plus Alatreon will always stay close to you.

Bro can I ask, I bring an ice weapon to suppress the element easy but whether I can break the horns or not is such a toss up and it’s getting so annoying. How do you save time and break the horns as quick as possible to be on top of him in time before he does Escaton judgement (so I can do full elemental damage throughout the entire fight). Do you FOCUS on wall banging him or is there a better way to go for his horns. It feels like I have no choice but to break the horns every dragon phase in order to beat him...
Also once both horns are broken does that mean I’m screwed and should die to switch weapons or what because at that point, Escaton is basically unavoidable.
When you’re trying to flinch shot him, if possible, try to do it when he’s in the air. Most of his attacks in the air don’t knock you off so even if you don’t have any rocksteady or temporal it’s still quite doable. He doesn’t do thunder attacks when he’s in the air and the only moves that can knock you off from his head are charging attacks and the stomp. He’s guaranteed a knockdown when you at least slap his head once, doing that also stops his movement for a bit so the flinch afterwards is sure to bring him down from the air. Try not to use any flash pods also. It doesn’t work when he’s enraged and you’ll be wasting a knockdown when you flash him when he’s flying
Flinch shotting into a wall on dragon active mode is good if you have trouble breaking the horns tjo
The aerial flinch shot requires the monster to hit the ground in order to be successful. Monsters will ignore walls if you flinch shot them while they are flying - they _have_ to hit the ground. I find that Alatreon is easier to flinch shot successfully while flying compared to when it is on the ground.
@3:00 If you aren't counting the special assignment what exactly is the guide for? You can't do the Event if you havn't done the special assignment. If you have done the special assignment you probably aren't watching a guide, and would have figured out after a few attempts to swap elemental weapons per quest.

I have killed this guy 16 times all in Multiplayer. currently I'm using his LS and the entire Alatreon B+ set to help randoms in SOS flares or in online sessions. Now I will try it for my own
Finally soloed him with lance earlier. Took 26 tries.
Had to use Velkhana Lance with Safi Armor and Ice Attack Decos. (Next week I can upgrade my ice kjarr Lance tho)
Just a few tips
Bring (and I can't stress this enough) Blight Resistance. He inflicts dragonblight so easily which renders your elemental damage useless unless you heal it with nulberries. Just nullify that shit with Blight Resistance
Eat for this red Special bonus. Gives you felyne safeguard. Extremely viable. Then, use Fortify. Since you have 4 lives thanks to the meal, the first two faints are just Making you stronger without losing much.
For his attacks (lance tips mainly)
When he does his electric stuff. You are pretty safe under him. Just wait until he stands on 4 legs again and hit his front legs or head. His lightning won't hit you.
Learn the timings for his melee attacks. You can counter many things. His claw attack is a free counter, his tail swipe comes out two times so don't counter too recklessly. Same for his horn swipes. Those are similar to Diablos.
His big head slam knocks you back but you can go for a full guard and counter with that.
The Ice and Fire AOE Breaths are dangerous but with Guard 5 you should be able to block the whole thing.
When he is in the air, your upward pokes easily hit the hind legs and the tail. Stay under him and poke. Except for the mentioned AOE Attacks he can't do much there.
Use your shield Dash. This is a neat movement option to dodge his lightning rows or breaths and you can perform your leaping thrust out of it (3 small Hits) and Go l right into poking. Make usage of your movement Options. Lance is so much more than a stationary tank.

For his Nova? No. It is actually insanely fast tick damage. So it nullifies guts. His other attacks (except for fire and ice AOE breaths) you can survive with guts

2:20 idk man. I'm still trying to do the first slay quest and it seems like I can do enough ele dmg to him by the first judgement to survive (mind u I'm completely cheesing it with a velox ice kinsect and ele boost glave), but the second time around when he does that fire judgement... its curtains for me... curtains. Started to think "well maybe since I'm using an ice kinsect and a dragon glave I'm just not doing enough ele dmg"... but damn. Was thinking of trying the fenrir rose and changing my kinsect to fire instead.. this way I get the best of both worlds. Maybe even augment it with some health regen and go to town.
I finally beat Aletreon by myself after 3 days! It took a while for me too but I managed to find a way to beat him even if it took 30 minutes. I ate to get Safeguard and tried my best to not die to the nova until after his second horn broke which would mean he went from Fire to ice. Even if i had a ice weapon against him being in his ice form, all i would have to do is do “extra” damage until he killed me with his nova because of me doing no damage, but you can damage him when he goes into his dragon active state. You have a slight chance to not die but even if you do, you have 2 deaths left to kill him and in that time, in the last fire active state you have enough time to kill him or repeat the rotation and die to get him back into his fire active state. This method worked for me but it required a lot of patience and knowledge of his moveset to not die to anything but his nova
I thought it was a bullshift fight at first, but the more I play the more I like it, it's actually tuned pretty well. I've come really close to killing him solo but no cigar yet, will keep trying.
Dual blades main here. Solo'ed second try. I have to agree that's a great weapon for Alatreon, I can't see myself doing it with a less element intensive weapon. Many times I reached the nova threshold seconds before he cast it.
Also, fortfy and Bligh resistance 3 are mandatory for me, cause you know, if I mess up the horns, ate least I can back up stronger

I honestly can’t solo him with my trusty greatsword and had to change to my long sword to solo him. His fight is so amazing though that I don’t care.
Also if you need to clutch claw him to boop him into a wall or out of the sky use Temporal Mantle. This will help you not get flung off due to the little openings Alatreon provides especially while airborne. Be careful though its fast attack animations while you are clutch clawed with Temporal Mantle can deplete it in no time. It's a good use still especially if you need to get good damage in before the nova.
Rocksteady works too. It's risky but if you time it well, it works fine
I thought I would add this to help others (at least for Dual Blade users), Succeded my first kill last night. (solo of coarse)
While I can’t say much about my fire weapon, in terms of Ice I used Beo with affinity II, def 1, Elemental III.
Witha armor I used (fully augmented ) Damascus Helm B, and Namielle for the rest. (used lvl V elemental Charm, Temp And Rock mantles.
With the gems added 3 vitality, 3 tenderizor, fortitude, finished blight resistance, got def to lvl 6, then filled up the rest with expert and charger (just as a bonus), mantles had expert (6 while mantles worn)and weapons finished the elemental dmg.
Ate Elemental L during, but Ate Safeguard first round (though lost it but weakened Ale and broke horn by then thus was able to do fine surviving blast), after breaking both horns and fighting him ice vs ice I sadly died before his 4th explosion thus loosing 2 lives in a row :(. Somehow finished him in his 2nd time of ice (with an ice weapon of coarse at that point).
On a side note.... if solo at least, the fight pauses if you die it looks like, so if you get stuck with the wrong element then die before his explosion, count that as 2 deaths...... :(
I've beaten alatreon solo using Dualblades, longsword, chargeblade and Insect glaive. Im gonna try switch axe, hammer, bow and SnS next. This guy is definitely soloable. You just need to practice a bit. Good luck to all the hunter out there.

DonPetexX actually it was a kyarr water, i used 3 piece safi, head, gloves, and boots beta, and 2 piece namielle gamma, chest and waist. Maxed out my evade window and evade extender plus blight resistance made it really easy to dodge most attacks
• Serena • yes i was, if youre having a hard time weakening the novas I recommend using an ice or fire weapon when he is 3 stars weak to it, it makes getting the dps check extremely easy especially on solo, just make sure you break the horns during dragon active before the nova so he doesnt switch elements
He may have a resistance to air flinch shots when he flys away if its a different animation then normal safe to assume he does
You can actually cheese the escaton judgement by using an insectglaive and giving your kinsect the opposite element. That way you don't need to care about the Horns anymore. So for one phase fight normaly for the other use the kinsect and for dragon use both. Using only your kinsect is pretty goofy and not that exciting to play but it is actually really safe and also very effective. So basicly apply animal abuse for animal abuse.

You can't really solo if you are using non-elemental weapons or weapons who has very little elemental DPS, like GS or Gun Lance. Although it might be possible if you utilize both Safeguard and Insurance from felyne kitchen skill. Make 2 sets of your preferred weapon, a fire set and an ice set. If you can break his horn during his dragon phase then you can lock him on his primary element, and its actually possible and easy to kill him if you can do it. But if you fail to break the horn, it means you are going to die soon anyway, meaning the 2nd escaton judgment, make sure you change your set according to the element at that point, ALSO DON'T forget to put fortify in both sets.

Been at this ever since this nightmare was released, and man this monster is a pain in the ass. It seems he just spams so much that I have no time to really do enough damage. I am using elemental damage, I’ve tried stacking affinity and crit, I’ve tried so many weapons yet I just can’t pull it off. So far I just need four wings for armor set thanks to plunder blade but I’m at my wit’s end right now. Ugh, I think I need to take a break from this just to stay sane. Any more tips on just how to manage this solo will be greatly appreciated. 😰

Upgraded Kjarr Ice weapons(Critical Element). Just make sure to keep breaking the horn so he doesn't switch modes. Other than that, just learn his openings. Oh and wait for the flinch shots(against the wall, in the air) until he's in dragon mode to help break his horns.
I got frustrated in MP so I tried solo and killed him 2nd try. So I would definitely advise ppl to go solo
The thresholds are actually quite easy to reach in solo
I recommend low animation commitment weapons like IG and DB they pretty good matchup
Longsword utterly gimps most of his dangerous attacks. You just have to build for crit element, or you won't do enough DPS.
I soloed him 8 times with cb, solo is much easier!
The general lesson is this he is solo able but you need to git good so use a weapon you know and use an elemental version
Bitch flies too much but is still possible to solo it
I even managed to solo him yesterday with insect glaive
You can survive the Nova with jerky and 4 health boosters you have to space the jerky out
Finally youtuber who actually says alatreon is not easy
Alatreons light bow gun can use all elements, so you will always be effective against him, while having almost enough ammo to kill him, just farm it using plunderblade.
If your problem is the nova, that means that it is not the only problem you have. You might not be aggressive enough. Soloable even with only one element. I would have been disappointed if I had it easier before finishing what is supposed to be endgame content. If anything, they should have walled this behind MR 100 at least to gate off some newer folks.
You don't need the right element, just enough element and breaking the horns during the correct time. Using the right element just helps making it easier. The head is easy to partbreak, with a lot of alatreon's aoe casting moves locking him in place with his head down. In general you need to evade INTO him, not away. If you have the right resistances, you can stand in some of his AOEs and tank the damage while hitting him with Health Augment, or clutch into his face when he is doing downward breaths. You are punished if you clutch in too late with an air dash because you hesitated.
This is a good case of the "competent enemy vs incompetent ally" quote. It's not artificial difficulty, since it rewards skillful aggressive play, banding together with hunters to plan, and building to a monster correctly- which are core gameplay and fits the lore of the monster being an elemental god of sorts.
If you play randos or use SOS and expect to be carried, then prepare to be judged- Escaton style.
Not sure if you covered it in the video, but how do you stop him from switching after the phases where you've already broken his horns? That's been my main reason for dying
Fun fact GL has xxl element modify on the slams so it rally good at elementals also lvl 6 shelling has an average of 20 fire element damage Varies on the shelling type
Beat this solo, used all 4 lives (insurance and safeguard). I did not break the horns. I used velkana ds with 5 safi set.
Just tender the front legs and focus on that.

I play regular Lance and the struggle has never been more real. I lack a lot of the key decos (Guard Up, Protective Polish, etc.) and after about 8 hours of attempts over the last two days, solo and in groups, including one where I broke both horns solo but somehow didn’t do enough element damage for the weakening, I just deleted the game lol
I’m trying to find the motivation to try some more but I REALLY don’t wanna deco grind anymore than I already have these last two years
Guard up is mandatory. P polish not really. I used the event Quest where you farm great whetfish scales. It is basically Speed sharpening on steroids.
For Alatreon
If you have no idea what you're doing, and you aren't super good against him yet, bring a support build
Because good Lord, he becomes 10x easier when you have a healbot in the background with technically infinite heals with the Tigrex meal secret set bonus
it is such a godsend
For me it was the exact oposing. Managed to solo it no problem but had several problems on multi. People tend to come unprepared for the fight, bringing blast weapons, and sometimes not even buffs and heals. Not to mention that I always had a guy managing to cart in the first 30 secs of the fight or wasting 2-3 carts all the time.
At first having struggled and failing probably close to 10 times in a row and now having countless back to back flawless runs done, here's what I can give to you all:
BLIGHT RESISTANCE 3 AND HEALTH AUGMENT MAKE THE FIGHT EXTREMELY EASY
Applies for both solo and mp (I play mostly mp)
Also make sure to flinch shot him every time he's yellow, knockdowns make breaking horns a cakewalk. Elemental trips you should achieve by just playing normally (best elemental HZs are his front legs though so focus those if you are struggling to meet the threshold)
Literally any weapon works great (HBG is iffy), but if you are playing IG stick to ground glaive (you can mount him once first, after that his threshold just gets too high so it's not worth it going for any more mounts)
Oh yeah and when he starts channeling Escaton you get literally 5 seconds of free dps before the need to use a jerky so dont just back off and afk, just make sure you have time to gobble that bad boi up
One more thing, DO NOT USE DRAGON ELEMENT IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER ELEMENT AVAILABLE! His Dragon HZ values are absolute garbage so although the game claims he's 2* weak to it it's the Nergi Thunder case all over again, so not worth. If you have the choice and can consistently break the horns, you should always just match the starting element's weakness. I have personally just run Safi's Water GS (we always go the fire start quest since my friends both run Ice) and we can consistently meet the threshold in about 3-4 minutes so don't sweat that part
But yeah, I used to cart a lot but after the health augment + blight res set up I think I have died twice total (I play GS, and started learning it with Alatreon so it really makes the quest exponentially easier)

My main advice as I just killed it is to have Crit element.and Affinity Boosters, as well as support to help heal.
I'm at the point where I can solo him with relative ease and, in my personal experience, the fight is made significantly harder if you don't bring his specific starting weakness. I haven't been able to beat him even a single time while bringing dragon element solo while I've been able to do it consistently bringing his weakness. If you're not confident in breaking the horns, you can still try dragon, I'm not saying it's impossible, it's just not advisable. Also, remember that the horns only reset his element shifts, they don't disable his final shift entirely. After you reset his cycle twice, it's either you kill him before he kills you or he shifts to counter you and it's game over.
Basically the real way hitzones in this game work means if Ala is in Ice, you do basically 0 Dragon Damage. If he's in Dragon form Ice only does slightly less damage then Dragon. So Dragon is a massive trap that you should never use.
It's not Game over then. He went to ice mode after his 3rd Nova and I killed him in the following dragon mode. Just accept your demise at the following nova tho. But push hard and he might die before that
I m not sure but I think there is also a bug that sometimes alatreon attacks the same person without stop completely ignores other team mates attack after attack
Trying to do this quest solo with a great sword is impossible because you cannot hit the elemental check with a greatsword in solo

I dont have an issue with his moves. I dont have the dps check. I dont hate breaking horns. But I've passed 3 checks, broke both horns, and he isn't half way dead. Why the fuck is he not dying. I dodge his moves, hit the weak points, and sure I die a bit, but why in the hell is he not dead after all that. I've been trying for a week straight and can't beat him. Not solo, or duo, or a full squad has helped. I dont know what to do at this point. I actually hate him now. I've tried more damage, more comfort, different weapons, and everytime I can pass the checks and break horns but his 50k health pool keeps fucking me over.
My build consists of 1 Kulve Kjarr Crit element weapon, 3 Teostra armor sets for Master's Touch and 2 Namielle armor sets for Elemental Acceleration. Seems to be decent enough.
I suggest using either Water element or Dragon element weapon because those two at worst 1 star damage on Alatreon.
My only gripe about this fight is I run out of ammo and crafting mats. It should have a respawning fire and snow herbs for gunners.
Actually got quite lucky and did it twice with groups first hour. Dedicated healers in both if I remember. Took a few hours to solo. Went for my Masters Touch Namiel elemental build with a Kjar Thunder element LS. Maxed out elemental resistances with eating except water. First two dps check got nearly 100% of the time, 3rd and 4th seemed more troublesome. Now just need 2 damn jems to drop !

bring a level of wide range for preemptive potion chugging at full health during nova.
i think dragon element greatsword is good for horn breaking but everyone else needs to have ice/fire.
you can farm parts for one of his unupgraded weapons by going solo or 2player and bring a palico with plunder blade, aim for horn break and you should get enough materials even if you fail to kill.
I tried a few times solo with SnS. Was able to survive the nova but couldn't consistently break the horns. I will try dragon element now that you suggested it.
Alright, cleared my head after beating him, these are the problems I got with the fight, the rocks are too small and his positioning makes it very annoying to slam him on the wall. Sometimes if you get a group that does too much damage, he enrages ALL the time which gives you 10 seconds max to clutch and throw him down which again, makes things annoying, not difficult. Other than that, I think the fight is fine, the attacks after a couple of tries are not THAT hard although you will still probably get hit by some here and there. If they fix the whole "Slam him in the rocks the size of a pebble to break his horns and if he enrages you are screwed" I think its gonna be amazing.

I have yet to hit the elemental triger once. I wont say ive mastered the rest of the hunt but the escaton judgement is definitely the part thats blocking me. Im using the legiana maxed out swaxe with level 6 ice attack 750 ice in total. My buddy is using ebony odogaron dbs maxes out with extra dragon damage. Something that i just thought about, does the swaxe not deal elemental damage when in axe mode?

Your partner should go ice dbs. I’m duoing with a GS main and with ice dbs we hit the elemental threshold pretty consistently. Just make sure you apply buffs and you be aggressive
Yeah, dragon is pretty bad
As soccutd77 said, you should both go for ice. Also quick tip regarding SA during amped sword mode: if your partner has flinch free and you re both attacking Alatreon, try staying close to him. You get an additional phial explosion when you hit a team mate, a palico or some of the small monsters. Your damage will be much higher, especially in a 4 man hunt.
Edit: The Swagaxe you mentioned has an elemental phial. It deals extra elemental damage with sword mode,so you should be good to go. If both of you use ice and get the special knockdown in the first minutes of the fight, you can focus on his head after that and break one of his horns during Dragon mode. He ll use his weakened nova (use Astera jerkys and/or health boosters to survive it). After that he ll be in fire mode again and you can repeat that process. I hope this helps 👍
@@soccutd77 thanks for the tip with using all ice. We are hitting the check pretty often now and it no longer feels impossible. Something small and stupid we also did was change our cats weapons to ice. One of them actually managed to smack him out of the sky.
I beat him solo with the blaze lbg. It hold flame and ice ammo, makes the fight so much easier as long as you dodge his other moves.
True comments from ruri solo you can go enough damage and only die to the nova and win! Pack the cat with vigorwasp for an extra revive I know it’s cheesy but my only solo is with 2 carts. But in multiplayer I cannot register a kill it’s very very hard dps threshold and if you fail it’s a full wipe of 3 carts
what about status ailment weapons? i really love poison for example, and so far i have been riding pretty good with it (sns and lance), does the fight work with poison, or should i craft a "xyz" element weapon?
So....how much Elemental Damage do you need to deal with that Escaton AOE discharge? I am a long ways away from being able to hunt Alatreon, but I want to have a big idea what to do as a Bow user, like how much elemental I need for my bow to be effective. So far I was able to bump up My Dragon elemental bow over 500. Need to work on maximizing it to the Shara line. That and I intend to make a Velkhana bow for its ice element. Any hard numbers and armor suggestions would help me out greatly.
I don't really know how elemental numbers vary between weapons but I used Velkhana Lance with 4 Ice Attack which ended up at around 660 Ice (full Safi Armor). That was enough to hit clear the DPS check pretty constantly

My only issue is that when I get passed the thresholds and break his horns he still changes to ice
Just take opposite element and break horns before he changes to the element you have equipped.
